  • The microwave was without outside fan. But in the attic I found old roof ventilation cap. Looks like there was some ventilation hood long time ago. So, no problem to make a couple holes and install a vent pipe. Material:

    In the world of DIY microwave-exhaust-fan videos this one got me though the project step-by-step painlessly. (If I had to hear one more guy drone on about how to flip the fan around on the microwave for external exhaust I was going to gack.) Great video. Very informative. Thanks for posting!

      Except, like many other You Tube videos, this gives bad advice. Building codes specify smooth galvanized steel, copper or stainless tubing for kitchen exhaust. Flex tubing is not used.

      @Bruce Bremer It is totally harmless the use of flex pipe in this case. Building codes a lot of the times are just dumb picky codes.

    I've seen a lot of these microwaves and none of them ever vented outside, nor did they ever get filter replacements. They just gave the illusion of ventilation. So seeing one actually vent outside, is just incredible to me.

    Question: Isn't it better to use a rigid galvanized steel pipe for venting thru the cabinet and another in the roof attic? Wouldn't there be less hinderance and smoother flow this way?....

    • @FixitAll
      @FixitAll  Před rokem

      Yes, the standard smooth pipes always be better. But reasonable only if the air line has some turns, elbows. But its hard to connect especially between some existing pipes or roof cap like in this video.
      I used flex pipe becouse it straight to the roof, and nothing stops or turbulence the air.

      Its depend on wall or ceiling constriction, joist position. Some times its passable to get thru the ceiling and after sheetrock turn to the outside wall, some times directly in to wall behind the stove.

    I normally run 4"x12" wall stack duct threw the cabinet and then use a 4"×12"to 4"round boot in the attic . Then box the duct in the cabinet off so you don't see the duct . Also hear in Michigan I put a foam seal between the microwave and cabinet so cold air doesn't leak out and believe me it will here . I had to go back and fix it .
