- I made some mistakes mixing up the 551 copper cleaning solution and I'd like to clear them up. I don't mind sharing with you when I make a mistake so you don't make the same mistakes as me.

Very nice. Here's a little tip for you after using the 551 solution. Take your standard carboy brush and clean the inside of your towers out with hot soapy water and rinse them a couple of times before doing your cleaning run. It makes a huge difference for the better. Since I use stainless steel with no column packing materials at all, I don't use the 551 solution.
Thanks for sharing the tip.
Thanks for update
You bet.
Not too many people admit their mistakes. Good Man. Good video as always
Thanks. I think sharing mistakes is as important as sharing successes.
For what it’s worth, when I wanted to clean my copper Still, I would use about 3 heaped tsp in 5 litres of warm water. And within an hour or two it would be as clean as a whistle. I still only use a Citric Acid solution to pour down through my column to clean the Copper Bubble Plates and then just give it a quick rinse afterwards.
Until this video, that's how I always did it. I didn't notice a measurable difference in the effectiveness of either method.
How many ounces does it take to clean out DC?
Why is there no talk of doing a 551 run like we do a vinegar run? Surely a 551 run would be more effective than a vinegar run?
Or is it dangerous?
Off topic from the video but I was wondering where you get the all grain sweet feed in your kits. Been trying to find a local place selling it but no one does without preservatives in it.
I get mine from a local producer that sells through our farm coop.
@@StillnTheClear I found a cob that has corn, oats, barley, molasses and soybean oil and propionic acid so just those 6 ingredients do you think it would work? Or would you be willing to sell a 50lb bag of what you have idk what shipping would be though.
@@maxsettingsgamer1 I think that cob would work fine. Shipping for a 50 lb bag is cost prohibitive.
How long does 551 last?
After making a big batch do you just pour of a few ounces to clean a scrubby for example then toss the green solution?
How I do it is I make the amount I'm going to use up. I really don't know how long it will last. Sorry I wasn't more help.
@@StillnTheClear All good 👍🏼🇦🇺
That makes sense to only make what you need,😉
I'm like you! I don't care about it looking pretty, just working right...
Yeah, I'm very practical and utilitarian.
You might try scotch bright instead of steel wool.
Thanks for the tip
At 2 hours with following the formula it works great but leaving it in too long is a bad thing as its an acid that will go to work on your copper and will etch it.
Thanks for the tip.
I would've liked to watched you nervously loosen that clamp up, not really knowing how things were going to turn out lol
Yeah, it probably was funny.
I had my COPPER STOLEN! 8/9/2022! Trust NO one!
You made a "Mistake" OMG!
Off with your head
😂😂
