I like the new intro! Nice little boost MPPT charge controller.
Glad you liked the intro! Definitely a good little controller! Appreciate you!
That’s so cool, I had no idea that you could do that! Thanks so much ❤ Loved the new intro and cool logo keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate you!
That is neat! I didn't know they made such. Thanks for sharing the links and for showing how it works.
Definitely a great item for folks with 24V and up systems! Good controller to utilize spare/oddball panels and get some charge from them! Appreciate you! 👍
I was looking at one of those solar charge controllers but this is the first review of one that I have come across.
Hopefully it was helpful! Good little controller for sure!
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD Definitely helpful. Now I know it is worth buying.
Thank you
You’re most welcome! 👍
Nice.
Thanks!😊
Eco-Worthy has a good boost inverter.
I had considered them but the price point was too high for my taste!
I got one for $35 @@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
Sorry, I slipped, meant Renogys controller which is $100+. I was unaware eco worthy had one now! Thanks for the heads up!
Question. When charging a battery you should use a pure sine wave inverter to protect the battery. What type of current does it make?
Charging as in using an inverter to power up a 120v to 12v switch mode or dc power supply to the battery?
If using a switch mode charger, they aren’t too picky about incoming voltage on the ac side. Some charger models have better dc ripple smoothing capacitors/rectifiers etc.
Iota Engineering has bulletproof battery chargers I can recommend them if looking for clean low ripple DC outputs. Very tolerant of dirty/fluctuating AC side power.
I charged an E-bike battery with a similar one, put 200W into it, the mains power brick only did 80W
👍
Great video!!! Will a single 12V 50Watt panel power this boost controller?
Yes it will!
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD that’s great news thank you so much! I am trying to set up a solar charging station for my boat trolling motor battery as no power where boat is at. It’s a 36v 60Ah LiFePo battery. Want to keep the setup low key so found a compact 12v 50w panel with the DIY MPPT charger on Amazon…it is the 400W one but that should be ok as it is the only limit for the wattage correct?
You are correct, 400w is max input, you’ll be fine!
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD thanks for the reply!!! I subscribed to your channel as I want to do more solar stuff so thanks for all the info! One last question if you don’t mind. With the solar panel and boost controller, I want to keep them close together and run cables from the controller to my battery. Should I install a 15 amp inline fuse between the controller and battery, the run will be about 8-10 ft so I am thinking 10 or 12 gauge wire would be sufficient? And lastly is it ok to use the alligator style clamps on the battery or should it be a solid connection with a disconnect?
I always recommend using proper OCPD. As for wire size, bigger is better with DC power. The small 50W panel should be capable of only 2 to 3A under perfect conditions. Connecting to battery is your choice. If left unattended a permanent connection is usually recommended. Hope this helps!
Could you use the battery pack while you were charging it? Or is that determined by the specific battery pack?
Yes you can pull from the battery while charging or if battery is full the boost charger will maintain the pack up to it’s rated power same as any other charger! Hope this helps!
Does this charge controller cause RFI on the HF or VHF bands?
Untested.
Sounds like a good thing to test/check for going forward!
Hi good morning can it work with a wind turbine
I’ve not tested on a turbine. This would not replace the rectifier on a turbine.
Unsure if the choppy DC out of the bridge rectifier would upset this unit. 17V minimum input on this boost controller. Sorry I can’t help more.
Thanks very much
