New York Noise, Love it! I have a niece who was totally into Band Of Horses when they came out. She saw them a few times when they played in Seattle where they're from.

Steve, you could be today’s Rodney Bingenheimer. I think we’ve talk about him and before and how he discovered Dramarama and helped make them an MTV hit.
I’m probably hitting bands now that bring me nostalgia and I don’t give unknown bands a chance, with the exception of Ghost and Rival Sons.

i never got into Night Flight for some reason. it seems like something i shouldve been watching. i think maybe cause we didnt get cable until 1987 and once i got cable i was all consumed with catching up on my MTV viewing that i didnt bother with anything else.

I have never heard of New York Noise. I know a few of these bands in passing (like Camera Obscura and Stephen Malkmus), and I have that Black Lips CD, one CD from Band of Horses, and one LP from Titus Andronicus. The rest are totally new to me. Sounds like it was a very interesting show.

Can you find that show on the net? Sons and Daughters, Peter Bjorn & John, Matt & Kim, and Band of Horse are the only ones that I own. Some great music, especially Band of Horses. I've seen them a couple times.

Hi Steve. We talked about 'New York Noise' a few months ago. I've been enjoying dipping into their CZcams channel. We've never had anything like it on UK TV. The closest things were probably 'So It Goes' presented by Tony Wilson on ITV Granada, 'Snub TV on BBC 2, and 'The Tube' presented by Jools Holland and Paula Yates on Channel 4. 'The Tube' had a similar anarchic spirit to 'New York Noise' ... There were a few cringe-worthy youth-oriented shows on the BBC and Channel 4 in the late 70s and 80s which at least featured some then-underground bands playing live, but you had to sit though some crud in order to get to the good stuff - for example, Joy Division on 'Something Else' and Public Image Limited on 'Check It Out'. There is at least a rich history of quality radio programmes on BBC radio. Part of the remit of the BBC is to provide a platform for new and emerging musicians ... Some excellent bands you show here ... Stephen Malkmus is OK, but the early material by Pavement is excellent ... I show 'O' by Tilly And The Wall in my latest video. That's a coincidence, as I can't recall anyone ever showing them on a CZcams video ... Metronomy have a new single out called 'Nice Town'. They've built up an impressive discography.

wow that’s cool that you dug into some of those New York Noise videos Carl. I never expect anyone to follow my lead so I’m glad to hear ya did. When you talk about cringeworthy youth-oriented shows in 70s & 80s ya know my mind instantly goes to Nozin’ Aroun’ on the Young Ones. Yeh! Right! Shock! Hahaha. The best. I think I kinda lost track of Metronomy after English Riviera. I’ll have to do some catching up. I do now have some early Pavement. They were always a band I heard of but never heard for whatever reason. And yes funny coincidence about Till & The Wall. Thanks again for checking in Carl. Appreciate it.
(by the way i forgot i was wearing my Broadway Video shirt in the video hahah.)

@@STEVEHEROLD When I made my comment about youth TV, I wasn't thinking of The Young Ones, but I instantly knew what you were going to say in your reply. The Young Ones helped put the final nail in the coffin for those well-meaning but bad programmes aimed at young people ... Metronomy started with a splash in the UK, with sold out club shows and lots of music press interest. They are still doing worthwhile material. I need to do some catching up too. The last CD I got of them was 'Love Letters', the album after 'The English Riviera' ... Pavement's 'Slanted And Enchanted' album is the one I love. Cheers!
