- Fab Morvan, one-half of the immensely popular duo Milli Vanilli, sat down with DJ Vlad in this exclusive interview where he discusses the rise and fall of the former super group. Fab discusses refusing to Lip Sync the second album after being forced to do so on their debut album and the backlash that came as a result. He also talks about Milli Vanilli winning the Grammy for best new artist and later giving it back amid the infamous lip-syncing controversy. Watch above.

if I was offered a million dollars to lipsynk I would definitely say YES!
Would you say yes if it would lead you to be ridiculed and embarassed on a massive scale for years? And on a smaller scale for the rest of your life?

Because he knows damn well he didn't sing those songs
For all the grief and pain he suffered, I'm glad to see came through and is living his life. He seems like a lovely, humble guy and it's a shame what happened to Rob.
I couldn't agree more!
Enjoying this interview. Fab has a good personality and is a likeable guy.
DB800187 absolutely. Dude is so nice. I'd wish he'd become famous again. He deserves it.
I 100% agree. He's so nice and adorable. It's not his fault the record industry stuck them with that. Once they did "girl you know its true" their fate was sealed...
Fuuny that Vlad mentioned that . I remember hearing Rob speak with that thick accent. And thinking wtf
If i was an agent i would sign him to go on a speaking tour. Very interesting to talk about your dreams and how money and greed can be part of it. It is like they got a half dream of success.
@DB800187 I totally agree!
rob was the singer......... visually

Bruce P omm I dtfo when he said that

Bruce P yeah that comment was icey
There are a lot of singers who sing perfect English, but have a huge accent
That's what I am thinking. Vlad tried! Lol.
but they could still speak perfect English with that accent, they could not you could tell, thats the difference.
your voice changes when you sing, it actually does
Wat is perfect English? I mean how did American English change so dramatically from its origins in England
Fab is French, lived in the US but now lives in The Netherlands for many years already. Remember that especially in a country like The Netherlands, despite its size, they speak at least two more languages than an average American.
On John (the original singer): he’s German. So go figure..
The crazy thing about all of this is that the Milli Vanilli album is a classic.
foxxxmoney It is, especially if you listen to the original version of the album, All Or Nothing, which was how Germany and the rest of Europe had it. It experimented more with Europop and hip-hop sounds and in that context, the fact that Rob & Fab aren't the singers don't seem to matter as much. It's a timeless piece of 1980's urban kitsch to me to this day. It just shows how incredible of a producer Frank Farian was.
do you have a link?
foxxxmoney The album is available on ITunes
Thanks
Love this record
It's great that he can look back and laugh at it all now. I feel now might be time to make a movie about it.
HE can, but the other guy didn't make it out alive. Sad.
Good Afternoon. Fab has meeting with several screenwriters to have their story told on screen. Fab wants to make sure that the story is accurante
The Biopic came out last December in Germany

I don’t know if they will put the movie out in the US though
But you can find the movie on the internet

with all this damn auto-tune no one sings now! they need to give him his award back!!!
What about the ol’ robot voice...!?
They use their own voice not others now. Idiot
DAt Dude Dude dat comment is so so true!
Exactly. They alter their voices and use different vocals completely (eh em JLo) He actually has a palatable voice too. Sad
BIG difference between having ur vocals 'autotuned' & not being the actual singers from the start!
This nigga and his partner are the real MVP's. made millions without having to sing a note hahaha incredible.
Word just had to lip synch and dance LOL
@@derrickwright5728 he dead bone, he put a bullet in his head. RIP brotha
millions ? 🤨
they didn't make millions...they made good money for their tour, and performance, but they got nothing for their image being used, nor for the music they didn't sing on. they had one and a half solid years of touring income and appearance income, and then it was all gone.
FWIW, I saw him speak in person back in the late 90s. His story hasn't changed since then. He must be telling the truth. I feel bad for him, he seems like a good guy.
Vlad can we get more interviews like this, and less from these rappers that are primarily known for Viral videos and not their music?

Nah their ego did them because they stopped listening to him , and they started to think they actually could do it.

Buot to look it up
@sha broussard did you not watch the video??? Ofc they signed the contract. They just didnt read it first. Wao you are an idiot.
YES, but at the time, they had extremely heavy accents and they hadn't trained their voices at all, so yes they were kinda "obliged" to lipsync
@sha broussard they knew later yes. And kept performing bc they were broke and dcouldnt pay the money back that they were given. Simple.
@sha broussard show me that video
The way this man found peace with the situation is saintly. He is able to see objectively the good all that happened and the plan Frank had. To relive this all must be like the Grim Reaper.

The talent these two put to the music was awesome, they earned the grammy.
Absolutely. If anything, they were great performers. Performers win grammy's too. 💯
Another great interview!
It's really messed up how everything happened 😥
The music industry raped young artist a lot back then. Still goes on today but back then it was an everyday practice.

Whats funny is that everyone is lip singing at their concerts. Britney, JLo, etc....
Cali King lip “syncing”
To music they actually sung in the studios these guys didnt sing the songs at all
Hey Vlad...FOH!!! no way you was listening to this and was like "hey there English is alil off" you was dancing str8 to the song
Ace * the whole, “I saw it before anyone else” after the fact bullshit bothers me. Have some kind of record, otherwise stfu about it.
He lying, no way anyone figured it out until ... So many singers had accents
actually many people caught their accents but, There are so many singers world wide that can sing in perfect english that , many of us didnt care
I’m sure he did because I thought the same thing when I heard George Michael speak. Took me out and I was 10.
I was 9 when this scandal happened. I was a huge fan. I also noticed their English was off in comparison to their music.
this dude is cool as a fan….
I wonder what their handlers had planned for a second album if the original singers were unhappy
Great interview. Dude is a classic.
it's funny how everyone makes fun of them for not singing their own music but it's cool today if you don't write your own lyrics

great interview..been enjoying this one
I love this man. Beautiful soul
These guys were night and day with having dreads and then having a short cut lol
I lived through Milli Vanilli and I still don't understand why they were such a scandal. It was pop music, really pop music. They were a step past disco. Who gives a sh!t who is singing it or not singing it?
Nicolas Dane over 10 million sold and Grammy awards they weren't the ppl singing is why it was such a scandal
MrWarbucks, for you to say that now, in the era or autotune is very hypocritical. Furthermore, generally the artists who have sold 10 million and won grammy awards are the ones lip synching performances and using autotune. I just remember the scandal and while I don't condone lip synching, everyone was on that fake outrage sh!t, trying to make people understand how terrible this was.
Nicolas Dane but this wasn't even autotune... They didn't sang on the entire record at all.. they had 3 people recording the vocals, 2 guys and a girl actually.
Billy Gil Music Well innit was recorded today autotune would make them sound like Milli vilnilli if that's makes sense
Plenty of producers had dancers lipsyncing to club music around this time (they got sued for credit tho). Frank Farian did the same thing with his previous disco group called Boney M. Somehow the outrage never reached this level.

Much respect for this guy taking the heat. The original band was pretty good, but these guys were used and it's really a sad story.
Fab sings great. Milli Vanilli made these songs famous. The actual vocals could never make it without them that big on these songs. Everyone should know performance, promotion, advertising is what sells albums, not just singing on it. Milli Vanelli was not treated fairly. These guys did NOT steal the vocals of these songs. The person who wrote the song/produced/sang in it, etc, was the person who signed these poor young guys in their 20s on a record contract and gave them an advance to spend. They were auditioned, before this, and told they would be singing on records. They were given songs from the producer who signed them (he had heard of them and seen them performing, so they were talented). But this producer, Frank, had other plans. After recording these guys in the studio on these tracks, he brought in paid studio session musicians to sing on the same tracks and did not feature the voices of the Milli Vanelli signed duo. They wanted to sing on it, but were told to either comply with their label/producer, or pay back advance money which they (no other source of income), had spent already. They were required to lip sync. They were young, poor, and taken advantage of. they did not sing songs merely recorded by "people", and pretend they were the ones who recorded it. Rather, the people who sang the songs and the producer used these 20s year old models/performers to front their music which they (middle aged and non-spectacular), could not front. Milli Vanelli was tricked. They stood their ground not to continue lip syncing after that initial contract term since they now knew the trick, and REFUSED to do a second album with the producer, who then revealed they were not the actual singers, in order to get a piece of the pie. Milli Vanelli, unlike artists who willingly lip sync, insisted to sing or never to represent a new album with the producer. They owned up, asked for forgiveness, volunteered their grammy back first which gave the go ahead for a recall etc. What more did you expect them to do? Meanwhile Frank, the producer did the same thing with Bonny M and others. Milli Vanelli remain heroes in my opinion.
This guy still standing, he been thru a lot and in dying laughing. he handles humility!!
Very talented, so humble, makes you realize that ANYONE would have went along with something like that if it happened to you.
Whatever, Vlad was like everyone else. Had no clue. Yes they had thick accents but most everyone still thought they sang.
