×officer please we need explanation for Radar how adjust radar than you for your channel very useful for seafarers
Yup will tell you in short but it will b worth -
1. Before starting radar make sure u inspect scanner is clear of everything.
2. It has gain - it is basically adjusting receiving antenna sensitivity.
Sea clutter knob- to adjust clutter caused around ship due to wind. Sea clutter should not be completely eliminated as it will eliminate small targets too.
Rain clutter - used to penetrate rain drops and paint a target, it can also b used to eliminate clouds.
3. Best radar setup is true trails and relative vector as u can see past posn of ship by its trails and whether it will approach u or not will b determined by relative vector.
4. Relative motion or true motion depends on individual to individual.
5. When transiting near land / coastal - keep on ground stabilization to determine course over ground
And for collision avoidance use sea stabilization that is STW.

In RV... u hear a fog from aft the beam, ur radar not operational
As per rule 19e... Action is given for fwd of beam, not for aft of beam.
What will be the answer:
1)Maintain course and speed.
2)reduce speed or take all way off.
For MMD orals.
Your ans lies in the question itself, for her you are fwd of her beam so she will alter stbd and NOT port. So you will alter to port provided if sound of fog signal is increasing ( which means she is coming near to you )

@@SailorVikas if that vessel is overtaking us in RV then as per 19 d(2) a vessel shall not alter course to port for a vessel fwd of her beam, other than a vsl being overtaken.She shall so far as practicable overtake us from our port side only

Are ROC and close quarter situation quantified?
ROC means CPA is zero or nearly Zero, if surveyor asks you , how much near to zero, you have to say ...whatever distance COMPANY has said to follow in COMPANY'S SMS. ( for eg - OPEN SEA - MINIMUM CPA TO BE KEPT IS 2 MILES )
CLOSE QUARTER SITUATION - A situation where action by giveway vessel alone cannot avoid collision. Both the vessels has to take action to avoid collision.
Both are not quantified in COLREGs

Sir in Rv how we know that we are overtaking ? Thks sir
In RV, every vsl is a giveway vsl, so as per rules if any vsl is fwd of your beam and if ROC exists than alter Stbd as per rules. However to know if you overtaking, In RV, Radar navigation is done, so just acquire target and compare the speeds, you will kno whether you are overtaking or not.

Can ecdis(in radar overlay) be used for collision avidance ???
Radar overlay is a feature given in ecdis for position verification, thus not required for collision avoidance.
We must use radar for collision avoidance as the details of acquired ARPA target will be visible in radar and not ecdis.
Give more collision situation and how to avoid these collision by ROR rule
