    Glad I have this kit. Since I have to install antennas and satellite dishes, when it comes to wiring, these tools makes the job easier and faster. My first kit I bought it in 2018 and the second kit in 2022. Best part is that I can still use my first kit, the second one is for backup. You will laugh but a few years ago I used to cut the coaxial cable with a knife.

      If someone knows what they are doing, a knife can be used to cut coaxial. It’s just that a stripping tool is more efficient, especially with repetitive cuts.

      @@Nicholas_Chris I agree. When I said “if someone knows what they are doing “, I was implying the safety consideration. Let me be clear that a knife can be dangerous for stripping a coaxial cable; use the right tool for the job.

    Thanks for this! Bought the same set on amazon after in a moment of madness cutting my cable because it was waaaaaaay too ping and would fit through the existing conduit under the floor. Chop.... yes got it through but now what?! Feeling like a winner. On my own after husband of 29 years left. Getting jobs done he never bothered to attempt. No messy cables across the floor! 🤩💪

    I got some for work after my old boss left from menards that's a good quality. I picked up a few from walmart when it was on clearance for $3. The connectors that came with the walmart one were garbage bit the compressor was identical to menards one. I've made over 100 connectors at work in the past year with new cable runs or remaking cables to clean up the rats nest. Even making cables with wire strippers and box cutters over 10 years ago it's amazing just having the right tools can help get the job done quickly and right.

    The Allen wrench adjusts blade depth so the screwdriver could be to either push the pins out for disassembly if it is thin enough or to maneuver the blades when disassembled to slide them back in using the pits of the screwdriver head.

    At 3:31 you can get a smoother result if you use a firm toothbrush to brush the strands of the braid back over the outer jacket.

    Will this kit work with Quad shield cables ?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, but quad shield has one extra layer of braided shield and foil that must be removed before a connector will fit on.

    The screwdriver could be used to push out the orange "X" to reconfigure the tool. The instructions might say something about it. I have the same kit but it didn't come with instructions.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  Před 3 měsíci

      I realized that well after I made the video. No explanation of the screwdriver in this set either. Though I doubt I’ll have to reconfigure the tool anyway. But good to know anyhow.

    Do they join with each other? Ie joining 2 cables

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  Před 10 měsíci +1

      No, for that you would need a coaxial coupler, or a barrel connector.

    I have one of these I got a week ago, Sorry i got it before I seen your video.....I have a question no idea if you can help me or not...... I have a cable that is a smaller diameter than a normal coaxial cable and these fall off because the cable is not fat enough to hold them on, Any idea how to find smaller ones to use with this type of kit? I have no clue on how to find them or even what to look for. Thanks for the nice video!

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  Před 16 dny

      Thanks so much for watching my video. Different types of coaxial cable have different thicknesses. RG59 is the thinnest; then there is RG6, this is the most common coaxial cable and is usually the best for most cable/TV antenna/satellite applications, and then finally there is RG6 Quad Shield, which is thicker. Each cable type has its own connectors that are sized to fit that cable. I would suggest going to a hardware store and looking for coaxial connectors. The packaging should specify what type of cable the connectors fit.
      Have a look at the outer jacket on the cable you have- it should say 'RG59', RG6', or 'RG6 Quad' right on it. If the cable you have is on the thinner side and not able to hold the connector on, I suspect it may be RG59 cable.
      If you can't find the connectors you need locally, try looking online. Here are some links:
      RG59: amzn.to/4fTSh1D (should work with the tool you have)
      RG59 twist-on connectors amzn.to/3Mm0Rsg (no tool needed to apply these)
      A quick video on applying twist-on connectors:
      czcams.com/video/6xG0PwiJhvQ/video.htmlsi=Wb5xBjmnuVDvlHTZ
      I hope you find what you need, thanks again for watching!
