Question for Bear-a-Dise restoration Part XX, Billy Bob's arm.

- The Bear-a-dise restoration video are excellent, I liked how the arm turned out.. I was curious if the arm piece should have set of two holes instead of one? I wondered if the "retrofit" arm that wasn't done by CEI forgot to include the other hole? The second set of holes may be useful to increase the strength of the arm and reduce the wear on the aluminum by the arm stud.

You probably heard me discussing this with Tim in the last video. Well, I won that round and you'll see us putting a second hole to mount the arm..

I just checked my Billy. Mine has two holes too. But my two holes are so close together that the washers are overlapping.

connor: It does appear that there were 2 bolts there in the arm. But it appears that the relatively tight fit between the square peg and square socket gives most of the rigidity there... but s 2-nd bolt wouldnt hurt i suppose. On the other hand a single bolt looked ok too. That little plastic sleive on the wrist cylinder--- neither of us know for sure what that thing does..... our best guess is its either a mechanical stop or some kind of protective device to keep cylinder grease/oil off the furr...... If you liked this video there is another one comming where we repair fatz's arm. it was broken "clean-off" a-la clint eastwood as dirty harry!

Yes- we did add a 2-nd through bolt to the arm attach point. If I was designing it I may have
even cut a pair of rectangular steel plates about 3/16 thick to go on either side under the bolts to get a large area under compression. But I am known for overkill sometimes too :-)
It appears that the vast majoirty of mechanical failures are from the air being (way) out
of adjustment. Often times from a water filled (corroded) air selenoid valve ir just a flow
control which has frozen from corrosion and water. When they are banging hard against
the stops---- nothing will survive that for a long period of time. Stay tuned !
