Michelle Wu technically it is a different character change. Criminal minds was getting into the minds of criminals and not really fighting, it was more so helping police departments know what kind of suspects their looking for,whereas His new show is him actually playing the character of him being part of the action and fighting. And he is the lead character of the show.

@@sublimedummie420 i have watched the first few series of criminal minds, and all of them had hotch in it. i think he was really good and i hated that he left so much. he was just such a big piece. however, i think he didnt make the show dry after he left, and the show after his departure actually did well until the very end.

I feel like JJ doesn't get enough credit. I've loved seeing her grow as a character we got to see her become a profiler, mother, wife, and overall badass woman. Her story line was always really interesting to me because she was one of the only ones that had kids and somehow balanced it all with her job. Love her.

I like AJ Cook as an actress, and I liked JJ as a media liaison and mother. But I had a hard time believing the bureau chose her to go overseas on a top secret mission as revealed in the 200th episode.
Also, upon her return in Season 7, she basically became a profile overnight, and that didn't ring true to character to me. JJ herself said she never considered taking classes and that she loved her media liaison role.
I acknowledge that people change their minds and change careers all the time. But in her case, the change didn't seem realistic.
I am glad the producers brought AJ back, and I am glad she stayed on because the more people from Season 1, the better (it was a crappy move to fire her in the first place). And I, too, liked that JJ was able to somewhat balance work and family.
But she as a profiler just wasn't believable to me. Or perhaps the profiling part and speaking to suspects and unsubs was fine, but her fighting crime in the field felt off. And her acting as a sniper in Season 15? Made me cringe.
Just my opinion of course. I've shared it elsewhere before, and it did not make people happy. So hopefully, there's less anger here.

Gianna Gilotty not to be rude or anything but personally I don’t like JJ that much. I mean think about it she has been with her baby daddy for a while but every time she says she loves him she lies because she has loved Reid for like every. Also when Reid got kidnapped she was acting like she was someone was going to kill her or someone but a gun to her head when literally all she did was shoot 3 dogs. But of course everyone is entitled to there own opinion this is just how I feel about JJ.
Hotch was the Batman of this series. His voice and determination, his demeanor was amazing. Once he left, I did too.

I’m still sad by Gideon’s departure. He was a tram leader and helped young profilers like Reid. He was my favorite, and it broke my heart that he left.
He is the best!!! All the others I could survive, but he was such a good actor and such a professional agent on screen, he seems such a sincere person irl too. An incredible actor truly
What bothered me about Gideon is that he could get caught up like this by a killer who he knew so well?... It happened to Hotch too but it's weird how these deep thinking characters could slip like this in their real lives whereas they would NEVER slip like this on their jobs.

I hated seeing Shemar Moore leave. The interplay between his character and Garcia was priceless which gave a humor filled break to all the drama, horror, and gore that was portrayed.

When Gideon left i was soooo sad but Hotch omgggggg my heart broke in half. He was the best leader of the BAU. Every time I watch the episode with his wife I just cry my eyes out.
First was sad about Elle's, then Gideon's leaving... But when Hotch left, I couldnt watch anymore without him there.

comprehend why anyone hates Elle; from my perspective it seems to me the only people who hate her are conservatives / pro-law individuals. She shot and killed a rapist who was about to get away with his crimes... must anything more be said? Hotch and Gideon handled her attack horrifically. When Emily was attacked they made sure to fake her death look after her when she got back etc... but apparently Elle wasn't deserving of help and was just pushed aside while everyone expected her to move on.

But either way, killing someone doesnt allow them to pay for their crimes, she could have aimed for his leg or something so he doesnt walk away. She blew the case for everyone and thats why he wasnt put away in the first place.

Sure he deserves a suspension and owes the writer an apology, but he was such a good actor and Hotch was an amazing character, so yes letting Gibson go was 100% a mistake.

Thomas Gibson's role as Aaron Hotchner was the heart of the show...his character was always caring and sympathetic...even to some of the killers. I miss him very much. So glad Paget Brewster is back. I love this show but will always want Hotch back.

Omg...this show been with me since i was a teenager...it help my younger sister with her decision to join the HPD and built her career as a fbi profiler...and by decision of being a criminal psychologist...kinda like a profiler...i cried when Aaron left...he was the pillar of the team...and seeing Derek leave hit me too...like that bff relationship between him and penelope was unique...but this Luke guy...he is something else as well...but i don’t think he will replace Derek....can’t believe it ended at 15 seasons...i wish i had more..😭

Also, new information came up that Thomas Gibson was defending Paget since the writer was trying to make her do a sexual scene that she didn't want to do, so at this point, I think what Thomas did was justified.

Hotch & Gideon were the 2 biggest blows of the show. Mandy just seem to have that aura of Gideon, he portrayed his character very well, as did Hotch.

Gideon was like Grissom from CSI spooky good. He was the only one to beat Reid at chess. He got into the unsubs heads and knew what they were thinking. Hotch always had that look like he could figure out an unsub and kick his butt too. You knew when he said wheels up in 30 it was time to get to work.

By coincidence , today I was watching Mandy Patinkin ( Gideon ) in an old movie called The Princess Bride .
My favorite team was always Reid, Morgan, prentiss, jj, Garcia, hotch and rossi. When I first watched criminal minds this was the cast currently and they stuck with me. I didn't know it would change so dramatically 😭

Hotch was the heart of the show. He carried the BAU on his shoulders and was it's moral and empathetic compass.
It was never the same without Gideon. Mandy Pitinkin had a depth to his character that forced you to get to know him as the show went on; he wasn’t flat like some of the other characters.
I totally agree. He was compassionate and profound. Always deep in thought. Missed him; To me Rossi couldn't fill his shoes adequately. Like what you said, no depth

Eh, while I think he's a great actor. I definitely confused Gideon with Rossi several times when the reruns weren't in order. It was just like, "Older, more experienced mentor dude... yes... that is him... I forget his name." And then you could tell me Gideon one day and then Rossi the next and I'd still be like, "Yes... the man who walked into the gas station with that stuttering murderer from yesterday."
The only character I was shocked and sad to see walking out was Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) he was an important character for me.. but I love Shemar's new character on S.W.A.T... And I love the fact that they kept JJ
I agree - Shemar Moore’s departure was so sad. It changed the tone of the show. Morgan and Garcia’s friendship helped keep a little lightness in the show (the other interpersonal friendships do too). Morgan and Garcia had a special bond though that kept the show from being too dark. They had humor between them as well. I also agree about A. J. Cook’s character J.J. I never understood the reasoning of why she was let go in the first place. She had a vulnerability about her, and after Gipson left, she was the only married character, and it was refreshing to see someone in that kind of job balancing her work with the needs of her family. I was so glad that she was brought back! I would love to see more of the guy who plays her husband on the show - I liked him a lot. He was very supportive of her, and because he was in law enforcement as well, he really understood what she saw and dealt with everyday. He loved her enough to give up his job on Louisiana to follow her for her work and then become a “stay-at-home” dad.💕 I enjoyed seeing the relationship between the two of them as a couple. We are also not seeing much of Garcia’s boyfriend, Kevin this season. I liked him as well. He was kind of quirky just like Garcia and I thought they were a good match. So what happened to those two guys??? Have they left the show entirely?
I stopped watching because they changed to many people on the show from when the show first started and it was the same ol plot each week diffrent seenary actors same plot.

I just didn't expect it would be Derek Morgan... and about the plot, it is not always the same but I agree there is certain ¨dynamic¨ that is always the same... after all this years it gets easier to guess who the bad guy is before they show their hand.

Lola was far from forgettable. I greatly admired her character. I respect Mandy's decision however, without him, I would not have been so addicted to the show. he was pivotal to the appeal.

Giddeon leaving was the saddest for me, and then later they killed him? Like why? What was the point of messing with my heart like that😢 i love Giddeon, him and Reid are my absolute favorites.

The whole view of the show was different with Gideon. More about the evolutionary process of the criminal mind. After Gideon it was a catch a serial killer show. I prefer previous to the current. When Hotch left I watched less. Morgan left I quit watching.

Since his character’s exit, the writers have been dragging the Reid character through the mud, because he no longer has Hotch or Morgan to pull him up.

Yes, I agree - I have MISSED him and his character terribly!!! I was so excited about a week ago to turn the show on and found him doing a guest appearance! I guess it’s pretty hard to stay in a “team player” role when you are offered the lead role in another prime-time show (S.W.A.T.). From that stand point, his departure certainly makes sense, but that doesn’t make me miss Morgan any less (and I’d be lying if I didn’t fess up and say that I just plain like LOOKING at the man - he’s GORGEOUS)!!!🤪😊

I think Hotchner's departure from the show is the saddest one for me. There's no absolute goodbye, after one episode, he just disappeared the next. I was soooo wishing he will come back since Mr. Scratch died but he didn't so that was so heartbreaking for me. Next is Gideon's because he died without even having the chance to fight back. He got shot out of nowhere. So yeah. I'm on season 13 now and I'm sad that I will finish it soon but great show nonetheless

Violence is never a solution and is not acceptable. If you have a disagreement you solve it with words. To say that the writer deserved being kicked is just wrong. None of us really knows what happened on set and a writer has just as much the right to put his opinion on as the director of an episode.

Gideon was one of my favorites too, Rossi was a decent substitute but when shemar left I stopped watching, I didnt even get to Gibson being fired. Shemar leaving changed a big dynamic with the show I enjoyed. I dont even want to see past Hotch leaving the BAU

Hotch was my favorite one! I am still upset why he left. He was the one who made the Criminal Minds unique. He was a strong leader, calm and charismatic! Without Hotch I don’t find Criminal Minds is interesting anymore.
I’m glad that Lola did what was best for her but I still wish Elle had gotten a proper character arc. Her character has soooo much potential.
Mandy Patinkin ...is AMAZING! I wish his character continued but I only admire the man SO much more for his reasoning behind leaving. And the fact he left personally written notes for EVERYONE who worked with him on set and behind the scenes, only strengthens that feeling.

Top Tier: Hotch, Prentiss, Morgan, Reid, , JJ, Rossi and Garcia. They showed so much growth as a team into a family and had the right amount of lightness to their interactions to balance the darkness of the show.
I love Hotchner too and when he left I felt so sad he was the biggest part of the show.
The biggest loss for me would have to be Morgan, I used to tune in weekly just to feast my eyes on him. Hotch, Rossi, Reid, Morgan, JJ, Garcia and Prentiss are my idea of a great cast. I would really love to see Morgan come back but I will continue to watch as its a very addicting show. I LOVE THE INTENSITY of each episode!

If they brought him back I might watch it again. But since they probably won't the show isn't worth watching to me anymore. But not so much anymore. I stopped watching after Hotch left.
Hotch by far was one of the most impactful exit in my opinion. I definitely missed him on the show and should there be a reboot he needs to be back on set. Shemar Moore is my super close second because what’s the show without Derek Morgan (I loved that he was on the final episodes of the season) and of course how could we forget Gideon! He was such a brilliant character. I missed all 3 of them
Kirsten Vangsness and Matthew Gray Gubler were in all of criminal minds from start top finish, with Vangsness being recurring in season 1 and main from season 2 onwards and Gubler was in every season. With Vangsness character Penelope staying on the team until the last episode.

Thomas Gibson’s character was one of my favorite. He was calm, cool, collected and rational. I stop watching after he left.
I have never seen any show which dismissed so many lead characters so frequently. It can be the actor's false if the show dismissed one or two, but almost entire team leaved then it was definitely the show producers and writers.
For a long dark show, especially new cases on each episode, familiar faces is a must.
I was shocked after Gedion left and Hotch was the last straw for me.
The only thing keeping this show going is that they still have at least two old characters.
The show is truly not the same without Hotch, I have watched every season at least 4 times except for 12.
Once Morgan and Hotch were gone, CM lost its charm for me. Especially when Reid's storyline seemed to get off thecrails too.

Let's face it, the show has taken a nose dive in writing and storylines. It's same ole, same ole. We stopped watching it last year. They just couldn't make it work without Shamar.

It sucked that Gideon was written out of the show, but I liked Rossi and he seemed like a very fitting replacement for Gideon and also had a bit more charm and flare to him. But when I saw that Derek was written out of the show, that's what hit me the most, because alongside Reid and Garcia, Morgan was a very integral part of the BAU's personality and he just hit it out of the park with his relations with everyone on the team. It was the point where I was like "Yeah, it's never gonna be the same after Shemar left."

I guess Shemar Moore was the most upsetting, Gideon was very good at his part, but you could see he wasn't as happy. Prentiss and JJ make the show im glad their back. I liked Walker in his part and Gibson he was with the show along time and I guess he got tired of it. Criminal minds is my favorite show and I haven't missed one episode of the show. I hope it lasts another 10 years. You learn a lot from it and the actors and actresses are great at the par they play. Even the name Criminal minds makes you want to watch the show. Stay on the air, please!

JJ went from a beloved character to me to a judgemental, stuck up little hag. I guess that's just the writers but I felt like screaming at the tv when she would say something like "what kind of woman does that?" Maybe women who do not always have the same opportunities growing up.
The show has become a joke and needs to be structured a little different because it is outrageous to have these guys come in and figure it out then go get the bad guys. There is never any discussion about HOW things like this happen and it is so unbelievably inaccurate.

Mr. Patinkin's departure was the toughest for me. He was the reason I started watching Criminal Minds. I completely understand his reasoning behind leaving the show, though. It was a bit hard to watch at times. A great show nonetheless.

I cried when Derek Morgan(Shemar Moore) left. Really haven't watched it regularly since. Seen a couple episodes here and there, but not weekly like seasons 1-11. And the sadder thing is I can't get into SWAT either. No more chocolate thunder😪

For those of y’all who don’t know yes Mandy Patikan( sorry if I spelled that wrong) did leave because of the gruesome story lines but the MAIN reason he left was because he’s more of a theater guy. TV acting was not his passion. He played a strong role but he has a passion for live acting (just wanted to clear up some of these videos don’t get all the facts right , which I find wrong because they are talking about someone else’s life and choices)
I think Mandy Patinkin showed strength to stick to his beliefs. I loved him in the show, but I totally support his decision. The content was messing with him and for him to keep hold of himself, he had to get away.
