It’s not a real triplex transmission. Nothing special here. It’s just a 13/18 speed. Far left is splitter. Middle is shifter. Far right is range hi/lo.
A little insight as to the mentality of the people that designed it, make it complicated and sell it as something superior, no one else has this equipment as soon as you hear that head the other direction if no one else has it it’s probably for good reason .
Everything he was doing with three sticks can be done with one. I can drive a two stick 5 and 4 with anyone, but why when it isnt needed. The last 4 x 4 I drove was air shift and that was over 40 years ago. There is a reason they no longer make shit like that. Back when a 250 hp truck was a hot rod, and you needed to keep the engine wound up, you saw lots of triplexes 5 x 3, 4 x 4, and 5 x 4s. Today the two stick types are pointless and even having two boxes us pointless in most applications. Just something else to work on rather than driving, which after all us where you make money.
yeah its a 18 with the switches as sticks. i dont know why hes shifting with two hands. guess he wants to look cool. if he ever has a blowout while shifting he wont do it again. The left stick is hi/lo the middle is gear and the right is splitter
Lot of work shifting when you could do it with one stick, high low button and a spitter button. If you what to be Billie big rigger put a 5 and a 4 in your truck, you'll have 2 sticks, 20 forward gears and 4 reverse gears.
I like the Billy Big Rigger, hadn't heard it for a while. A long time ago I put two sticks on a Chevy 3speed manual because I couldn't afford a shifter and the original column one was broken and inoperable. It worked but it was inconvenient, I ran the two stick trucks before they had power, wasn't that cool then, inconvenient.
Its actually simple than you think, the stick on the left is the splitter, the one in the middle is the main shifter and its the layout as a normal 18 speed, the one on the far right is the one puts it in the higher and lower gears
I like the set up. Looks like a 13 speed or an 18 and you're just not splitting the bottom half. With that said, you don't have to pull the main stick out to split, but I understand it makes the video look a little cooler.
He was driving it like a eaton 13 speed, based on my previous experience. He didn't have to pull the stick out in high range, but it definitely makes it look cool.
I pull out on the 13 speed I drive, if the splitter has a leak and the gear engagement is weak, the extra pressure of leaving it in gear sometimes misses a shift. If I pull it to neutral then split it never misses. Idk the technical reason for it but I'm guessing air leak in my splitter circuit causing weak engagement. But it does have a purpose in select scenarios lol
Just a 18 speed with a stick for hi lo and direct and overdrive not a true twin stick or triple stick not like a 5x4 a 6x4 4x4 quadrupled. Or a old Mack with a 5 hi lo with a 3 way brownie that was a true triple stick 3 transmissions under her.
