    FAQ AT BOTTOM!
EDIT: I made an Instagram to post more simple short updates! If you want to see what I'm up to more often than I post here you should check it out =) @marshallspins
Hi guys!! It looks like the algorithm picked this video up all of a sudden haha! I super appreciate all of you for watching. Adult figure skating videos are what inspired me to start skating, so I love that I can be a part of this community and maybe do the same for someone else. ❀ I'll be putting up monthly updates on my skating, as well as some videos about my other sport- color guard, so subscribe if you want to see more of me =)
    FAQ
    How often do you skate?
My ice time has varied a lot just depending on my weekly work+school schedule. I'd say on average 5-7 hours a week, but some weeks I wouldn't be able to go at all, or only a couple hours and some weeks I would get significantly more.
    How many lessons?
My first 6 weeks I was taking 2 30 min group lessons a a week, then I took 1 a week for my second 6 weeks (though I missed a couple), and I haven't been able to take classes since then so everything after that has been independent practice
What kind of skates do you use?
Jackson freestyles! I started on jackson soft skates but I "outgrew" them once I started jumping
Are you a dancer/ did you do sports??
I did colorguard at a high level for 7 years. For those not familiar, it's a type of dance similar to baton twirling. If you've ever seen a marching band half time show, we are the people with the flags! For those who are familiar, I competed at both wgi and dci =)
    How old are you?
    I'm 22

My rink is a drive so I can't make it out all the time, but rollerblading is something I can just do around the neighborhood and work similar muscles. I found it helpful, but I also already have strong rollerblading skills. I think that the two are different enough that if you don't know how to Rollerblade, it may not be worth it bc you'd have to also develop those skills. You also can't do jumps or spins on regular rollerblades bc they don't have a rocker. But yeah, I liked using them for basics like stroking and crossovers!

I totally understand this feeling, and it's why I missed out on a lot of activities I might have loved to try. But like, fuck man, if being embarrassed for a little bit is the price I pay for an activity that so deeply feeds my soul then so be it imo. Also a couple things, most rinks offer adult classes for people 16 and up, so you probably wouldn't have to skate with the 6 year old prodigies đŸ€Ł, there's a giant community of adults learning to skate at all of the rinks I've been to and they're all so awesome and supportive of eachother, and finally, most non skaters look at adults learning to skate and have a lot of respect for them starting it when they're older even though it's not conventional. Seriously, I really recommend looking into if there's any rinks near you. You won't regret it.

@@marshallspins8348 just went ice skating for the first time today ever since i was 9! i went to the houston galleria where the ice really sucked and the skates were not sharp, but it was really fun! the nearest rink or private lessons are 40 minutes away and with traffic and trying to find parking it takes an hour to get there. gas is really expensive and i just cant drive that for everyday for lessons :( maybe i will get figure inline skates

Yes absolutely!!! I'm 22 and planning to compete in local competitions later this year. My understanding is that there are different levels that you can compete at, so even if you only know very basic skills you can compete and be matched up against other people with similar skill levels =)))

I had genuinely only been ice skating like mayyybe 5 times throughout my whole life before I started taking lessons. The after portion of this video was taken 4 weeks after my first lesson, and the dates on the early clips are accurate. As I said in my video, I already knew how to Rollerblade, so many basic skills were transferable. No lies here, everyone just has a different starting point when you have 22 years of random life experiences to build off of lol

So, even if you didn't skate on ice you didn't start from zero!
Many people who see this video and believe they also can make such progress in 1 month will be dissappointed.
