- Installing Screaming Eagle spark plugs and wires on my M8 Harley Davidson Softail Sport Glide.
I was able to do this without having to take the gas tank off of the bike which saved me a few steps.
Say no to anti-seize on spark plugs. You could save a life.
👍
Good job!
Thanks!!!👍
Are you using 5/8 socket for removing the plug?
Yes 5/8 spark plug socket
There is usually some various bits of undesirable debris hidden in the plug pocket..I like a good blast of compressed air around the plug before removing it.. also it has been my experience that while red wires are appealing at first, they can turn pink with age. Not a big fan of that color on my engine.. just saying 🙈
Haha....great point! Although I do like pink, not sure that would go with the look I'm going for on my bike...🤣👍
The motorcycle parts and custom stores I shop at say don't buy the fat plug wires and only use oem plug wires and spark plugs on the m8 motors they are a waste of money and the screaming eagle plugs usually foul out and don't use iridium plugs either from theirs and customers experience.
I figured there'd be a trade off for going for style and it might be the function. Good think I kept the old plug wires. Thanks!
@@streetsean your welcome ,I buy my parts from dillon bros harley and also spaz cycle my friend at dillon bros in the parts department also told me stay with stock plugs and wires on the m8 motors ,also the guys at spaz cycle where I bought the oem spark plugs.
You really can never go wrong with OEM parts...most of the time.
@@streetsean you have a great day ride safe ,people texting and driving their cars getting really crazy
You as well!👍
you said dielectric silicone... but dielectric "grease" is an insulator and doesn't conduct electricity. It's possibly some other sort of conductive rust inhibitor.
It said it wad dielectric grease, I looked it up and it is used to prevent electrical leakage and to prevent the boot from sticking to the spark plug. So you're right it's an insulator.
Do you have to remove main fuse even if you don't completely remove tank?
To be honest, it's really just a safety thing as there isn't current going through the wires unless you are trying to start the bike. I actually unplugged it later as I forgot and then changed the sequence.
OK thanks for quick reply 🏁👍
What is that little black thing you pulled out and are showing us at 8:12?
That's the rubber "grommet" inside the spark plug socket so you don't break the plug when tightening or loosening
@@streetsean I don't think my spark plug socket has one of those. So it's not part of the bike?
I was watching your video so I could get some intel on swapping my spark plug wires. I wanted to figure out if I had to remove my gas tank or not.
@@FranBunnyFFXII nope, not part of the bike.👍👍👍
@@streetsean Thanks for your comments and video. I got my new spark plug wires on my Fat Boy 114 today. Your video was a huge help to make it so I could get it done quickly and easily. I wish I had found it sooner.
@FranBunnyFFXII Thats Awesome!!! Love the Fat Boy!!! Sweet Ride!
what is the tool you are using on top of the spark plug @ 10:25
That's a "feeler gauge", it checks the gap of the spark plugs to ensure proper spark.
@@streetsean thank you
Screaming eagle are no better than standard...it's all marketing. Lures catch fisherman
Yep and I'm attracted to shiny things...haha👍
@@streetsean I must agree 😂
He lucky that bike was off the ground the bike was in gear when he started it
The bike won’t start if it’s in gear without the clutch being pulled in (which it wasn’t).
There's always a little wheel spin when the bike is in the air, at least on my bikes
