THE TRAIN OLYMPICS: Trains Probably Shouldn't Do This

  • Welcome to another episode of Scrap Mechanic Multiplayer Monday! Today we are doing the Train Olympics! We must build 1 train to participate in 3 events. First is the hurdles, where trains must jump over 5 hurdles and attempt the land back on the track the fastest. Second is target shooting, where we must use a spudgun to shoot targets while standing on top of our moving train. And third is the hay bale toss, where our train must launch a hay bale at a flag, and the closest to the flag wins

    That last tie: I think that the error that comes from eyeballing where the screw goes and basically clamping the measurement to whole blocks could have caused kAN's screw to be closer, but it isn't right to assume his haybale was also closer. It can't be said which bale was closer unless you did a tiebreaker toss.

  • @ClayInvictus
    @ClayInvictus Před 2 lety +110

    If the screw placements had been the actual result, kAN would win. But since it was just an approximation of the haybale position you can't measure at that small scale, and it has to be a tie. Otherwise it would be like judging the long jump results based on the foot prints in the sand (not very accurate).

    Scrap as much as I love you and your content based on standard tie rules the points should be
    Moonbo - 7
    Kan - 6
    Scrapman - 5
    So at least In my books you lost and Moonbo won.
    Edit
    As @Th3Torx pointed out I messed up in my math (he goes more indepth in his reply) meaning that the score is actually
    Moonbo - 7
    Kan - 7
    Scrap - 6
    But the results technically aren't wrong because (as described by @Th3Torx) Moonbo got 2 'gold medals' and 1 'bronze medal' against Kans 1 'gold medal' and 2 'silver medals' Moonbo would still be the winner

    • @ImAdonai
      @ImAdonai Před 2 lety

      Why would Moonbo win? He had 1 point less than Kan and Scrap, so it's either 1st place Kan & Moonbo or 3 way tie. And seeing as they used whole 1x1 blocks to mark the distances it makes no sense to count tenths of the block lengths in scoring, there's obviously 0.5 block margin of error in that measurement to be taken under the account, and differences lesser than that shouldn't have any impact on the scoring.
      It's only fair to count that as a 3 way tie.

    • @Cerulean_Frost

      I think it should be
      Moonbo - 7
      Kan - 7
      Scrapman - 6
      Braking it down in placements
      Moonbo won 2 and lost 1 for a total of 1+3+3
      Kan won 1 and placed second twice for 2+3+2
      Scrapman won 1, placed second once and lost 1 for 3+1+2
      Note that I skipped the second place in the shooting competition where first was a tie, as is the standard procedure in the Olympics as far as I can tell.
      And of course, Moonbo takes the overall victory thank to his 2 'golds'.

    I have a solution for the hay toss tie!
    When you messured that kans throw was a little bit closer to the flag you only messured it from 1 side of the block. The grip makes it vary from a different side because if it and an angle.
    Solution: Meassure it when it is above the pipe. That means it is in the centre of the pipe and the result wont vary from the other side.

  • @hisune_yt
    @hisune_yt Před 2 lety +3

    That last tie was crazy. But the kAN's train fell off the tracks after every toss, so that might be used as the tiebreaker. Since kAN's train can't stay on the track he loses and ScrapMan gets the 2nd. I think ScrapMan even said as a joke that kAN's train falling off the track at the beginning would later be taken into consideration. I guess that's what we need to do.
    In my opinion ScrapMan gets the 2nd place and kAN 3rd.

    The precision limit is the world’s build grid.

    • @FUGP72
      @FUGP72 Před 2 lety

      Yeah, but ScrapMan cheated in the second event with the scoring. If 1st place is 3 points, 2nd is 2 points and last is 1 point, and you have a tie for first place, you don't give both first place 3 points and the last place 2. ScrapMan didn't come in second place. Two others did better than him. so he came in third. He should get 1 point. Meanwhile, the two tied don't get full 1st place points. They share the total of the 1st and second. So they each get 2.5 points.
      May not seem like a big difference, but the real point totals in the second event should have had Scrapman getting 1.5 points less than the other two. Not just 1 point less. So, with a final tie, that made all the difference. Even counting a tie in the final event, it should have been:
      1st - Moonbo 6.5 points (1, 2.5, 3)
      2nd - kAN 6 points (2, 2.5, 1.5)
      3rd - Scrapman 5.5 points (3, 1, 1.5)

Similarly, kAN and Moobo didn't just tie for 1st. They tied for 2nd as well. So they don;t both get 3 points. The split the 1st and 2nd place points, meaning they get 2.5 points each. That turns a 3 way tie at the end into Moonbo winning by 0.5 points over kAN and Scrapman finishing 0.5 points behind kAN in 3rd.

    It is impossible to say who won 2nd place between ScrapMan and kAN without doing a tiebreaker toss due to the errors, however I think that Moonbo should be awarded 1st place for his haybale landing directly at the flag pole.

  • @mid_engine_daytona1774

    The next multiplayer monday you guy should do 90s toys (car related ie. r/c cars)

    Yo scrap man you should have made a mechanism that automatically puts you back on the track without you getting out then you would have took less longer to put the train (if you could even call it that) and you would have a shorter time =)

    When you're doing placement, you should base it on how many people came before you: if two people tie first place, the next one is third, not second.

    SM:MM idea:
    Each person builds a long train with lots of different carriages and a train track with obstacles that pass over it, ie lights etc. You race on foot across and through the train as it speeds down the track, the first to get to the end or the last to get knocked off wins.
    Indiana Jones style

    • @FUGP72

      Shouldn't have been though. The point system was just plain wrong. If two people tie for first place, the other person doesn't get second place points. That is ridiculous. Two competitors came ahead of ScrapMan in the spud gun event. Hence, he came in third.

    I got a scrap mechanic question for you. How do you connect more than one item to the same build via weld? I keep seeing you weld certain items together but when i did it, it would only let me weld together one time. So, if i were to build a piece of concrete 4x4 and wanted to add something i connected to bearing, it would let me connect them together. How do you do that so easily?

    Build a randomized obstical track similar to these kids shows where they have to jump between balls over a pool etc. By randomized I mean you build a logic into it where the sensor detects you coming along and randomly decides if its going to bring the obsticale on you or not.
