I love Shelley..she is so honest and funny. Debbie Reynolds really is the girl next door. Love them both. Merv Griffin was the ideal interviewer..one of the best.
Can’t help like Shelly one of kind fo sho
Debbie Reynolds was a sweetheart.
I absolutely adored and still adore Shelley Winters. She's just amazingly honest and such a breath of fresh air.
Yes!!
Don’t you just love how Debbie longs for “the good old days” when things were so innocent and now is a disaster-in 1981!! Good thing she or Shelley didn’t live to see 2020 😳
@June Giovanna Amen. Well said.
So true..good they didn't live to see the crazy world we're having in 2020..🙄
All of her friends and colleagues were dying of AIDS.
1981 the height of heavy metal bands…
Why not just be grateful to be alive. At any time. Life is beautiful. My world is too.
This is my second in a row watching Shelley on a ‘70’s talk show and even though she comes off as scatterbrained, most of her comments are very smart and intuitive. She’s awesome and these shows always give their guests time to have a real conversation unlike the talk show of today.
I read Shelley Winters book and it was FREAKING HILARIOUS! I LAUGHED OUT LOUD!
For Shelley Winters fans, an insight into her later years can be found by a blogger here at youtube called Daze of the Lion. A young guy that grew up in Hollywood and worked as a delivery guy of a deli shop and often delivered food to her home. They became good friends and he shares interesting stories about Ms Winters as well as sharing stories of Hollywood landmarks.
That is so cool!😊
Daze with Jordan the lion is his channel. He does tell some great stories about Shelly Winters and some are sad once she passed away and he shows you where she lived. ❤
Plus, Daze with Jordan the lion is also friends with Debby Reynolds' son Todd and his wife. He has several videos about them and tells stories about thier lives too. Go check that out also.
It was great to see Shelly Winters and Debby Reynolds together on this show. Thank you for sharing this video. ❤❤❤
Shelly should have had her own Radio Show. She’s brilliant.
Debbie was really a classy LADY, been watching alot of her interviews thru quarantine. RIP Debbie. ❤❤❤❤
A lot of ladies and actresses from that era were classy, and mentally tough as nails…
Ryan don’t make Women like Debbie anymore
@@rustyruss2962 You got that right Russ! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Debbie passed a day after her daughter passed and read that she said right before passing(hope it's true)-that she could now be with Carrie. Her son said she was really stressed out about Carrie's passing.
Debbie Reynolds was so talented! A friend of mine went to junior high and early high school with her. He said that she was a wonderful girl! She could do it all!
Could, or would?
This all looks and sounds so incredible - the show; the talk; the gossip - it all sounds so great; 2021 - our 21st century
is an ugly time - I would have loved to have been part of those old Hollywood Days.
I adore Shelley
Winters, one of a kind.
I so miss these talk shows. What wonderful interviews! Merv was one of the best.
I agree and I miss these kinds of talk shows too...of course it was those wonderful people who made them so much fun to watch.
@@Apollo_Blaze Yes, true *STARS* & interesting personalities!😊
"Merv was one of the best." I don´t think so. Interrupting his guest all the time. It´s the first time I´ve seen him and found him annoying from the first minute.
I admire Shelley for putting up with all the fat shaming she had to endure. Every interview from this era makes a focal point of her weight. She was a beautiful vivacious woman and looked fantastic at this time in her life. By contrast Debbie seems smug and rude and Griffin is oblivious.
Yes, I agree,, even when Merv introduced Shelley he mentioned her weight and buck teeth ,then blah blah about Shelley's weight from Debbie?? If Shelley had wanted to she could have ripped them a new " you know what"!!
Debbie IS rude and smug. Everything I've read about her is true. She has a very annoying personality.
I agree, Debbie bringing up the diet. It was so rude but Shelly was geaceful and just said that diet wasn't for her.
Obesity and morbid obesity are major health problems in 🇺🇸. It was very sad that she let herself get in that tenuous, unhealthy situation.
I also thought Debbie was mean spirited to her. Debbie/talented/ beautiful/ but smug
She is so down to earth. A very good actress.
*Shelley:* "What I don't understand is the youth culture worship - sex symbols. [Like] Brooke Shields... she's a little girl!"
*Interviewer:* "She's gorgeous!"
*S:* "Let her be gorgeous when she's 18!"
*I:* "Juliet was 13, Romeo was 14, what d'you want?"
*S:* "But everybody died at 30 in those days. And the point is, I mean, it's great to be young, but it's also anguish... "
Props to her for criticizing the sexualization of youth and young people (especially those under 18!!!)
Agree!! Interviewer is Merv Griffin
Shelly was Magic. RIP
Merv was Amazing and Extraordinary. RIP
Terrific quarantine fare. These Merv Griffin shows you've been posting have brought back so many great memories.
Agreed.they are wonderful.
Debbie Reynolds....what a classy beauty
I really enjoyed both ladies, but (both) Mel Torme's performances were absolute perfection! What a pro, and the band was right there with him! Wish I could have seen him live.
i could listen to shelly and debbie all day. brilliant
Me too! Love this interview with these two 🤩
This was very enjoyable. I knew of Merv but can't recall I ever saw his show. Debbie is still so pretty here.
Debbie Reynolds was one gorgeous beautiful woman!
Oh Alan, I think your channel is one of my top 3 favorites on CZcams. Thank you for taking the time to share all of these great classics.
"Now, well sometimes if you have a date and the person calls up and says 'Listen, honey, I have a business meeting, let's make it tomorrow.' And you're relieved! Ahh I can take off my eyelashes and look at television. The hell with the girdle!"
What an interview. The knives are out of sight ... but you can feel their presence. Just ... woah! BTW Shelly knew exactly why Debbie wouldn't go out with Shelly's group of girls.
Both ladies bring something very special to what ever table they happen to grace. I enjoy watching these old tv shows but especially this one because all three are favorites of mine for very different reasons.
Debbie sings with amazing phrasing.
And Torme acted the last song and ended it well.
LOVE SHELLEY.❤💔
Their chemistry is amazing; this could never happen now: PR agents in the background; editing and cutting anything mildly offensive - everything is so manufactured.
What a great show- thanks so much for uploading! Watched it several times- always makes me laugh 😄 Debbie Reynolds and Shelly Winters are hilarious together 😄❤️
So wonderful to see Mel sing "Isn't it a Pity", one of my favorite songs he recorded! Thanks for sharing!
I hear him doing American Standards on WNYC FM public radio, but seeing him really showed me he acted the song very thoughtfully too. Knew he was famous for scat and for being like a vocal horn, but this shows his intelligence putting across the lyrics too.
Loved this - there is a lot going on with Shelly and Debbie - Debbie confirms in her last book working with Shelly was not a great experience.
Love that movie!what’s the matter with Helen
What did she say?
One of my fav series of interviews and Debbie and Mel sound amazing.
What memories this brings back!Seems like only yesterday and now these people
are all gone! R.I.P
2 magnificent ladies! I have always liked Debbie. But Shelley is in a class of her own. So many great movies( A Place In The Sun, The Diary Of Anne Frank, A Patch Of Blue, Alfie, etc) and Shelley is just a great actress among actresses. As well as having this special attractiveness and personality about her. I miss her so much. So many wonderful actresses I miss. Natalie Wood, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Glenda Jackson, still living well, Jane Fonda as well. But Eve Marie Saint, Vivien Leigh, Anne Bancroft, Sharon Tate, Joanne Hackett, Julie Christie and Joanne Woodward, who are both also doing well and as beautiful as ever. But Montgomery Clift, James Dean, Marlon Brando, Trevor Howard, Robert Mitchum, John Mills, Spencer Tracy, Sidney Poitier, John Cazale, Rock Hudson, Bob Hope, Paul Newman, George Kennedy, Jackie Gleason, John Wayne, James Mason are among the actors I envy and wish I could go back in time to see again. I am so glad that Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford are still here and going strong. This is classic Hollywood!!!
Have watched A Place in the Sun several times-a great movie. Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor were at the height of their beauty. Shelley was the perfect mousy GF-her attitude, voice, mannerisms, etc.
MG was great in the Heiress, too along with Olivia de Havilland. Somehow they managed to make Olivia look unattractive. Must have taken a long time in makeup.
Shelly was 61 yo in this interview! She looks great
i love Debbie Reynolds, so gorgeous till the end.
Shelly needs 400 years to live live live. Infectious.
These were truly the best talk shows,Carson, Merv,Mike Douglas, Dianna Shore, even Rosie O'Donnell's show was good. These were great stars, today These so called stars are overpaid for mediocre performances. I miss these talk shows. Thanks for posting these.
Let's just be real.. It wouldn't be Shelley Winters if she didn't talk over you! Debbie Reynolds is classy and passive aggressive, but I still love her! Mel Tormé was very polite in my opinion. RIP
Thank you so much for posting these videos. I've watched a number of them. Wouldn't it be great to go back and visit their world for awhile?
Wonderful find! I have the poster from What's the matter with Helen? My first R rated movie watched. Wasn't disappointed. Loved them both.
RIP Shelley and Debbie.
Mel has a sweet look. :)
I miss the days of "Merv". He was underrated as a talk show host.
so happy i found your channel again!!!!!!!!!!love it
I love Debbie’s sensibility. Not promiscuous , Debby knows her self and she knows what makes her happy. She loves her childr3n, she loves to sing, loves to perform. Believe as you do and be happy with it. I love Shelly , she’s got clear skin and her books are spellings Debbie says. The motivation for Shelly interrupting is to praise Debbie.
Debbie was a real sweetheart...met her in the lineup to see Elvis in Sept.1970 ...she introduced us to her daughter Carrie...here's Carrie my daughter she's 14...😊..also at the Elvis show then..Shelley Winters....he introduced her and said she's won an oscar i hate her, ha ha just kidding!!!!! I loved Shelley, what spunk she had!!! 😊
Oh this is great! Thx for uploading. Merv had great shows.
I miss talk shows like Merv, Mike Douglas and Dinah Shore. Rosie's was the closest to these glory days. The rest have sucked, including Ellen. Shelley was 61 here. She looked and acted younger.
Ellen especially sucks!!
Rosie O'Donnell was awful. I cannot stand her!
@@frothe42 I disagree. She was a great talk show host.
Loved a peek at the commercial with Richard Thomas and swoozie kurts.
Let’s Give A Shout Out to The Grreat DUKE ELLINGTON for The Songs Mel Torme initially Sung. Such A Genius Musician. DUKE ELLINGTON Should of been mentioned. Also Mel Torme was Very Dear Friends with Judy Garlands. The Dearest Friends ;] They went to All the HOLLYWOOD Parties together Mel Torme would Play Piano, Judy Garlands would Sing...Priceless ;] Folks...Shelley Winters & Debbie Reynolds are The BEST...THE BEST!! Thank you MERV...SUBLIME ;]
All these comments, and nothing about the supreme talent of Mr. Mel Torme. What a voice, second only to the Chairman of the Board. Maybe smoother? Brought music to life, and range? Unreal. I was most surprised he wasn't gay. No disrespect intended, but he didn't seem like a ladies man.
I like the way Shelley says "marning" for "morning" and "New Yark" for "New York."
LOVE this Alan! BIG Debbie Reynolds fan...
Hope you can find & post some of the Merv Griffin shows with Ann-Margret!
Mervs a good interviewer he knows when to stay out of the way and when to direct the topics. Debbie and Shelley what can one say? Real talent and real stars. No ody like that now
Debbie. Shelley and Merv were what Hollywood was the good old days
I wish they were still around that the whole family could see and enjoy
But we still have the memories
Thank God for the good old days of yesterday.
We still have the memories hope more people can watch and enjoy them for yrs, to come
John3. 16-17
A fan of yesterday. Old Hollywood and Hollywood films
From joey
She was hilarious..what a wisecrack
She's so coocoo its hilarious
These were real talk shows raw and real
I saw Shelley and Merv and met Debbie at her casino, all 3 are gone. Rest In Peace. Shelley can be found later in life on Tom Snyder, (on a different channel) where it was nice to see her. Tom is gone too, Rest In Peace. Debbie's dance studio in N. Hollywood was torn down approx 1 year ago. A vlogger i watch every vlog of his, was able to get into Debbie's studio before it was torn down and most of the memorabilia was still up, go to Daze with Jordan the Lion, he has alot of old Hollywood vlogs and Jordan does alot of research before he vlogs a location or grave. Go to Jordan's playlist. Mel is gone too, Rest In Peace. Jordan was a friend of Shelley's and has done vlogs about her, he only has nice things to say about her.
Debbie and Shelley
are both so nice, but
also , so different.☺️
Not keen on the way
Merv shouted at Shelley
when she spoke
" over " Mel...🤔...
All 4 have gone, of course,
plus Debbie's Carrie....
So sad....
Must look for Debbie
and Shelley's films...
Love Debbie's hair and
sparkly hair clips, here.
Lovely to hear all four
speaking about their
very productive lives.
Many Thanks, You Tube.
☺️🇬🇧💕🇺🇸🥀🍀🌹☺️
🇺🇦😢🇺🇦😢🇺🇦😢🇺🇦😢
I miss when tv was chill and relaxing like this...now u get emty headed celebs with no depth plsying idiotic games with ellen...
She's kind of loopy.
Nice singing
Thank you for the wonderful shows you share. Great to see Merv Griffin Show again. I wonder if you have an episode of his show from 1965 that had Buddy Hackett and Eileen Farrell. Would love to see that! Again, thanks for these.
the biography about Merv I've read makes Shelley Wnters look like mother superior in comparison:-)
Loved this clip. Mel Torme is in the group of the very next of singers.
I like Debbie. Don't make fun of my home Shelley
I love Debbie but she's being kind of hard of Shelley here haha.
I KNOW!!! I'm the size of Shelly & talk alot like her-- and if anyone treated me like Debbie treated her in front of an audience I'd 😢 cry!
@June Giovanna wow just wow! You have great wit & comebacks... I tend to get tongue tied and go blank! But yes all those things true about Debbie
Take a look at the interview where Shelley throws a glass of drink at Oliver Reed becsuse he was insulting her.
@June Giovanna So embarrassing!! Seemed quite mean to me. Puzzling.
@@anndaniels3545 Shelley is being very good natured here and Debbie is being a Bitch! I am not a big Carrie Fisher fan, but I feel for her having had Debbie Reynolds for a mother.
A lovely hour.
Fifth of July had quite the cast. Richard Thomas, Jeff Daniels, Swoozie Kurtz
Duality of Shelly. She second guesses her life choices not staying married to her first second husband. Then says she never grew up . She has a lust of life.
22:38 AMEN. Exactly right. You have to choose it, and then create it. 😇👍🏼
I think Shirley was known as very cheeky
Love Deb and Merv but damn, leave Shelly alone! Started with the intro “ She used to be thin’ comment.
Good show. I have always liked Debbie and Shelly.
.
Anybody know the EXACT date of this show in 1981 ?? I ask because Shelley Winters mentions William Holden's name (2:43 mark), and he died on November 12th of that year at 63 years of age, and though it doesn't sound like they're talking about him in the past tense, it's not absolutely clear if they are talking about him after he's passed away.
If I had to guess, I would say this probably was taped before November 12th of that year, but don't know.......does anybody else ??
.
I had the pleasure to meet and work with Debbie. I found her funny and kind . I have to say she is neither here with Shelly.
When you worked with Reynolds you should have asked her about the film she did with Winters. You'd understand her 'rude. Look up "What's the Matter with Helen" on wikipedia.
She was actually quite smart
Haha oh Debbie throwing some awkward shade over to poor Shelley. They're either really good friends and Shelley can take a ball bust or Debbie really doesn't like her.
I don't know for sure, but think they are just having fun; if they really didn't like each other, they wouldn't kid around that much. Lots of fun to see this.
Debbie said Shelley was a pain in the movie they made together. But one thinks of two sisters who deep down like each other.
I think Shelley could have balled you out but Debbie could calmly take you apart. Jxxx
It was different in those days. Things weren't taken as personally.
Read the behind the scenes story of the ladies' movie, "What's the Matter with Helen". You'll see why Debbie might have some lingering resentment. Look up the movie on Wjkipedia.
Shelly is the only one with all her marbles. Truth teller.
Shelly winters was a great actress ,i loved her . She could play any part.❤❤❤
Mel Thorme was really inconsiderate in talking about his divorces, Debbie Reynolds had to live out of her freaking car after her 2nd divorce! You could tell that Debbie was really uncomfortable when he brought it on. not all women are after their husbands money, it can be the other way around sometimes.
I absolutely LOVE Shelley, but damn she could be annoying
@Sarah Wilkesmore no argument here.
Debbie Reynolds always class Women an very Beautiful
Scary... all these people on stage are dead as a rock and gone now!
Lovely, even if Merv talks too much. Debbie (Franny) knows how to keep up.
Mel Torme was a great jazz singer. He was kind of cute when he was very young but that faded fast. He was always a lady's man. He was always chasing some blonde or trying to nail some chorus girl.
I have to say I’ve always liked Debbie Reynolds. But I’m not quite sure how to take her attitude on this show. Seems to me she’s not very nice to Shelley Winters and I don’t think it matters whether she likes her or not she could be civil to her. Shelley Winters is being very generously kind to Debbie Reynolds but it’s not reciprocated.❤️
It’s clear they knew each other a long time and they are both razzing each other. Two very authentic ladies with 0 fuks to give.
Love the old Daze
You are what you think. Want happiness give happiness.
It sounds like Debbie is being a bit catty to Shelly.
That was a nice show,, fun,, but Mel Torme!!
Debbie just Baby Doll GodBless ❤️🙏 always Loved Her they don’t make Women like Her anymore
The Mad Room.
Debbie seemed to be obsessed with Shelley's weight issues. The countless references/jokes about her eating etc; would never fly today.
They must have been plugging "What's the Matter With Helen?"
Shelly always interrupts. Debbie is is a class act. I mean she was.
Debbie: hot.
I did watch this show.Shelly was goofy. She had an affair with one actor they got together every Christmas Eve and yes he was married.
I forgot that story...William Holden.
Would like to know something about Taylor George
She plays guitar
She plays guitar
Wow, Debbie is throwing some serious shade here. I hate how much they are fat shaming Shelley, yet she's the one with the LONG list of lovers. Why are they so mean to her here??? Seriously lost some respect for Debbie.
great interview with debbie reynolds, one of her last , at the 92nd st ymca and debbie says she once went to a hollywood party and she walked into living room and shelly was sitting in chair wearing a long billowy hoop skirt, and after awhile she saw 2 very young guys come out from under her skirt." an evening with debbie reynolds" at 92nd st y, its riot, debbie tells it all in some profane language
I'm sure that was Shelley's gag.
