This is one of my favourite black metal albums ever.
🤘
I remember being depressed and really pissed off at the world at one point in time after relationship troubles and during one of those self loathing sessions, got to hear the ending solo to the first song ever since then ... Mentally, Internally, Artistically work and work to replicate the beauty of that 90s sound.. only very few have achieved what these guys have achieved across all their work as it is diverse. Black Metal was more than just Satan, it's appreciation. For the soon fallen metal gods.
🤘
One of the most essential albums for me alongside Kveldssanger. Vargnatt is also one of my favourite demos, ever.
🤘
I was in a music production class and we had to bring a song in to break down the structure of it in real time. Part a for 8 measures part b for 16 measures and so on. I used Capitel II: Soelen gaaer bag Aase need for that assignment. The teacher actually really liked the song. It was a cool experience for sure.
I love Ulver. No matter what they are doing, it always is worth listening to at least a few times
I think this calls for a Nattens Madrigal classic review now. Haven't listened to Bergtatt in forever so your review has convinced me to revisit.
I can at some point do it. Gotta review something else now, can't just focus on one band :)
This album is an absolute masterpiece. I was in awe when I first got this in the record store over 20 years ago. I dont care much for the later, more artsy fartsy releases, but this, Kveldssanger and Nattens Madrigal make Ulver one of my favorite metal bands. What a voice this man has. Im proud to say Im from the same place as Garm. We probably walk around in the exact same forests.
I wish they only kept going and honing this one, but no, they decided to do something totally different. I kinda want to say they wimped out but that would be dishonest, too. Anyway, one of their best works for sure. Could have been better if they only kept honing this style.
Ulver will never be pigeonholed.
Gotta love these guys!
Norwegian Metallica then essentially 😀
Yes but way more intriguing
in every possible aspect for
Me personally.
Love the 4 albums Metallica
Released in the 80’s. Those
Are the only albums I own.
With Ulver I’m missing a couple
Of their albums but I have a pretty
Cool amount of them too.
Sounds good. I went thru the whole Ulver discography in my Norwegian black metal series.
Yes you did, I like your channel
And I find Finnish people in general to be very special and
Intriguing individuals. Your land, your culture, your language…
It’s all fantastic and one of kind!
Hail to the Suomi People!
@DaveDiIonno-zp6qv Thank you sir
i like how this page reviews RABM and NS, fair reviews.
Thanks. That's the point. To.fo beyond ideology.
Truly a classic. I remember in the nineties getting a tape of Ulver through Dalamar of As Stormclouds Gather. We were pen pals for a long time before internet. Its a majestic release for sure.
this is one of those albums that changed the way i looked at metal. one of my first black metal albums i could appreciate when i was younger! underrated - overrated, whatever. this album rules. their new stuff isn’t bad, i especially loved their sunn O))) collaboration
Very well done review, as always, Jerry!
Thanks!
The first three albums were good, wish they has kept going in that direction
Yeah. Me too.
I like their new music much as their older ones
🤘
10/10!
🤩
I love this album, my interpretation is that it captalized on 1990s overall zeitgeist, overlapping some shoegaze mellow vocals but in a the Norwegian cultural context. I say that that because uk trip-hop is now very much signature modern Ulver aesthetic. Bergtatt is also the biggest influence for the blackgaze genre as a whole and so on, probably...
But because of that, a lot of people may be turned down by the band or the album. As a last remark, Ulver is a total hispter staple nowdays, which says it all.
Well said.
Awesome record. I always considered this a progressive album
Very good album.
🤘
A classic. This was one of the first BM albums I got on cd. IMO Ulver is still good relative to the rest of their genre, but Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal will remain the best of their works. Thanks for the video👍🏻
🤘
Nattens Madrigal is better.
For sure! 🤘
I need to revisit that as well.
I enjoyed this album but Nattens is their best work imo
🤘
I don't think he smokes.
People: i love how non-conformist black metal is, its like a giant middle finger to the accepted norm, buncha simple minded sheeple.
Also people: ugh, Ulver is so overhyped, why cant they just play black metal again like all the other black metal bands.
Seriously speaking though, the fact that Ulver can perform at a very high level in more than 1 genre, is astounding. Black metal, dark folk, trip hop, ambient, industrial, synthpop?! Its one thing if they attempted another genre, but then ran back to black metal with their tails between their legs, but not Ulver. That being said, i'm not the biggest fan of some of their later stuff, while they did great synthpop on "The Assassination of Julius Cesar", they dropped the ball completely on "Flowers of Evil", but then again i hear people saying that album is as good as any Depeche Mode album.
To me Flowers of Evil is like a dull Depeche Mode album. 6/10. And I do like Depeche Mode a lot
I love Flowers Of Evil too
Over hyped band. I never liked them
Same here my. Ulver's music just doesn't interest me
@@lexbeltran1354 when I picture every hipsters top band list I see ulver as their top pic.
Gotta say I'm somewhat surprised!
@@RautaMetal I can be surprising haha
Not a bad trait
