Fans of Resurrection Band get in those comments and tell me all about it.
Resurrection Band, also known as Rez Band or REZ, was a Christian rock band formed in 1972. They were part of the Jesus People USA Christian community in Chicago and most of its members have continued in that community to this day.

resurrection band the chair - Hudba
Thanks for reviewing such a Christian classic Shane! Love you bro, go with God!
Stu Heiss is an unrecognized guitar god. And Wendy is an amazing singer. Glen is a classic rock blues legend. Great song writer... great band. I've been listening since 1986. Heaven and Hell tour was my first concert at aged 12.
Si Jimmy Page es uno de los mejores guitarristas de la historia, Stu debería estar en la misma posición, no soy un ignorante musical, Stu no tiene nada que envidiar
Yes Rez or
Resurrection band is also known as Rez band for short then and saying Resurrection all the time
Wendy is great but I like Glenn's singing better. He's one of the best in the business.
These people are horrible 😊
I met Glenn and Wendy at Peachfest in 1993. They invited me to an after party, when I showed up they were serving food to the homeless. I just spoke to Glenn in 2022 and he's still married to Wendy and performing live blues.
Glenn Kaiser is one of my favourite singers of all time! He sings so emotional and has a great variety and range!
I have attended several REZ concerts, and trust me, the are not only accomplished musicians and song writers, but also spreaders of the gospel message.
Glenn and Wendy Kaiser and the Rez band have operated a mission in inner city Chicago for over 30 years, and much of the proceeds earned from their albums goes to support the
mission, where they have fed, clothed and housed literally thousands over the years.
At their concerts, they play and sing their hearts out for an hour and a half, then Glen will teach and preach for another hour, then give an altar call to whosoever will.
I've seen young people give their lives to the Lord, as well as their parents that took them to the concert, on site. They have had a very effective ministry over the years.
THEY ARE THE REAL DEAL ! ! !
A lot of their music also is about social injustices, whether real or perceived, they do make one think.
BTW, I’m 73 years old, and STILL listen to REZ quite often. My children are all grown with families of their own, and they also still listen to them,
and their children as well.
Amen to that!!
Rez is a wonderful band and quite unique in the Christian scene. Far from the comfortable and goofy lyrics that dominate a certain evangelical sector, Rez's lyrics are always challenging and committed to social justice. That is something I will always respect and appreciate about this band.
Chair is a song that portrays the marginalized life of a person with mobility problems, who is dependent on a wheelchair. It questions to what extent disability is more social stigma and exclusion, rather than the person's own condition.
Now, if there's one album you should check out in its entirety, it's Lament. In my opinion one of the most beautiful works of art in the history of rock, without exaggeration. It is a concept album full of poetry and feeling. The search and the pain of a human being who seeks to find meaning in existence. The production of Ty Tabor is awesome and maturity of the group is evident. It is the last full studio álbum of the band. If I were to recommend a single song from that album, I'd say you must check out “Mirror”! Greetings from Costa Rica brother! 🇨🇷
when it comes to "real" lyrics Larry Norman besides being Christian rock pioneer was a lyricist that even Bob Dylan commended
@Paul Morris yeah...but sounds seriously tone deaf!
Resurrection Band is fantastic and dynamic! God has blessed thousands worldwide through them including me. Glenn Kaiser the lead vocalist is a fantastic blues artist.
Back in days gone by in high school we absolutely rocked out to the REZ band.
Was almost a brawl in the church between the Country western loving parents who thought all rock band was the devils music and the rock loving parents who thought all country music was about cheating, drinking, and fighting. Lol. We sat in the back row and loved it
Although I never met Glen Kaiser, I feel like I've known him all my life! Rockers who have been Born Again through the Love, the blood, the Death, and the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We're not only Brothers in the Lord, but we're Sons and Daughters of God our Father through Grace and Love from above. Thanks Lord, for our Brother Glen Kaiser, His wife Wendy, and all the other Brothers and Sisters who were Resurrection Band. Father God, we ask for Blessing and Favor on these Brothers and Sisters in Jesus name.
In the Toronto (Canada) area, Resurrection Band would tour every year through the 80's and I was fortunate to see them 5 or 6 times. They were one of those bands that didn't leave any energy in the tank. The quality of the live sound was exceptional. During the mid-80's and early 90's, a Toronto Band called The Daniel Band would open for Rez (or Resurrection) Band. Incidentally, the lead singer of Resurrection Band, Glen Kaiser, was a key motivator for the Daniel Band and they went on to produce 5 or 6 albums of their own. The lead singer for the Daniel Band was always compared to another Toronto Band that you may have heard of, Rush. When you have a chance, listen to 'Run From the Darkness' by The Daniel Band when you have a chance. Back to Resurrection Band, their dedication to the quality of music and the production of their albums led Rez Band to build their own studio, Tone Zone Studio, in Chicago. This studio was of very high quality and still runs today. The Rez Band's contribution to the music industry has been amazing but little is known about this. These are very humble folks and a great example to our society.
Yes Rez band... They've been in comments from a number of community members whenever we do a classic Christian rock band. Rez band was a pioneer and influence for bands to come.
Rez was the first band I'd ever seen in concert. I saw them play at a Nazarene church in Covington, KY back in 1990 while they were touring the Innocent Blood album. At this point in my life I've seen hundreds and hundreds of shows, but that first Rez show remains one of the best! These guys were quality!
Hey Shane REZ band started in 1973-2006. They had 17 albums in total ranging from Rock to Metal. The line up stayed the same throughout the years. They were a Christian mission minded band and would play concerts anywhere and everywhere. They are several documentaries made about them. They also started on of the biggest Christian music Fests in the USA. Cornerstone Fest which started in 1984-2012. Glenn Kaiser the lead singer is still doing music. His style is blues, rock and metal. His current band is called GKB (Glenn Kaiser Band)
Not exactly true. Jim Denton was their bass player until the late 80s and then Roy Montroy took over. I lived at Jesus People USA and was friends with Jim and Roy. Jim, more so but I knew Roy and played in a band called the Noise Boys with Roy once. It was an in house band that played for parties / roasts when couples were getting married.
Rez, REZ band all the same band.
Quick note. The kid on the front
The
Rez, along with Petra, are certainly well regarded as Christian rock pioneers. "Altar of Pain" and any live version "Where Roses Grow" are favorites. They definitely have videos / DVD.
Ive seen Glenn Kaiser in concert several times, but never Rez.
Regarding associated acts, Whiteheart is a favorite and "Invitation" or "Let the Kingdom Come" is a decent enough intro to the band. Whiteheart for a time ( _Freedom_ album) had players in the act who are now well regarded touring and A-list session musicians in the industry (especially if you follow Country music). I guarantee you have heard at least two of these first three multiple times.:
Gordon Kennedy - guitar
Chris McHugh - drums
Tommy Simms - bass
Also
John Knox: drums
Dann Huff - guitar
David Huff - drums
Brian Wooten - guitar
Yes! I got to see the group many moons ago! It was an outdoor concert in the middle of a parking lot at a local college. It was free! And standing right up by the stage in front of a wall of speakers! There was ringing in the ears for a day or two! It was awesome!
Resurrection Band was their original name. It later got shortened (by fans) to simply Rez Band. The Chair is a 1st person perspective of the anger and confusion of a disabled person confined full-time to a wheelchair and how so many able-bodied people look down at the disabled, feeling justified to do so simply because they've given a donation to some charity that helps the disabled. Another good Rez song you had mentioned is Military Man which addresses the PTSD that vets go thru after returning home from war. From the Rainbow's End album, a good song is Affricans. That is (as far as I know) the only anti-aparthied song recorded here in the west
While "Afrikaans" may have been the first, there have been others such as "Biko" by Peter Gabriel (1980), "Sun City" by Artists United Against Apartheid (1985) not to mention "Zuid Afrikan" by Rez (1985), which features a great guitar solo played by Glenn Kaiser.
That's AMP AMPendectomy. An unplugged version. Resurrection Band aka. Rez and REZ band go back to 1971.
The Rez band rocks, saw them live great live group. Thanks for the review.
Resurrection Band, Rez Band or Rez are the same band. They were formed in 1971 or 1972 and lasted until around 2000. They released 13 studio albums: Awaiting Your Reply (1978), Rainbow's End (1979), Colours (1980), Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore (1981), DMZ (1982), Hostage (1984), Between Heaven n Hell (1985), Silence Screams (1988), Innocent Blood (1989), Civil Rites (1991), Reach of Love (1993), Lamant (1995), Ampendomy (1997). They released 2 live albums: Bootleg (1984) and 20 Years (1992) and a Box Set in 2008. They are mostly blues based Hard Rock with the occasional Pop/New Wave song and some really intense Heavy Metal songs. They write about social issues of society like being disabled like the song you mentioned, the poor and needy, the effects of fighting in a war and the after effects many veterans struggle and go through (Military Man), etc. Lead guitar player Stu Heiss is one of the most underrated guitar players.
They are a great band and have been playing since the early 1970's. I saw them play in 1985 in Portland, Maine. Military Man and Shadows are two of my favorite songs by Rez!
I loved hearing Wendy talk about Glenn telling her that God had told him they were to start a rock band, but they were gonna sing about Jesus. The vision Glenn received was in 1972, the year I was born. I started listening to Rez in 1985. My first Rez Band album was Bootleg! I love these guys and what they do for the homeless in Chicago. Good Bless Resurrection Band! ❤
They made 8 albums under the name REZ,I saw THE RESURRECTION BAND/REZ BAND at cornerstone festival
Rez Band is the same band as Resurrection Band. And FYI, they have many more albums that have come out since Colours.
Between Heaven and Hell is a great album and also Hostage that has the hit “Crimes” on it. 😉
Glenn Kaiser the lead singer and guitarist for Rez also is a very accomplished blues guitarist and he has many solos albums out.
My fav band since this album in the 80s. I've seen them 3 times. I read that this song was about a paraplegic person that felt worthless. At the end he realizes that he has something valuable to give... Jesus' love.
Before Stryper in 84 this was my band! Still love em
Rez is a World Class band.. JPUSA JESUS PEOPLE USA
Thank You for reviewing REZ!!! Great Band, Glen Kaiser has always been a poet, always deep stories lyrically and they would sound just as great live! The album XX is a live recording. If You do a review for Holy Soldier, check out “Virtue & Vice” bass guitar punches through
Song "The Chair" Rez Band be GREAT SONG for Wounded Warriors
RESURRECTION BAND/REZ BAND,ARE THE SAME BAND, WHEN CAPITAL RECORDS SIGNED THEM UP, THEY USED THE NAME,REZ for Capital. The fans would Shout,REZ,REZ,REZ, when they left capital, they went back to THE RESURRECTION BAND
Rez Band is Resurrection Band, been a fan and follower of since the early 80's... the are truly unique, they kick butt in concert and some cool videos!
Great band, great reaction. Thank you!
I have seen Resurrection Band many times live and I recommend the later albums from the 1990's especially Lament. I had opportunity to speak with Glenn recently and he is doing very well.
COLORS by THE RESURRECTION BAND came out in 1980, MOMMY DON'T LOVE DADDY ANYMORE came out in 1981, check out their HEAVEN AND HELL by REZ a masterpiece cd
He sounds like Bob Seger.
I heard Rez Band for the first time at an outdoor concert in 1991. I thought then that they sounded old, stale, and tired. But with time their sound has grown more palatable to me.
some of their lyrics show some serious
education...I had to look up words on one of their songs...sounded like a rock college professor
I suggest pulling the lyrics on that song. It’s about how the disabled are perceived and treated in our society. Rez are one of Christian musics anchor bands that started it all like Petra, Stryper, and others. Saw them in Carson city in 1986 and was blown away. Seen Glenn perform solo stuff since and he is still amazing. Gift to the church and world.
This song is about someone who is disabled/paralyzed in a wheel chair. Read the lyrics…. I have seen these guys several times live and have spoken with Glenn a few times. These guys are not only excellent live (or were) but when it comes to their faith, they are the real deal.
Rez Band was my favourite band back in the day! Mommy Don’t Love Daddy Amymore is the first album I ever bought back in 1987!
Sean, S-E-A-N, has been rocking for God for years.
Keep on rockin' for Jesus brother!
Their album 'Lament' is just a treasure. It's a rock story. One man's life and journey and struggle and eventual triumph of faith in the Truth.
Thank you for reviewing Rez Band. I appreciate your opinion, and agree they have a 70's vibe, but one of my favorites by them "Broken Promises." It's a prodigal son story, of a man receiving Jesus' love. You can see the video on CZcams. Sorry to hear that people have been jerks to you with stupid comments. Keep rockin'. God bless you.
I saw Rez Band live in 1996.
I've only been listening to Rez since 1979. They're amazing!
Love Rez Band!
Silence Screams is arguably their best album from start to finish, but every album had songs like this that deserved mega radio play, but never got it. The world's loss. They set the table for all Christian rock afterwards, including Stryper.
Been listening to this band since the late 70’s. Great band with an awesome message!!
They were definitely my favorite band for decades and are still in the top 2 or 3. They have so many great songs, it's hard to choose from, but my favorite albums are "Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore," "Lament," "Awaiting Your Reply," and "Silence Screams/Innocent Blood" which is 2 consecutive albums but kind of plays like a double length album. Amazing band.
The kid on the front is Rick Vaughn (Williams) as he was known by when the picture was done for the album cover. He was killed in LA when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle late at night.
I’ve never heard this song before but I thought it was a very solid song. I saw them live in the 80”s and was quite impressed with them. Awesome, friendly group and very talented musically. Thx for playing this!! I’d like to see ur review of Guardian The power of Love. FYI… Barren Cross lead singer (the lead singer changed his name)now has another band called Gale Force. Maybe a review of Subhuman??
The title track for Subhuman makes that album! Not a bad song on there actually.
They are the best Christian Rock band in history. The best. No one comes close.
Resurrection Band, Rex Band or Rez....whatever name they go by they are awesome!!
So to answer you question they have albums with all three of the names I mentioned. The first albums from the '70s they went by Resurrection Band. In the early '80s they changed to Rex Band. And later went by Rez. Colours is not their last album that came out in '82.
My favorite albums would be Between Heaven n Hell and Silence Screams
Now to talk to the related artists a little...
White Heart is a pop/rock sometimes pop metal band. On a related note to this band, they recorded one of my all time favorite songs called Independence Day from the album Power House. I'll put in a request for it.
Larry Norman is a singer/song writer that started his career in the late '60s
DeGarmo & Key is a rock band that began in the late '70s. They don't play metal. Think Simon and Garfunkel but more rock.
Greg X Volz is the original singer from the band Petra. Petra went from folk rock to straight up metal by the end of their careers.
Daniel Amos is not the name of a person but the name of a band formed in the mid '70s. Christian Rock is what I would classify them as.
One Bad Pig is possibly one of the greatest Punk bands out there
Glenn Kaiser is one of the greatest blues guitarists/singer/song writers and is one of the lead singers from Resurrection Band but has several solo albums.
If and when you do Holy Soldier I really suggest the song When the Reign Comes Down from the first self titled album. Slammin Tune.
IT was always Resurrection Band or REZ.
BTW - Here are my Rez Band favorites in no particular order (Not all are heavy. You can tell the era each came from by their sound.): Zuid Afrikan, Walk On, 2000, Tears in the Rain, Broken Promises, Gameroom (from Live Bootleg), Shadows, Love Comes Down, Rain Dance, and the Glenn Kaiser voiced songs from the album Colours. I love the first half of Autograph from Colours. I've just never liked Wendy's voice.
Their "Colours" album was their 3rd studio album out of 12 and was originally released in 1980, perhaps their heaviest.
They're the band that created the Cornerstone Festival which has show cased probably most Christian bands featured on this channel.
Thank you for doing REZ they are so underrated!!!
What an understatement. Thank you so much for saying that. We know why though, don't we?
And they get criticized for the stupidest reasons, like sounding too much like other people. Nonsense, they sound better than other people.
They made 7 albums under the name THE RESURRECTION BAND, PLUS THEIR WAS SOME THE BEST OF CDS ALSO WITH ,THE RESURRECTION BAND/REZ
The Struggle is among the best of their songs.. They are a ministry JPUSA JESUS PEOPLE USA Chicago.. Glenn Kaiser is a pastor
REZ Band & Resurrection Band are one and the same band. "Rez" is short slang for Resurrection. What you need to listen to is "American Dream" off of the "Colours" album!!!
Yep they are also called REZ band
REZ, Rez Band, and Resurrection Band, are all the same band. Same band, same lineups, except over their whole career they had two bassists. Jim Denton, then Roy Montroy. Best band you never heard of. I've seen them twice, once with each bass player.
I think you got most of your questions answered. If The Chair is not your style you can try their later albums. Music for Glenn was purely the gift they used to reach out and share the love of Jesus. "Live for him, love from us" he would sign on one of the first three albums the band members signed for me. Glenn made a great effort to move with the popular music of the day. They started as Resurrection Band, a heavy metal sound that later evolved into a more progressive new age sound. The goal was always to preach the word for God through music and if that meant they had to change their sound and name to Rez to better appeal to the young people, then so be it. I can't say enough about this band and seen them every time they came to Ontario Canada or New York State, often following them to the next location.. Their music helped me get through some tough times in my life and I will be so ever grateful to them as a band and to God in leading them to create Resurrection Band in the first place. Your viewers may not be aware of this song of theirs that they never recorded - a truly original that you will not find on any of their albums czcams.com/video/jjAIuaaIDIk/video.html
The Chair would be played by Stu using his two neck guitar and the solo was done by Glenn. Glenn's solos are very distinctive from Stu's by having that fantastic rock blues style. Another song they trade off solo's is in their Bootleg album "Quite Enough" They would play that song only in concerts before it was recorded. "The Man I Used to Be" was never that lucky to get recorded - Enjoy
My good friend lived with the band at JPUSA and I got to meet Glenn there .. amazing humble guy and musically gifted as well as the other members.. Not sure if they are still part of JPUSA but im into heavier stuff but I do love this music.
Thanks for the review. I love this song and used to listen to it all the time The song is about someone handicapped C
Where Rose's Grow is an awesome blues tune and Military Man is a great hard rock song. Please play them both.
That & Aninias!
@@paulasunkel6377 Jim Denton was their vocalist on "Ananias and Sapphira" and is no longer with them, I think the only member that ever left. Have always loved that song.
Colours 1980. Rez band same group. 1978 was Awaiting your reply 1979 Rainbows end
Resurrection band is my all-time favorite band, followed by Wovenhand and 16 Horsepower. On Facebook friends with the lead singer Glenn Kaiser. The song is about somebody who is confined to a wheelchair and the despair that they have in their life until they meet Jesus.
The earpiece might mess up the vocals a little bit. Listening on my phone I could understand every word. Of course I've heard the song many times. My favorite crunchy song is Military Man.
great Review, Rez is a cornerstone in Christian rock music. They are very devoted in their ministry. looking forward to more reviews in this genre of music. keep up the good work :)
Actually the Christian rock pioneers were Larry Norman, Glass Harp, followed by Randy Stonehill, Daniel Amos, Petra, etc
Resurrection Band did come along in early 70s too tho
Lol. They're really good. Hard rock love. I did get to see them in a High School in Nova Scotia. It was so cool. A small rural community. Some churches thought their music was demonic.
Resurrection Band (aka Rez Band) is my all-time favorite Christian Rock band. They rescued me from a musical desert in 1978 with their album "Awaiting Your Reply." "Rainbow's End" and "Colours" and "DMZ" were also favorite albums of mine back in the day. As I recall, I saw them i nconcert 3 times in the'80's, and I got to hear them reunite at the Cornerstone festival about 10 or 11 years ago out in the boonies up in Illinois. I met the band members a couple of times, and I have an autographed copy of their "Rainbow's Eng" LP. 🙂
Ive been listening to them since about 79-80, Glenn Kaiser currently plays and releases a lot of Christian Blues albums under Glen Kaiser Band. Theyre awesome imo.
I have been a fan since the 80’s. Glenn Kaiser is doing blues albums.
A great album
LARRY NORMAN was one of the pioneers of Christian rock
I have see them in concert more than five times
Another good one by Resurrection Band - under "Rez," from their "Innocent Blood" album: the song, "Altar of Pain."
Resurrection Band has been one of my favorites since Rainbow’s End. Best song is Love Comes Down and was featuring in Chris White’s film Electric Jesus (music video is on CZcams).
Yes, Resurrection Band is also called REZ BAND!
Hey Shane…great review of a classic Rez Song. The song is about a disabled person in a wheelchair, talking about despair, discrimination, needing understanding. That gives you a better perspective of the lyrics.
YEAH REZ
Rez Band rocks! Music to raise the dead baby!
Awesome review! Thanks for covering this amazing band.
(btw The Chair is about a guy confined to a wheelchair)
They tried several styles-some worked, some didn't-but they always stayed true to their blues roots.
Other great songs by them:
Innocent Blood album - Altar of Pain, Where Roses Grow, Right On Time, Bargain
Mommy Don't Love album - The Crossing
Between Heaven album - Zuid Afrikan, Shadows
Hostage album - Souls For Hire, Beyond the Gun, Tears In the Rain
Rainbow's End album - Afrikaans, Paint a Picture
Colors came out in 1980. I think the 2010 was a remastered version. Great album though. Rez is the same band. They shortened the name on Hostage-1984. This is my all time favorite band and that will never change. I can listen to their music all the time.
Yes, Rez band and Resurrection band are the same band. However the band has had different member Glenn and Wendy Kaiser were the core of the Band in which they traded the role of lead vocals.Glenn is also the lead guitarist since the end of Rez he has put out several Electric/ Acoustic Blues albums under his personal name or GKB. Glenn has recently been involved in the cigar box blues revival making and selling cigar box guitars as well as releasing a Cigar Box album. In the blues world Glenn is fairly well known and held in regards with the likes of Joe Bonamassa and other modern blues artist. I would recommend checking out "Blacktop" album and the title track. Although not metal this album has a Z.Z. Tops/Cinderella/Ratt feel to the album maybe a little AC/DC mixed in there. Any how thank for the review love the appreciation of good music!
You simply must listen to REZ BAND’s “LINCOLN’s TRAIN” from Civil Rites album. Epic metal blues
That was a really great song that you missed.. the chair that he was singing about with a wheelchair. As an individual that just started using a wheelchair Hessian definitely hit home. You missed a good message to share. Maybe go back and listen to it again and then make jokes. Don't worry I subscribing to check out. You got my respect for playing that song.
They had albums in the 70s - Rainbow's End. They suffered from the low budget recordings in the early years.
I seen them in the mid-80s, there wasn't about 20 to 30 people in the crowd. They rocked anyway, even though, the promoter lost a ton of money. Not good for a rented 2500 seat auditorium.
I saw them at Cornerstone Festival 1986-1989, of course, they were the headliners.
Looking forward to that Holy Soldier review. Some track suggestions: "When the reign comes down", "Lies", "Hallow's eve", "Last Train" :-) Thanks
Alot harder music late 80's
I like this format my guy, You're a good talker
Thanks Seth!🤘🤘
Rez Band has always been a favorite of mine. One of their influences is The Who. They even covered the song Bargain on the Innocent Blood album. Good stuff.
Such an epic song!! Like Bob Segar meets AC DC. I so love this album. Played the grooves till they wore out. They were Christian who did music as an actual ministry not a Christian band seeking fame
ALIENATED by Resurrection Band is incredible.
Saw them live and they kicked ass.
Rez Band did not start Cornerstone Festival. It was all of us at Jesus People USA.
You glossed right over the best albums!! Music to Raise the Dead (74) Awaiting Your Reply (78) Rainbow's End (79) Colours (80)
No he is not talking about sitting at computer chairs! He is singing in first person from the perspective of someone confined in a wheel chair.
ive always heard of this band but never heard them..liked it very cool..singer reminds me of marc storace from krokus
Razz band after 1984 Resurrection Band before 1985. That’s what it was to me.
Rez Band has more albums.. Glenn also has several albums Glenn Kaiser Band
Fantastic.
