    - I am not a professional mechanic. Use these instructions at your own risk. Always wear your safety gear and follow safe work shop practices. If you have any doubts about your ability to do this project, take it to a professional! Do not risk your or other peoples safety.
    - I would recommend completely flushing out the old brake fluid with new. Who knows how long your old fluid has been in there and since you have to bleed your brakes when replacing the lines anyway, now is a great time for new fluid.

    I want to do this. I started with the rear and had such a difficult time with it I gave up. Gonna take it to a shop and let them have fun with it. I had the same problem with the line wrench and the nut is completely round because of my buddy and even the Vice grips and very very small amount of heat didnt make the nut budge! Super aggravating project for me. Glad to see you came out with better results!

      I understand your feelings! Those lines are really hard to get off. I have not tried the rear yet and I'm not excited about that project.

    After doing this this week, I would suggest trying to break that brake line fitting on the inner side of the frame rail before loosening the connection from the frame rail itself. Once I had the line loose from the frame rail, it was impossible for me to disconnect the brake line fitting from the rubber hose, as the hard line was bending on the inside of the frame rail. I ended up having to disconnect the other end of that hard line at the brake proportioning valve, and was unable to get the thread started back again. I ended up having to take out two other lines from the PV, then disconnecting the brake lines right out of the brake reservoir, and removing them all at once. Once I had it all out I easily broke the brake line fitting, re-threaded the other end into the PV, and then inserted the whole thing back into the engine bay.

    Bremen makes a darn good imitation of the original ViceGrip. Most others are crap.
    My brake hose was acting like a check valve.

    I’m thinking about grinding it down with a hand grinder on the outside, that way you won’t break the fitting inside of the frame.

    Currently replacing all of the rubber lines on a 76 sierra that i dug out of a barn. New hoses are on order, i had to use a grinder to cut off the frame fittings on the front. Super aggravating job, everything is rusted badly and just wants to round off. Just want to drive my truck !

    I replaced the rear drums last year and I must say that popping the wheel studs out and all of the extra stuff is a real pain sometimes but because it's such a heavy duty truck it makes it all worth it. Now with the help from your video I'll change my brake pads the rotors look fine. I'm also changing a bad front flexible brake line. How did I remove the clips holding the flex line to the hard line? Vise grips and pull real hard? It's like a set of 2 clips.

    • @GodsCountry
      @GodsCountry  Před 8 lety

      +Ron McGuiness I haven't dug into my rear brakes but I need to. If I remember correctly, yes, just pull the clips out. Or maybe rotate them away from you and tap them out with a screwdriver and hammer?

    The hardest part about this job is the damn nuts and lines are always stuck. Penetrating oil, patience and good wrenches is essential for this job. Once you pull your wrench a lil too hard and round that nut, your day is ruined.

    • @GodsCountry
      @GodsCountry  Před 5 lety

      Very true! If the nut rounds, I have had some success with vise-grips. Sometimes its tough working on these old vehicles!

      @@GodsCountry why not just sawzall it off? Not like you're gonna replace the lines and not the fittings.

  • @hastyhillfarmand4x480

    My blazer sat for 25 years and the brake lines are completely fucked, I doubt there going to come apart without some serious effort, I'm thinking about just cutting the metal line and re running my own Jerry rigged lines under the frame if I can figure out how to

    • @GodsCountry
      @GodsCountry  Před rokem +1

      Old lines can be tough get unscrewed. I believe they make completely new hard lines for square body trucks. You might want to consider that. Safety first. Brakes are important.

    Hey! I have an 85 GMC C2500 with a 305. I was wondering if you would know what size (not length, but that would be great too) and style of brake like I would need for that. I've been meaning to get under there and grab some, but it's colder than a freezer outside, and now there is snow all over. I would guess 3/16th double flare? I have no clue though, I barely got a look at it. Also, what size screw-thing-a-ma-bobs at the ends? I don't know what those are called. I don't know what I'm doing, help! Haha. Appreciate it!

    • @GodsCountry
      @GodsCountry  Před 8 lety +1

      +skillzorz101 Hey Thanks for the comment. I really wish I could help but the honest truth is that I just don't know the answer to that. I think you're asking about the hard line size and fittings. You should ask that on one of the 73-87 truck forums. Just so that you know, they sell prebent hard line kits if you're interested. I'm pretty sure that bending your own will probably be cheaper though. Sorry I couldn't help more.
