Years ago while I was listening to Sirius radio, Khaled was the guest on the show and a caller called in and called Khaled out on it. Khaled couldn't handle the pressure and they hung up on the caller. I always wondered why he was called a DJ. He's no more of a DJ than Akademiks.
Based on what he’s saying, that’s pretty much old school producer approach. Typically producers were responsible for bringing artists together to make records. They didn’t need to be able to sing, play an instrument, or engineer. They just needed a good enough ear of quality and have the connections to bring the right people together to record. Maybe they knew engineering, but typically they brought someone in to do the mixing and mastering. They just issued directions to make sure the record got done. From a modern context, producers do much more today since the industry has changed. Today, the industry expects people to be artist producers. But traditionally, DJ Khalid would be considered a producer. An artist, no, he would not be considered that.

T-Pain isn't why he was poppin then and why he is popping now. DJ Khaled got popping because of his relations with other artists in general. He did the same thing tons of other DJs from 80s through 2000s did by taking songs from different rappers and putting them together on a disc, but the difference was he did it big and made it a polished album instead of a mixtape joint with old and new songs and leaks. DJ Khaled also massively helped shift attention towards the South. Some Southern rappers were already mainstream but when Khaled put out megahit after megahit from his first two albums and they all had Southern artists in the cut, it officially marked Southern rap taking the mantle from New York and going global. For most casual listeners outside the US, this was their first exposure to Southern hip hop in general.
I think what DJ Khaled does stems from the mixtape era, where the DJ was the "author" of the music and other rappers were "featured". Idea comes from a popular DJ putting rappers on their songs where the DJ played more of an "influencer" role. It's hard to grasp the concept now as after the internet that role basically became obsolete. Yet DJ Khaled still uses that medium - don't think it can last too long now
This is all so true. I been saying this for a while about Khaled but people wanna disagree. One day I look at his social media and I notice all he does is say a few feel good comments, then shows off as much as he can with shoes clothes vehicles jewelry food. Khaled you’re playing yourself out. “Congratulations u played ya self!”
I would always turn the song once I heard the DJ Khalid intro. I never liked any of that music except the Pop Star Not A Doctor song. But he figured something out many have not and that speaks volumes. I just outgrew a lot of that rap stuff. I still listen to old skool but I'm just not really feeling anything new these days in the rap/ hip hop genre besides a song here and there I'll get into.
@@SpaceAgeGenesis because he earned his right to get those type of features. In the beginning he didn't have those A-list artists (Jay-Z, Beyonce & Bieber) in his songs
DJ Khaled was putting in work in areas for artists and labels that lil gip probably thought was too small for him. After leaving the hottest underground station in Miami, he'd do the ride time shift at 99Jams running the mix show servicing the hip hop and reggae audience. After which it wasn't unusual to see him working a couple of events/parties that same evening. In the early hours of the morning, Khaled and the street team would be putting posters on cars and everything else. All in the space of one day. The reason why he's on top and relevant is because he never hates and relates to the effort it takes to be great. You would never hear the Father of Ashad talk down someone the way gip has been doing. He'd say "ya played yasef" and keep it moving on to another one. A school mate worked at the station with Khaled and called me to bring her something to eat. He was on the air and had played a record by some local guys I knew. So I took him a plate of food too. That dude thanked me profusely everytime that he saw me in Miami for years until I relocated to the A. During the hip hop awards years later, he saw me outside on the line trying to get into the strip club. "Come on Big Man, you with me and Rose'tonight." Later on he asked, "Hey Big Man, what's your name again?" That's why he's where he's at. Grateful. Hardworking. Thankful. It's " We The Best!"
Yeah bro, if Khaled did dat shit, he is da Best‼️Cause most of these niggas wouldn't even help the nigga dat use to stop niggas from beating they ass in school get in the club, so for him to remember you, and be humble enough to pull you along, speaks volumes about his character ‼️Even when Ross pussy ass was talking down on BirdMan, Khaled still gave Bird Props for even giving him the opportunity ‼️💯🙏🏾🤞🏾 #GodDid
I’m from Miami! Every time I hear a story about Khalid it’s always positive! You’ll never ever I mean ever see Khalid talk down on another person or diss them in a interview. Never! You see why the industry have love him.
So in sports terms DJ Khalid is a GM, he don’t play or coach but he puts the best teams together and let them do what they do. To his credit he gets all these folks together without any static. He has talent as a buffer to prevent egos and cash flow from stopping the show. That’s a talent, like it or not
Here’s the thing.. big name rappers have ghostwriters.. they also don’t produce their own beats, then they don’t mix and master the track, they may not produce the hook, they are not designing the artwork, they are not creating or producing the videos to their songs, they have managers who set up meetings, set up marketing shoots for various media, etc. Just because Dj Khaled did not do what Big Krit ,Tpain and Kanye did in their careers… literally the majority of these rappers did not come up like that all on their own. There is always a team.. A great beat or hook alone can carry a song or a no talent rapper. If DJ Khaled has a vision of bringing rappers x,y,z on a track, then he picked the producer who crafted the beat and it created a hit, what’s wrong with that? Give him his credit of making it happen, it took a team “We da beeest”. Gipp is hating

ACE HOOD said f that grabbed the mic... Went into his verse for Cash Flow and boom the roof blew off the building
Hes a socialistic sycophant culture vulture that is only great because of his subservience in relationships with the artist. The worse part of this is that with all these black artists who have helped him get millions of dollars without any concrete talent, would not let any black man get away with what dj Khaled has been able to get away with, never, ever. I'm not knocking dj Khaled though because he got away with it but I see it.

Now everytime I see it, which is very many, this guy's words will replay in my head.
Everything that this man is saying is so true because DJ Khalad always says in the records that We The Best and my question is what are you the best at sir because I don't hear you rapping or singing on any of the artist you work with. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
I really cant believe how not many people talk about goodie mob in the same breath as outzast?? I mean outkast obviously had WAY more success and WAY more crossover/mainstream appeal but they are just as influential and badass IMO!!
So after he finishes talking about all these people, what happens next? Is Gip going to drop an album, get to a bag? His opinion is respected but what now?
That's probably why khalid does the positive and motivational thing. He creates a friendly environment that every artist wants to be around. Otherwise, artist could easily say why would I collab with that artist through you when I can just have my agent reach out to theirs? 😂 It's literally a favor established artist are doing for him lol Khalid is a genius for creating an artistic atmosphere lol

Khalid admitted this himself years ago. That he essentially just knows people who can make a song come together, and he will at most tell them how he wants them the sing the hook ect.

Another diddy
Who's fault is that though for letting him do it?

Tpain is a wizard with hit singles. I don't think you can name another artist that was from that Era that is ad relevant right now
He still makes fire songs people just ain't paying attention like before. He's on Twitch making beats live and you can see the man workout a song in minutes. T-Pain is amazing and he doesn't get his flowers. Everybody wanted a punching bag and what they did was steal his style and then siloed him off until he fell off.
Plies!!! And plies didn’t have to go bankrupt to stay motivated in the industry. Plies was the master of singles in that time!
His style is Florida. He fell off Bc of self! He trusted the wrong ppl and made horrible purchases. He did an interview years ago when the world was looking for tpain! He went broke!
Shoot t.pain was on shawty and put plies on because they were shopping the song around but t.pain only wanted it to go to plies. Since t.pain wrote the song they had to give it to plies and the rest is history
Can’t really get behind this because most of the Dungeons early records were produced by a team and one of them couldn’t work machines and didn’t write music. Rico
Not the point. Khalid doesn’t do shit or contribute
@@jbpcow2212 if you know the history of Rico he doesn’t touch anything he and Khalid is similar that was my point in saying that and he tried to use that as one of his points.

DJ Khaled is not even a DJ by industry standards lol
He doesn’t write, produce, or actually master or arrange music Lol

It’s why social media is in our faces at all times.

I’m this case it’s mysic production and lyrics written.
They want you to accept whoever they push as a musical genius and have you parrot those same ideas about them.
I don’t conform to worldly standards so I have no issue seeing that he’s an imposter.
He can’t play a note or write a verse lol
Y’all can praise that I won’t
Yeah, and Rick Rubin doesn't engineer or play instruments either. He's still a real producer, unlike Khaled.
Really stupid comparison buddy.
All y’all talking about what DJ Khalid use to do but ain’t done in 20yrs
I still can't believe T-Pain is only 38. Akon discovered him as a teenager?...what did he visit one strip club and write I'm in love with a stripper? I remember listening to Akon's first album on my Sony walkman.
Lol, damn Gipp! Why he got smoke for everyone that’s successful…why the hate tho fam? How can he hate on Khalid, whose whole brand is WE the Best and he helped the south stay on fire over past 15-20 years? Don’t he got Ceelo on a song?
Cause he's GARBAGE
Because Khalid is overrated just like LeBalding James and most people are tired of the BS
@@keithen8708 what makes LeBron over rated... Explain?
Years ago while I was listening to Sirius radio, Khaled was the guest on the show and a caller called in and called Khaled out on it. Khaled couldn't handle the pressure and they hung up on the caller. I always wondered why he was called a DJ. He's no more of a DJ than Akademiks.
Oh he's a real DJ w DJ skills, doing his thing since the 90s. These days he's a hype man for his "productions"
I feel the same way when people try to say the best rappers are somebody who don't rap their own lyrics. U can't do that
"I'm So Hood" is what did it for Khaled

We Takin Over was the one in my opinion

Yet DJ Khaled still uses that medium - don't think it can last too long now
Waiting for him to say but khaled and tpain better than jayz
Dude, there's a storm trooper eyeballing you in the background!

So in sports terms DJ Khalid is a GM, he don’t play or coach but he puts the best teams together and let them do what they do. To his credit he gets all these folks together without any static. He has talent as a buffer to prevent egos and cash flow from stopping the show. That’s a talent, like it or not
Keep talkin that sht GIPP! Much love my g.
The best at putting a record together that is DJ khaled's that's the best name I've ever heard for him
Here’s the thing.. big name rappers have ghostwriters.. they also don’t produce their own beats, then they don’t mix and master the track, they may not produce the hook, they are not designing the artwork, they are not creating or producing the videos to their songs, they have managers who set up meetings, set up marketing shoots for various media, etc.
