- Crate training puppy to sleep in the crate instead of crying, barking, and whining non-stop in the dog crate at night. In this series of videos, I share my journey training my new 10 week old cane corso puppy from the very first night (Day 1) today 15 when he was fully crate trained to sleep at night time.

Puppy whining in the crate can be very hard to bear and it can also make the new owner's life miserable. I hope this series of videos can give viewers confidence in training their puppy positively without using force but with attention and companionship in getting the new puppy use to its new safe bed in the crate.
Many years ago I have had dogs when I was younger without using a crate. It was great. It was suited for my lifestyle at the time. Now having large, active, powerful, and can be dominant breeds living inside the house with elderly, toddler, children, and my work I have decided to use crate and t is one of the best tools to keep the puppy, family members, and house assets safe. The crate is great for sleeping and short time resting during the day. It is not a cage to keep your dog in for a long period of time. Dogs do need a lot of companionships and playtime, these will help with crate training in the evenings too

sitting 2am with my puppy watching this HAHA
I just got my 5 week puppy yesterday and he woke up every 30min / 1h ... didn’t sleep much today
@@Joanavs2003 how are things going now?
It is literally two am and I'm watching this too! 🤣🤣🤣 My little Samoyed is stubborn as a mule but this is working!
Same 😅
@@Joanavs2003 5 weeks is a bit early to take away from mother 🤔
dude, i was up at 1:30am watching this… tried it and within 10min our new baby girl was as calm and quiet as a can be. literally worked like a charm. 🙏
Just when I thought it was about to be a long night, I found this video! Literally worked within minutes
Got my puppy 3 days ago. Before bringing him home, I watched all these videos. I followed your technique and it WORKED WONDERFULLY! First 2 nights he cried for about 5 mins, then 3 mins. Then last night he didn't cry AT ALL! Thank you SO MUCH!
Do you just hold him and put him in the crate?
Denise Allicino
My dog kept me up to 4 am
But it was cause he had respotory infection sadly I don’t have him anymore but I’m getting a new one
Did he need to go out to potty at all?
Do you even understand how many people can sleep now PEACEFULLY THANK YOU SO MUCH BRO😊
😆 Thats good to hear
To all the people out there, guys IT WORKED!! I'm so happy! I got my puppy yesterday and when I crated him I first tried the method according to which you crate the puppy and you do not open the crate door no matter what. It was a disaster. He started chewing everything and jumping and screaming like he was dying. At some point I realised it wouldn't work so I tried this method as shown in the video. It took him a good 2.5 hours to finally fall asleep peacefully but today he remembered everything and it was so much easier! It took 20 minutes this time. I'm going to shower now, and he is sleeping like an angel in his crate. He is a 2.5 month kokoni dog. Sir, thank you so much for sharing this video! You saved so many people out there!❤️
So u did this at night and it worked?
What about in the day time like you have to eat and get the dog in the crate should I still use the opening and closing method?

This is amazing and works!! The whole shutting them in the cage and ignoring doesn’t work! 2nd night of having my puppy i tried this method, he accepted that he had to be in the cage and laid down! I’m not sure if your page is still live but thank you sooooo much
This is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I can't believe how QUICK and easy this worked! I have an 8 week old rottweiler pup. First night he screamed and howled all night like he was being butchered. I tried this and it worked the first training session (puppy laying down calm). And it only gets better with each training session. I took it a step further and gave my pup treats when he stayed quiet and also started to create distance from the crate until eventually I'm out of sight, rewarding him when he remains quiet. I'm now sitting on the couch with my pup in the crate and he's quiet! It's only day one of trying this! DAY FREAKING ONE 🙏🏾 I promise you before this, if that door closed, he was howling and whining like he was dying. Even if you were sitting next to the crate.
This is hands down the most useful video on puppy crying at night..
People, when I say this works, THIS WORKS !! I bought a female husky puppy and mistakenly, because of her cuteness my wife and I had her in our bed the second night. On the third night we wanted to crate train her for the future, so I tried this, and on the second try, leaving her then coming back after she screamed to the top of her lungs, I did it. I left her and went to bed. I kid you not within SECONDS she was knocked out sleep. This man is a life saver ! Thank you so much !! Easiest training ever . Can’t wait for tomorrow night !
Thank you so much for sharing! Just started doing this training with my puppy last night and noticed an immediate difference from the first two nights we had her!
After watching a million videos and reading thousands of articles and trying every trick in the book, I was about to give up on ever sleeping again as my 10 week old Golden Retriever cried nonstop for 2 weeks. After watching this video at 4am in the morning, I started training her like this. After only one session she already started to lie down inside. After two she was sleeping. And the third one of the day she slept through the night! Thank you so much!
Awesome result. Thank you for sharing.
Well done I will try with my puppy
Holy shit, been trying this with my puppy and we’re at the end of day 1 and he just stopped crying almost immediately and lay down.. now he’s asleep.
What a freaking miracle.
Thank you SO much! We got our pup two nights ago and the first night was such a disaster Found your video yesterday and we had a successful night!
Anyone else here in 2020? PawVlogs thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with this. Currently sitting on the floor at 3am on her second night with us, and she’s making amazing progress! We’ve had hardly any crying and she seems to really just understand. 5 minutes MAX and she’s snoring. Thank you so much for making crate training waaaaay easier than I thought it would be.
Reezy B 2020 here ! I’m going to try with my 8 weeks chihuahua , I hope it works , I can wait to get some sleep
I can’t believe this worked! After only 5 mins! I am so happy I could cry
This man knows what he’s talking about..I did this with my 8 week old Cane Corso pup and by day 3 there was zero crying in the cage...thank you!!
Awesome, thank you
Do you pick him up and just put him in the crate?
We got our black lab puppy three days ago at 8 weeks old. She likes her crate but just not sleeping in it with the door closed. The last few nights have been tough. She cries for at least 45 mins before she goes to sleep at her initial bed time and every time we put her back in after a middle of the night potty break. I tried this tonight about 25 mins ago and after 15 mins she got the hint that whining isn't going to get her out of her crate. I left the room she's in about ten minutes ago and she has not whined once and she is sound asleep! We will keep working on it but thank you for the great tips and videos. They are a huge help!!
i dont comment on videos as much but lemme say this: NOT ALL HEROS WEARS CAPES .. i tried this with my puppy. just 3 days after doing this he now gets inside his crate, doesn’t cry or bark anymore! I AM SHOOKETH! Thank u sm.
Thank you so much for your advice! This technique has worked like a charm on our 10 week cockapoo. I wish we found your video when we first brought him home - he would whine and cry all night and wouldn’t settle but now we are on day 5 of this technique and he goes in and lies down straight away. No more crying or trying to escape the crate! Thank you so much, you have saved our sanity!
Worked like a charm! my frenchie pup fell asleep in 2 minutes. This is such a good technique! Thank you very much, it was heartbreaking to hear him cry so much!
Literally the only method that has worked. FINALLY we are getting sleep and our pup is doing well at night. Had to do this every time she woke up the first night and went back in after her pee. Then the following night she went in every time without a fight. Any time we need to, we do this method and it’s a quick response from her and she lays down. She started longer stretches within a couple days as well. No whining. Thank you for posting!
One hour later and he’s falling asleep 😭 thank youuuu
you are a blessing thank you
We just brought our 8 week old English Mastiff baby home and tonight was the 1st night of crate training. I followed your method and it worked exactly as in your video. In less then 5 minutes she layer down and went to sleep. I am so excited I had to share with you and those that might read this because of how fast it worked. Thank you so much!
Hey man got my Doberman 1 week ago. I will give him credit that he is a very smart dog. Then I will give you the credit with this series. It took 3 days, and he already knew that crate time was quite time. Thank you so much. Last but not least I'll give myself and anyone else with a puppy credit 😂. Good luck and listen to this guy.
Brand new puppy just stopped crying after about 8 minutes once I left the room after using this technique!!! Thank you so much!!
I love how he plays soothing music 🎶, his demeanor is great . Thanks
I brought home my 9 week old corgi today & she wouldn’t stop crying in the crate. I came on CZcams, watched this video & after 25 minutes of training, all of sudden, she was quiet & sleeping calmly. I can’t thank you enough 😭🙏🏼
Oh my gosh!!! This worked! My puppy is now calm and finally got him to sleep! Thank Goodness I found this video!
Thank you friend
This approach seriously worked for us in 1 night. Ive never seen anything like it!!
Thank you!!
I’m reading these comments and praying I can come back with a success story as well! 1 week with our 8 week old puppy barking her head off for 15~30 minutes after we put her in crate at night. I guess she finally gives up but it’s very stressful on us all and I really want her to be calm and relaxed when we put her down for bed. 🙏🙏🙏
Best crate training video.. worked within minutes
Got our 8 week old lab yesterday and this technique worked amazing! Took about 10-15 mins for him to settle, then slept great for 2 hours before potty break. When we got back inside it took
I love this technique, this video and your whole manner. Thank you so much! Feel so much better for my Puppa now I’ve watched this ❤️
I'm watching this and I don't even have a dog lol
This made me giggle so hard
Thank you! I’ve been able to get my puppy comfortable in the crate but haven’t got her to relax completely, I tried this last night and it worked amazingly, going to try it the next few night as she’s already crying less each time:)
I get my pup in 1 day thanks SO much for this I needed this
I just came by to say thank you. I followed your advice, and did it exactly the way you did in the video. It worked perfectly and I have a stable, sound, happy puppy. I have shared this video many times, and it's my go to for best way forward. thank you.
Thank you for your kind words
I really appreciate your video. THANK YOU!!!
Your method worked really great for a abused rescue dog I brought home today. You solved my problems 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Awesome, the dog is lucky to be with you.
Thanks so much for advice. My daughter and husband got puppy and you have been a lifesaver !
Watching this as I help crate train my son's puppy and it is working magically!
That's awesome
I've had my Siberian husky puppy for about a month and she kept crying at night. I tried this and it worked like magic on the first try
Infinitymayra
I just got my siberian husky 2 night ago and he only whines when its time to go in the crate. (No matter what time)
I got a sibarian husky 4 days ago, i tried this and some other tips, but he keeps wining, he wakes me up every hour...😒
@@daivonachism9899 did it worked during the day and night time?
Also have a husky pup, we will try this. He’s good at sleeping at night (not in the crate) but we him to sleep in the crate at night. Down fall is my husband works early mornings. But is determined to do this. Lol
Dude I feel so confident in this method thank you gonna get my pup tomorrow
Omg! You are a genius. I watched other videos and all of them talk nonsense. Tried this on the first night of my puppy.
Thank you for the video series. The first two nights were challenging but after that we have been doing really well. Thanks again :)
GENIUS!!!!! Just brought my 8-week old Pug pug puppy home today, and tonight with your method, after FIVE MINUTES, he got the message and went right to sleep! Later he will get his pee break, and then right back in the crate until the next pee break or morning, whichever comes first. After I watched so many other videos, and was preparing for an “all nighter”, I stumbled on your no nonsense, calm, simple method. THANK YOU and subscribed.
Thank you 🥺
Thank you so much 😊!!!
Thank you thank you!! Our puppy was getting up 3 to 5 times a night, which we mistakenly took out for a pee each time. We broke the cycle by following everything here and holy cow it worked! the first night was tough, but by the 2nd night she got it. It works! thank you for putting these videos together, they have completely helped our family.
So thankful for your trick. My puppy cried so much the first night we have to cave in and let him sleep with us. I'm doing what you said and puppy got bored after awhile and just went to sleep by himself and I was able to leave the room without more crying. Much appreciated!
Worked perfectly on the first day!! Thank you so much!
You are very welcome 😊
Anybody who comes by this video and wonders. THIS WORKS AMAZINGLY WELL. My mini dachshund understood the "game" very quikly and training lasted 4 nights. After a month I have removed the door from the crate, he sees it as HIS den and goes in himself and enjoys time alone there. I just took the advice of this video and tried to make sure there were no negative experiences inside the crate. I have only added with time saying "night night" as I leave, to inform and command that now is quiet and or sleep time. Playing and exploring time is over
My wirehaired vizsla was a nightmare before this trick. Absolute godsend! Thank you!
I can't believe this worked within 5 minutes..day 1 so far so good!!
Can’t wait to try this
Waaaauwww i did this for 15 minutes. I had such a hard time before! It workt amazing!!
This helped me a lot on my puppy's first day. Thank you so much!
You are very welcome Kate
You are a freaking lifesaver!!!!
thanks
Hey mate I'm literally sitting here at 3am with my pug puppy watching your videos. It works! I'm on night one and I just came across your video by luck! The opening and closing of the gate helps to control the behaviour. Thanks a bunch!
3am.. you need some beauty sleep 👏 thanks for the feedback
That’s a genius method ❤
Really helpful. This has been the most useful way to train my puppies.
Thank you so, so much! We had our 3 1/2 month old terrier-poodle for four days and the nights were ROUGH! I watched this video and I tried this the first night, and she laid in her crate without crying in about 5 minutes. I was able to just walk away. Amazing! I can sleep again!
Yay, that's so good to hear! Nice!
Trying this tonight with my 8 week old GSD had him 3 nights and he screams like he's being murdered so spent 3 nights on the sofa.. this dog seems super calm as when I last closed the crate door on Dax he drop kicked it lol
I just brought home a 8 week old Pitbull puppy. Second night of trying this and first night was rough but a lot better second night! Definitely works.
Excellent video! Very helpful!
Wow THANK YOU so much. Your method was the only method that worked for my 8 week old Yorkie. Two weeks later just about and he is fully crate trained. Again, THANK YOU
Also for anyone just trying this, the first week for me was HARD. It felt so impossible, but after the 7th day or so, it was like magic all of a sudden he didn’t fuss once I closed the door. Stick with it. My pup would eventually just close his eyes and sleep (whining for less than 30 seconds) By the 14th day he no longer wines at all. Sometimes during the day he goes in his crate to play. Now that he’s comfortable in his crate, I’m trying to teach him the command. It took a lot of patience, but it was worth it.
Great method! One thing I want to add that will help all you fellow puppy crate trainers, is do not let a puppy have too much space in his crate. Use a divider, if he has more space than his bed, it invites the behavior of peeing in his crate, wherever his bed isn’t. Much love! Good luck all of you!
I will remember that last part. My new pup does her business in the cage a lot. So I do my best to get her out when she 1st Wakes up.
We got our third dog yesterday - a 8 week old miniature bull terrier. I watched your crate training videos in advance and loved them. Our pup is so easy - he jumps into his crate by himself without coaxing and has barely made a noise except when he needed to go outside to do his business.
thanks a lot
He is too cute…I agree with your daughter.
This works! Did this to my 3 month Malinois and she's been very calm in crate now along with knowing when to come out only when I command "Okay"!
Tong Vang how did you teach the command okay means come out?
@@mollyoxy use treats. When you get them to stay by opening and shutting the door, once they calm and stay you then say okay and then give them treat. You start by doing short time and then extending the duration until they know that only when you command them is when they can come out
Thank you so so much it's really help!!!!!!!!!
I rarely leave comments on videos but felt compelled too!
I got my first puppy in 2022, followed your video and he was crate trained by day 5 (10 weeks old). We got our second puppy a few days ago, re-visited your video and he was crate trained by 4 days (8 weeks old). They’re both miniature dachshunds.
Your videos have been incredible, i followed every step and it paid off! The first few days are always hard, both pups screamed bloody murder and I was afraid what my neighbours would think (we’re in an apartment) but be persistent! After I left, I’d wait 10-15 minutes before returning (depending on how loud they cried)
But eventually a few days later, after 5-10mins, they would naturally settle down and I would repeat the steps as necessary during late night potties.
Whenever I was losing hope or feeling anxious, I’d return to your videos, re-watching them & reading the wonderful comments. Everyone who’s shared their experiences have been so helpful and reassuring, it gave me so much hope during hard times that things will get better and our pups can do it!
I wanted to do the same, this video was posted 5 years ago and still works like MAGIC! Good luck to those training new pups, be kind to yourself, revisit the videos if needed and don’t lose hope, there’s wonderful experiences in the chat that will support you through this hard time 😊 Thank you PawVlogs!!
Optional Tip (depending on the size of your dog) mine sleeps in their crate at night, they hate being there in the day as they associate it with bedtime. Now in the day I switched to a big foldable playpen and have separate spaces for bedtime vs. daytime and they much prefer this (no crying/ whining, they will happily play/ relax in the day pen knowing I’ll return) 😊
This video was so helpful! You are a legend!
I’m gonna try this hopefully my puppy stops crying when she’s in the crate
Thank you thank you thank you!!! We had a dog who screamed and screamed when she went in the crate. We had a week of no sleep. I thought I had no hope. I did this one night so far....and wow it’s like having a new dog. And she is happy. Your a genious. And I’m forever grateful
Great job 😀
So u did this at night and it worked?
What about in the day time like you have to eat and get the dog in the crate should I still use the opening and closing method?
Omg this has helped me so so much I cannot believe it. We have had our cockapoo for a week now, he was 10 weeks when we got him and tried crate training and read so much information and nothing worked. He was being unsafe and biting the bars and got his jaw stuck 3 times so we gave up and had him in our room on the floor, but we still weren’t sleeping much. I tried this method this afternoon and have got him to go in twice now and settle so quickly. I’ve even been able to leave the room very briefly and sit out of site. This is the furthest we have ever got and it’s taken 30 minutes! I will be trying over night now solidly and hope this can solve our crate problems!
Oh my goodness! Tried this for half an hr for my 7 wk old bernedoodle, 1st night! It worked!
Thanks a ton for this vid. At first I was skeptical because I didn't see any "experts" recommending this, and I was worried that it would consume the pup by sending mixed messages. But after seeing all the positive feedback, I gave it a shot. And it really works! I'm not having perfect results, but definitely good results. The pup still cries a bit, but generally sleeps through the night without accidents, and that makes it worthwhile. Now I just need to get him to consistently eliminate outside...
I don’t usually comment on things but I must give credit where it is deserved! My 5 month husky/german shepherd would literally cry all night before I started this technique! I’m on day 4 and happy to report that this was the first night that she didn’t cry at all!!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to create these videos. If anyone else is doubting the technique, I would definitely suggest exercising with your dog beforehand, that made a huge difference for me. Best of luck to all and just stick to it, it really does work.
Thank you I am very happy to hear it works for you as well
omg this is sooo helpful
just got a new puppy, ill definitely have to try this.
I low key was doing this after watching this video I managed get her to calm down and even put her to sleep 🙏🏾
Thank you soooo much for this video!!!! My 8 week old puppy would cry bloody murder for hours! I tried this and it worked in less than 10 minutes!!!! I would not believe it if I didn’t see it myself. Again thank you!!!!
WOW this worked so well, night 3 at 1am I watched this and it was a lifesaver from night 4 on... crazy how well this works! Our Vizsla puppy now sleeps all night in her crate with no whining!!! Thank you for posting and keeping this video up all these years!!!
Glad it helped!
Wow! This worked after like 15 mins!!! I found it because my mini Labradoodle was crying bloody murder in my apt. THANK YOU!
Sameee
My shorkie was crying too we also live in apartment
this really help thanks for the vlog
Amazing video helped me with our new labadoodle. She was very unhappy being in the kitchen area with a baby gate. I sat outside the gate so she could see me and verbalized NO every time she started bark-whining and within 10 minutes she got bored layed down and has been asleep for almost 20 minutes and counting now.
Set a 2.5 hour timer to wake her up and take her out tonight around 2:30 am and my wife should be taking her out at 5 am after.
So far working like a charm so thank you for this general training advice helped us so far to reinforce good night behaviors.
Also if anyone is concerned about not having a crate etc. Just know the method works with or without the crate (at least for our dog so far) just sit in visible sight ignore the initial temper tantrum and watch as he/she will get bored and just lay down and start to fall asleep. Repeat leaving quietly when they are bored and coming back to sit and watch until the puppy stays asleep and make sure you set your alarms to wake up and take out the puppy and repeat this process (I am assuming as I'm currently doing this now at midnight hahaha been almost a perfect 30 minutes of quiet. Took prob 25 minutes after bedtime was initiated to get to the "sleeping")
Good luck to all the new and future dog parents out there sleep is possible while renforcing good night behavoris!!
This is the first video I came across of this guy and I think he’s brilliant!. He literally shows us first hand with a untrained dog how it should be done. Excellent work! I like this guy I’m gonna subscribe and check out more of his videos.. blessings from Ireland 🇮🇪
OMG THIS WORKED SO WELL THANK U
Great thank you for your feedback 😀
This works like a charm we only wish we found it on the 1st night! Frustrated and looking for answers...i found YOUR channel, I watched the whole crate training series at 2:30 in the morning (on night two) of training, by night three our pup Geronimo slept the whole way through the night... THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH...we followed it to the tee an it works like a dream!!! THANK YOU!!!
awesome thank you
Idk but I left the crate opened turn off the lights . My pup whines for a bit but went back in the crate 🤷🏾♂️ so I guess it worked 😂
So u did this at night and it worked?
What about in the day time like you have to eat and get the dog in the crate should I still use the opening and closing method?
It worked thanks
Same here😊
I fell asleep watching. Excellent
awesome video i will try this tonight
Dude... you are a ninja... this is so amazing.
It was like 11pm... first night with puppy... crate is in our room like everyone said we should do... he's crying sooooooo bad. We were both about to cave in and let him into our bed. My wife suggested we watch some CZcams videos on 'puppy first night crying'. This video was the first to come up. I was SUPER skeptical.
Just a guy in his living room with a funny shirt on. Unlike all these polished, edited, videos from training schools we had been watching. It was only 6 min long so why not?
I watched in total disbelief... no way... it can NOT be that simple. We figured what's the harm? Poor baby was pawing at the walls and crying VERY loud. No way this was going to work...
It totally worked. I felt like I was hacking the matrix. I mean it instantly worked. I didn't say anything... I didn't do anything more or less than what you described in the video. We were able to actually get a few hours of sleep between potty breaks! Whenever he'd start crying again we'd let him out to go potty, come back in to the crate, he'd cry some more and we'd do this method... back to sleep!
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!
So u did this at night and it worked?
What about in the day time like you have to eat and get the dog in the crate should I still use the opening and closing method?
you're videos were helpful to me ! thank you I have learned a lot
You are very welcome
