NO average joe is going to spend 55 or 60k on a midsized truck, and neither should you!!
$50k is the going rate for a loaded mid size. Tim originally was building the most expensive Off Road trim Tacoma. There is a dealer near me that is asking $44k for a brand new 2023 Off Road trim Tacoma
The sad part is a lot of average joes will. And leverage themselves to the hilt with $1500 car payments. The USA consumers are the kings of debt and trying to look rich,
I'm with you on this one. Just a crazy price for a compact truck.
For Tim it's a tax write off purchase. Either he pays the money to uncle Sam for nothing in return to his business. Or he buys the 50k truck, uses it to save on taxes and then gets to promote it on the channel to make money.
Agree. I bought loaded 23 Power Wagon for 70k. I'm going AT4 1500 in the 60+ range. Or AT4 Canyon for less
The only thing stupider than a $55,000 Tacoma is a $65,000 Tacoma.
You don't want to look at these cost us Canadians then 🤢 we only get 8 versions and no selections like the USA has. And the shortbox trd offroad premium we cant get this in a long box and it costs about $61,500 no extras and before adding 15% tax after tax it's over $70,000. I can get a new new trundra at that price.
We as consumers need to vote with our wallet and not buy these absurdly overpriced products
Don’t blame Toyota. Blame the EPA and cafe standards. Blame the leftist radicals there for forcing low quality turbo 4 cylinders that won’t last 125,000 miles on us.
It's the market, with inflation, they just sell. Jeep has had issues with their vehicles priced too high, but in general if it's good people are going to pay the higher prices.
YOu need to understand everything is up, due to evil government wanting less car ownership and printing money. It is corruption and evil
@@glow4417 No. No I won't. You might, but a lot of us will not. It is not worth the money.
@glow4417 No you can't blame the market or inflation for this one. It's the TRD off road which is a mid level and basic engine option, not even the TRD pro for low 50's is crazy when you can get the highest trim chevy colorado zr2 for 52k and ford ranger raptor for 55k which is the highest trim for ford mid size. This just proves that toyota screwing there own fan base.
Toyota jumped the 🦈 for this rollout for the package/pricing-release. Add this to the dealership markups with fluff packages and it’s a loss for the customer especially the working class being priced out of a decent Offroad truck
Bought a new Tacoma TRD Off Road w/manual trans in 2022 for $38,500 out the door. Use it mainly for camping & exploring while pulling a small teardrop trailer. No problems. Love the truck & the ride. Live in the Tampa, FL area & camp in the Blue Ridge & Smoky Mountain areas several times a year. Still use my 2004 Chevy Colorado 4x4 for my "dirty" work.
I bought a frontier this year after trading in the 2012 frontier I had for 11 years. You can’t beat it with a stick. But I know they don’t rake in the views. Powerful drivetrain, 20 mpg, high value. So far STILL so good!
Shopped for eggs lately?
I had the 2017 frontier before I got a 23 tacoma this year. I did some sketchy stuff offroad in it and it never got stuck. Had 265/75r mud terrains on it. Great truck. I got the 23 tacoma to get the v6 before it was gone.
@@270eman can’t go wrong with that. I was surprised how different/refined this new frontier is compared to the old one that I loved. I purchased without a test drive. I’m sure we’ll have to bite the bullet someday and take the turbo when it’s the only option. Some people are uncomfortable with the direct injection. But I believe Toyota has had that in the tacos for a while.
Yeah if this tacoma gets wrecked I would probably get the new frontier. Toyota uses the D4S system in practically all of their vehicles now. Direct and port injection. Its been around awhile now. @@jbooh88
If we all stick together and don't buy the overpriced tacomas, something is gonna have to happen. I have a 2016 trd sport, and I'm not gonna pay those crazy prices
That sounds good, Tim! I agree with you on the ridiculous prices. We'll be here when you get it. I'll watch most of your videos anyways. 👍
The first problem is consumers are buying these trucks. Instead they should leave them sitting on dealers lots, dealers and manufacturers would be forced to eventually lower the prices to something reasonable.
Simple concept right? But nope the weirdos will make Toyota very happy…smfh
Like those video games idiot who say "it's my money, I can buy whatever I want with it, it doesn't affect anybody" or "don't tell me what to do with my money" except whales affect everyone else.
I am so glad you are going with your gut. The only person you need to compete with is yourself. I am looking forward to the new rig when you get it. Your perspective will be fun, interesting, and educational.
Your insight and level headedness is why i watch ,i dont care about who’s got what and when
BRAVO Tim!!! Incredible way to use the channel viewers to show that you DO LISTEN to your viewers!!!
Excellent Desicion.
You are stuck with me as a viewer for many, many more years (Sorry the crazy cat heard is staying)
Ok Tim I think your reasoning makes sense, and good choice. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming reviews on your new upcoming purchase. Rock on!🤘
I think that’s smart - set yourself apart from the competition. Looking forward to the new vehicle! Good luck to you and the channel!
I think it is a smart move. I am waiting to get what I want too, hybrid off road long bed and mid trim. I’ll wait as long as I need to get the one I want… and hopefully interest rates will tick down during the waiting process while I continue to build a larger down payment. Good luck on the trail hunter!
Yes rates will continue to go down
Hey, question for you: Which company do you think will come out with the truck options you mention first? I think those are great things to look for in a vehicle!
on the 2022 2023 tacoma was selling for 55K. I walked away, Got a Subaru
Kinda weird to spend more money because you’re spending too much money.😂 That’s exactly what Toyota wants people to do, that’s why they have those packages set up the way they are, to “encourage” more upgrades.
100%, all the manufacturers are doing it. The low and even mid level trims to an extent are already way overpriced, they make it seem "worth it" to just go up one or two trim levels since you're spending so much damn money anyway.
The Christmas spirit is not strong with these people 😂
Ranger Time. Nice ring to it.
Now this is great! I like where you are going and it makes so much sense. I’m very interested in the hybrid and limited because of costs to available options ratio.
I'd wouldn't spend $55K + for a midsize truck, you can get a nice full size for that kind of money.
I think most of us watch you and TFL. Nice to have different POV.
Back in May, one of my sons picked up a red '24 Tacoma TRD 4x4 with all the bells and whistles from a dealership here in SoCal for $40k. He put down $20k and financed the balance through Toyota financial @ 5.55% and has $500 payments. He's happy.
My personal issue was that when you and TFL bought the Tundra, they were virtually the same, except for the colour. Plus, many liked the electrified option better. The fact that you and TFL were about the same truck again somehow wasn’t fitting me as a viewer. It was like watching the same truck over and over again only to see similar results and opinions.
Proud of you Tim, and I think you are heading in a much better direction by getting the Trailhunter! Maybe better for the business as I believe not many reviewers will look at the trailhunter.
I watch your channel not because you may be first or last, but to see what your point of view is. Your channel brings value because (you) look at vehicles you test drive a little differently than the other channels. I am enjoying your videos about the Tacoma because this may be my next truck. Not going to stop watching, I will be in the order bank with you next year.
I realize it's a few years now but in 2019 I purchased an off lease 2017 Colorado LT V6 4x4 crew cab long bed with the tech package with 17,000 miles for $26975. There wasn't a scratch or mark on this vehicle and was sold by an off lease company with a lifetime powertrain warranty. I could have bought 2 of these with money left over for gas for the price of that Tacoma.
But you may need a transmission at 80k miles you typically won’t need on a Tacoma- but I agree, the Tacomas (and all vehicles for that matter) are becoming outrageously priced.
@@lukeanderson8762 Then it's a good thing that Novak Motors, the dealer I bought it from gave me a lifetime powertrain warranty. If it goes out at 80,000 they can replace it. Just wondering what happens if the trans or the turbo goes out at 80k miles on that new $50k+Toyota?
Really annoying the way Toyota structured the Tacoma and options
I love this decision. Just keep providing updates on the truck market and I’ll keep coming back.
I personally want to wait for the hybrid too but totaled my 21 Off Road. So here we are. Getting an SR5 and hoping to trade up in a year or two from now
Next year break the cycle by saving huge $$ on a zero mile 2023 that we all refused to buy in 2024
Watched the powerboost and have a cabin so really thinking of that for emergency backup. We're only here once so do what feels right for you. Love your videos and learning all things trucks.
I like hearing your thought process on this stuff. Very relatable. I’ve been considering everything from a Tacoma to a Bronco or a Maverick to replace my 1995 Ranger. Would love a compact hybrid with 4wD and some decent off road capabilities and a nice sound system!😊
In the same boat but with an 06 Ranger and growing family
Good call. Wait and get the one you want and the most bad-ass one they make. I can’t wait to watch those videos. You really helped me decide on my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali with the 3.0 diesel. I absolutely love the truck and especially that diesel. Keep up the great work!
I think it's a great decision, no reason to just be one of the many with the same truck, get something more purpose built for your needs. Looking forward to your content on this!
slow and steady wins the race. I think your doing the right thing. Being different is better than being 1st and 2nd and 3rd of the same model as everyone else. In the long run, you will stand out.
This is why I follow your channel closely, and not those other 2 you mentioned. You're so much more realistic in your approach
Something to consider though is that this is the hot new truck and everyone wants content on it. You do a really good job sharing the ownership experience and that’s what a lot of us are waiting on when it comes to your channel. Just a thought!
This is why I love your channel Tim. You have a real common sense approach which makes you relatable to your audience. TFL and TRDJon don’t give a crap about relating to any of us. As far as I know you will always have a loyal audience keep doing what you’re doing cheers and Merry Christmas
Hi Tim-
I agree with you on the price points on these pickups.
Yes, I will continue to watch your channel and keep up the nice work.
What I noticed about your channel is the tundra videos were popular. Lots of people talked about how much they hated the tundra yet on CZcams the views seems to follow it
The Tundra was a huge hit. Makes me lean more Tacoma over Colorado and Ranger based on past history of views.
Wait for the market to tank, and then buy a real truck (translation: full sized).
$55K is more than i paid for my first house!
No doubt the trailhunter looks badass. For your channel it would probably get lots of views and lots of interest. For someone like myself I usually buy the lowest trim with the options I need and a few I want. You are right… not as big a deal being first imho. A lot of people like me will look at more than one video on the same truck. Keep up the good work.
I’ve always liked your videos because you get straight to the point. The guys over at TFL can make a 15 minute video into an hour with all the yapping they do. Lol
Inflation coming down just means prices aren't rising as fast, not that prices are coming down.
I agree 60k for a midsized pickup is stupidty
I did the same thing. I changed my mind at the last minute. Too stinking high for what you get. Buying to impress someone is not for me. I want the best bang for my buck.
Good move on the wait Tim. I am waiting to get the feed back on the hybrid option after it rolls out. I am leaning in that direction myself for my new purchase and will be patient before I jump into spending a premium.
You’ll be lucky if you can find a trailhunter for 60k I believe the TRD Trail Hunter is the top of the line for Tacoma so it will be priced sky high. And you can bet that there will be additional dealer markups in the thousands. All for a truck that probably won’t even be here until next summer!
Many years ago, when people would pull up with a cool new car or truck everybody thought that was great. Today, when someone pulls up with an overpriced, oversized, cellphone on wheels, people shake their head and say, what a fool, enslaving themselves to the evil car companies.
I think that might be a case of rose colored glasses.
Very smart move! Makes me excited for your reviews!!
Spot on Tim. I would welcome you to get the TrailHunter over the TRD. I want to know more about that truck and how it's used. I also remember watching a Tundra video from you, which got me to purchase one. I went Platinum Hybrid and love it. I also looked at the Limited you had and was sad to see the features you wanted were on the trim level above. Great video and we will be here!
i agree with you im waiting for the hybrid to see about the price and power
You will be lucky if that TrailHunter is under $65K
Agreed. It’s not gonna be 60k like he’s assuming. Hybrid is gonna add 3k itself.
Coming from someone who loves to buy what I want, if you've got the money more power to you. It is a nice truck after all.
I am with you. I had a Chevy Avalanche 2003 for 20 years. Long story short wife borrowed it and it was stolen at Wal-Mart here in Albuquerque. Love that vehicle. So purchased her a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid and got her 2010 Tahoe. She loved the mpg on that but has been in the market for getting a truck. But man was excited about potentially getting the new Tachoma and maybe the Hyrbrid version but wow 55K for a midsize, why not get a full-size Silverado 2023 or 2024. I just can find myself spending that kind of money and I can afford it but why not get a 1/4 truck from GM or even look at Ford Hybrid. Will see. I am like you, why am I in a hurry, my Tahoe is paid for and not many miles. Will wait to see what is out next year and get what I really want, not just first to buy. This reminds me of me years ago having to buy a new upgraded iPhone when the one I have will do just fine, and be paid for.
Was thinking about a 2023 or 24 frontier, because at least its a NA v6 and I can opt out of the "safety" bs on the lowest trim
I bought a 23 Pro 4x. Love it
@@Blue-moon12 I'm looking at a Titan Pro4x but waiting for the Tacoma cost me the 0% APR so F to Toyota.
If you play it right, you may be one of the first with the Trail Hunter, and one of the first with the hybrid powertrain. I expect you'll do just fine with this strategy.
Drove them last week at the dealer training event. They visually look great and work well, but the price point is way to high.
Same. I thought it was great until I saw the prices.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I am happy to see that ARB collaborated with Toyota and the Trail Hunter is a home run for sure. However, that rig all tricked out has gotta be over 60k with a roof top tent, awnings, etc. Now your in Bronco Sasquatch territory. 😳
@@sanddrifterjb I’m sure it will be, but with the loaded TRD Off Road at $55k already, I’d rather get the Trail Hunter IF I have to spend that much anyway.
@@Pickuptrucktalk we speak the same language! Keep up the solid work. You guys crush it. ✌
@@Pickuptrucktalkthis pickup craze is so stupid, hopefully the pendulum will swing back to normal soon…. These trucks are stupid expensive
I’m in the same boat. I’ve been curious about the trail hunter this whole time but I honestly think I’m going to end up getting priced out I was originally hoping the trail hunter would be around 55 to 58 but now seeing the fully loaded off-road I know it’s probably going to end up being 65+
i’m on the wait list for my 2024 trail hunter and i also picked up my new 1794 ted last month,so excited
I think you're doing the right thing. Toyota is coming out with a lot of models in the middle of the summer❤
I'm in the same boat. I have been recently looking at 2019 and 2020 Tacoma's, eventually the new style grew on me. I started to really look and check local dealers & eventually I stopped and thought why in the heck am I about to spend this on a midsize truck. It's insane.
Always go with your gut!!!! I'm waiting for a loaded Black with red accents hybrid sport, more low end torque, bad ass street machine! 💀💀
I agree with going hybrid especially Trail Hunter. The hybrid is available on the Sport and Off Road models in addition to the Limited
Adding the Hybrid to the Limited, Sport, and Off Road will probably be pricey.$$$
@@Shakerhood69 I am guessing $6k
I agree with your way of thinking, on the price and the race to be first.
$9,000 to $10,000 for the TRD off road premium package is insane! I think I would go with the base Tacoma off-road package maybe with heated seats at the 14" screen.
I really respect your point of view. I hope you get the trailhunter too!
F150 has been amazing to me.3.5 ecoboost 2019 best truck ive ever had.also have friends who had theirtrucks go 400k miles stock turbos
It seems like vehicles are just getting too expensive for the average Joe. And 55 grand for a 4 cylinder is crazy.
I really want the Trailhunter, but when they released the prices for the regular IForce 4cyl, I have been getting second thoughts. I'm waiting to see what they do. Pretty disappointed with the pricing so far, and the fuel economy.
That TRD off road is a wealth killer for that matter any new vehicle.
If overall long term reliability is your priority Toyota tends to bring it compared to all others! They are not perfect but are unquestionably one of the most perfect in that regard 😉
I’m doing the same Tim…Trail hunter is the version I want. Two caveats: I will not pay >$65K stock MSRP (withouts accessories), will not pay dealer mark-up. Also, I have the luxury of waiting till the end of 2024 to allow most bugs to be flushed🤞
SOOO glad I bought my 2023 Tacoma SR Access Cab 4x4 4 cylinder a month ago! I knew all about the 2024 prior to my purchase and granted it is better in some ways, but worse in others. The lack of doors to access the cargo area behind the seats in the Xtra Cab is a deal breaker. And the $3500 bump in price is not desirable either. The 2023 with the 4 cylinder is not fast or luxurious, but it does truck stuff super well and has all most of us need. No you won't want to tow a 7,000 pound trailer with it, but you won't want to do that with any version of the 2024 either. And $32,400 for a truck that should go 1,000,000 miles with proper maintenance was a no brainer. Get'em while you still can!
@Pickup Truck plus SUV Talk: Tim, I think you made the right call on this. We are going to watch your videos either way.
Have you ever done a long term review of the wife's Trailblazer?
You know, we haven’t done an updated video on it. I’ll add it to the list.
Enjoyed your take on this!
When a leaf springed, 2wd, 2 door, back to basics PreRunner starts at $40k, I think the TrailHunter will wind up costing considerably more than you want to spend.
Good idea Tim to wait for what you really want! And I’ll watch the vids of the Trail Hunter for sure if you get to pick it up 😎
You are making the right choice. No one will be drooling over dozens of TRD Offroad videos for long. The Trailhunter is what I would buy had I not purchased a 23 Tundra 1794 Hybrid TRD Offroad. I could have held out for the TRD Pro but it was too expensive with the markups and the 1794 is more lux. Also, once I drove the hybrid Tundra I actually wanted the truck even more.
Tim I quit watching everything and anything TFL puts out after they went after Automotive Inquiries over his use of a phrase they thought they owed. I say to you do what you want and do not worry about TFL, and what they our or our not doing. You put out great content. Carry on!!!!
All vehicle prices have been growing way beyond inflation. People seem to think they "deserve" such things and pay for it, so the msg's sell you what you are willing to pay for. Smart buy is to get something 3-4 years old off lease and keep it for 10+ years, but that's not what most people do.
The price for the new Tacoma is just too expensive
Breaking off on to your own trail in the snow requires more energy and focus and patience. But the adventures, in my opinion, are worth it.
Best wishes to all in 2024 and pray for peace and those who have so little. Spend less time and money on things and more on helping others. It's a richer life there.
God bless and Merry Christmas everyone and happy holidays
Good call. If you’re paying that much money you might as well get the top dog truck and newest and greatest powertrain! We will be glued once you have the trailhunter!
You don’t have to be first for me to watch your videos. I’m always looking for new content from you. BTW I agree with you and everyone else that prices are insane, unfortunately it’s always going to be ‘what the market will bear’. You mentioned hunting more next year and moving to crossbows, that’s another item that’s been priced way higher than it should be, wait until you shop for them!
Oh I have shopped. They are pretty damn expensive. I’m thinking of just picking one up at Walmart for as much as I’ll use it.
That a boy! Good choice. 🙌🏻. This will get a lot of attention and i think more of what people want to know all about the hybrid drivetrain.
Before the 4cyl Turbo came out I bought a 2023 trdSport 4×4 4dr SB with 6cyl. Love it. It was 40,000. I looked today 2/12/24 at local dealer & there is a SR for 46,000.00+ MSRP. That's insane. I'm glad I jumped quick before the 4 Gen happened last August.. if going to be paying 50,000 for a truck it's going to be a full size & probably not Toyota.... Wait it out a year. MSRP might drop & if financing the interest rate may drop as well - esp when Toyota losses sales & lots fill up JUST like what's happening with the Tundra
That trim will be around $65k.
I like the direction. A Trail Hunter load out for hunting would be unique. I'm very interested in the future of hybrid technology in the mid-size truck space. I've been a Tacoma owner for 30 years...I've had two of them....I keep them a long time. I'm cross shopping the Tacoma with the Ranger and Colorado. I don't need 4x4, but do need to tow. The Colorado LT is looking like a lot of truck for the money at this point.
I agree with you, Tim. I can certainly afford to buy the fully loaded t. R. D sport that I want. However, I can spend 6000 less dollars. Go with the nissan which is a proven truck and know that I'll be just as happy. Toyota is pricing themselves out of the game.
I bought a 200k odometer tacoma. It is in perfect condition with new shocks and tires
Yea Tim, you are thinking like I have been. Wait. I've got a low milage 87K '09 Tacoma entry level 4 cyl truck. 2nd. owner. I've owned a lot of trucks over the last 45 years plus years; mostly full size. This Taco is the 2nd midsize truck I bought in 2013. Been a great truck!
I like what Toyota is doing with their midsize better than the other brands at this point. That Trailhunter might be just the ticket, especially w/ that new powertrain.
I like your channel since you usually give an alternative perspective that is worth listening to.
Back in 2014 my mother bought the best deal for any vehicle you can get and I wish they still sold them today. The 2014 Dodge journey 4 cylinder suv which is roomy and nice looking for only 24,000 dollars. They are also not little bitty vehicles either but have a good size to them and they are reliable
You're making a good decision. I want the trailhunter from the beginning and so far if what I've seen is coming with everything I want with msrp at 54,999 you can't go wrong. Sometimes I think I should keep my tundra but I like the tacoma more again cause it's more nimble offroading. Anyways can't for us to get them.
If you want the Trail Hunter then go for it. But be prepared for a very high price. Specially if you want it loaded as you seem to want for the channel. You will be able to go overloading with a roof top tent. I personally think for that kind of money you would probably be better off with a Land Cruiser. Not the First edition but the base version with a few options. It will have more interior room specially in the back seat. Easier to park and garage (when the wife allows) and easier to handle day to day. Just give careful consideration to how much you actually use the bed when it's the only thing that will carry that load. In my experience an SUV was way more useful and convenient specially with your family.
I bought a 22 Frontier s with 8500 miles on it certified for 27k With less than 10k you can make it a perfect off roader. Don’t need leather to hunt.
I think I'm going to get the 2024 4runner instead. I was super excited for a new off road taco though.
2025 4Runner gets announced April/May of this year
@@mrluis9456 If i get a 4Runner, it would be the v6 model, before they switch to the turbo 4-cylinder. I may wait until they announce the new one. The buzz around it should stall sales of the 2024,, making it easier for me to get a deal.
RTL (mid trim) Honda Ridgeline = $42,000. Best mid-size truck on the market (unless you tow more than 5k lb, or ACTUALLY rockcrawl)...
I agree the TRD Offroad is way too expensive. The Trailer hunter does interest me, but also way too expensive.
I agree with you. There are a lot of choices out there and the mid-size truck all look the same to me. Need an off road truck that is different from the others and can give me what I'm looking for off road.
Im gonna keep watching because I like your reviews.
These prices are ridiculous 🙄
