- Hey everyone,
I made it up to Bishops Castle surrounded by The San Isabel National Forest the other day to do a further exploration of the site. I met up with a subscriber a couple weeks ago from Pueblo who showed me around the area, and we also made a quick stop up at The Castle.
Im sure I will be back up to The Castle many times, and I still need to get back to climb to that top step.
Construction started in 1969 and continued for 40 years. There have been many land battles since then with the park service and outside parties. Its a very interesting place, the amount of hard work that went into the construction is amazing. Hope you guys enjoy the video and see you on the road.
I visited the castle in '93. It has come a long way. Amazing dedication and workmanship.
The castle is really a masterpiece, you could spend all day there. Thanks for watching.
terrifying and beautiful, what a master builder.
Just an incredible structure, 40 years of construction.
Sweet castle. Everything was definitely, absolutely up to code. Aaaaaaaah
The stone structure is completely sound, but the iron work makes you question things. There’s so much to check out there, it’s mind blowing almost. Going back for the top step, you in?
The Castle is awesome! That top part though....wobble wobble. You did great!!! Very cool!
Oh yeah, totally weird and not safe. Ilove be heading back there soon.
What a BEAUTIFUL day to explore and what a very neat place! I wouldn't want to be the building inspector! No way that spiral staircase meets code! I am a bit afraid of heights but I had no problem doing Angel's Landing. Go figure... Thanks!
Oh yeah, it’s a pretty interesting place. I must go back to stand on the top step though. The iron parts are freaky, some of the areas are closed off because they wobble too much. The stone work seems pretty solid. One of these days I’ll get to angels landing.
Dude! That was awesome!
Thanks, Rick. Very cool spot. Endless photo opportunities for a fella like yourself. I have to go back for the top step.
@@TravelingThru222 sometimes you have to be less high to get more high
@@TheRickurb Getting high the old fashion way.
So,cool
Right arm, farm out.
That looked scary!
For sure, thanks for watching.
You are crazy , I don’t even like getting on an 8’ ladder ! 😂 super cool castle , must have an interesting story behind it . Keep traveling, really enjoy your videos .
Awesome, thanks for following along. The castle definitely has an interesting story, construction started in 1969 and continued for 40 years. See you on the road.
Oh wow that looks really unique!
The castle is a very interesting place, so much to see.
After 4 or so time there I’m convinced it is the sole reason for my phobia in the structural integrity of man made things! 😋
Its a pretty wild place, i'm sure I will be back. See you on top.
I hope you'll get a chance to meet some of the people who who work there. It's a disaster waiting to happen, and you're lucky you got a chance to see and share.
Such an interesting place, I’m sure I’ll be back up to the castle many times in the future.
This castle looks amazing. Do they rent this out for events or what they're doing with it? Great attraction for sure.
It’s quite a sight. I heard they rent out the big room for weddings, not sure if they do anything else there. Open everyday for tourists and visitors, the castle is free but they accept donations. Hope you have time to check it out on your Colorado adventure.
Thanks for showing us around inside there. To tell you the truth, I had to fast forward that from about the 7 minute mark to the 12 minute mark. I couldn't even watch you go up that thing. That freaked me out.
How? How did he get that stone and mortar up there? How did he get the iron up? So many things to wonder at, like did he do the wrought iron himself? One final thing. Maybe you remember. What was written on those stained glass windows? There were words on there. What did they say?
That place has so many questions, I believe Bishop was dealing with the loss of his son, and just dove into working on the castle. Pretty sure he did all the iron himself, some of it looks like it was heated and pounded in place. It’s really amazing. I think the writing on the windows are from people who have donated to the property. I’m going back to stand on the top step, stay tuned.
So they rent the upstairs room to wedding parties? With booze? What possibly could go wrong.
I had the same thought. The property is very well posted you are entering at your own risk. I would leave the water snacks and barley pops at home. Catch you on the road.
