I love his voice. I still remember him saying " Holly, i love you. You belong to me" to the lovely Audrey in the last scene of " Breakfast at Tiffany's. What a great film.
George Peppard was a handsome man, white teeth, and his political party was Democrat. Peppard overcame a serious alcohol problem in 1978, and subsequently became heavily involved in helping other alcoholics. He had smoked three packs of cigarettes a day for most of his life until he quit after being diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992. His illness never forced his retirement from acting. He grew old quickly and only died at 65 years old. He is probably best known for his role as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, the cigar-chomping leader of a renegade commando squad, in the 1980s television show The A-Team. He is a legend - R.I.P George Peppard
JOE - I think there was more to it than that- Robert Vaughn, who joined the cast during the final season, also clearly did not like Mr T and called him insane. Also, Mr T complained if he had too much dialogue and would state that he wasn’t an actor. I loved Mr T but I can understand the friction.
A lot of that was from Wikipedia lol.. But yeah, I love him. Of course also known for Breakfast At Tiffany’s with Audrey Hepburn. Still sad he passed away so early.
Breakfast at Tiffany's was certainly Audrey's movie but man was George Peppard an elegant man! You can tell he had talent and some charm, it's too bad his career didn't quite live up to BAT. Nonetheless he is a good example to emulate if you are into that early 60's Ivy League fashion sense...
Peppard restores my faith in humanity. In his younger days he was notorious for egomania, affairs, and alcoholism. Later on he quit booze, became a great sponsor to many fellow AA members, and took part in lots of charitable activities. Maybe there is hope for humans...
Cuando lo conocí yo tenía 13 años 😍😍😍 y el ya había partido de este mundo 😔😔😔 aún así me encanta mi coronel John Aníbal Smith 🙏 RIP gracias X💯 PRE George peppard ❤️
George Peppard is so great a mean when he talks and moves his eyes are so funny and great hes a real invidual and a great actor. A-Team is just great. Hes so funny and a great person if i could travel through the time and aound i would take my dad back and eating and drinking a Coke with mr George Peppard. You re so great it seems just every word that he speaks are chosen with greatnes and akcent that can litteraly no one so much greatnes loving your A Team and movies because you re a trully hero of A Team.
He shot the pilot for Dynasty as Blake Carrington but got fired and replaced by John Forsythe but then got the roll that revived his career in the A team worked out OK for him ..
The Vice Pres at the college I went to looked alot like George and acted like him to: type A personality, leader, strong personality, over-achiever. We call him Hannibal sometimes and he says "I love it when a plan comes together." It's great. :)
One of my heroes growing up...got a raw deal with Hollywood deserved bigger roles... Dont have actors like him around R.I.P George my 9 year old nephew idolises you since I showed him the pilot of the a team.... Good role model for kids...gone not forgotten
I read ...not sure how true it is... but I read he was turning down some roles that were linked to him being a leading man in romantic comedies like Breakfast at Tiffanys, so he took on westerns etc... which I think worked against him ultimately.
Hannibal came out with some killer lines in the A-Team. my favourite was always, ''we gotta hide this plane murdock, This plane sticks out like a fly on a wedding cake!!! :-D LOL
Mine is....the next time pal when you think you wanna take someone out dont get a squad you wanna get yourself a team...lights his cigar just after then theres an explosion right behind him....lol
Back in 1968, I was studying acting in Hollywood and working as a chauffeur for celebrities. I was sent to be interviewed by George Peppard and Elizabeth Ashley, at their home in Laurel Canyon. At that time, George was being fitted for suits by his custom tailor while I sat in his living room waiting for our interview. George sat in his recliner and I sat across from him. He opened a bottle of Scotch whiskey and poured a drink for both of us. (On the rocks, no ice)! He lit a cigarillo and I smoked my camels while we discussed the possibility of me being his personal assistant and chauffeur. We both finished the bottle of Scotch and George opened another one. During the discussion, I asked George why he wasn't considered a "super-star" like Newman and McQueen. His answer: "...look, I never fit in with the so-called in-crowed in Hollywood, and I try to stay on the outside of that club. That's why they snub me...." After a couple of hours of conversation; we both were feeling the booze and I admitted to George that I had ambitions of being an actor like him one day. Obviously I didn't get the job, but George gave me advice on starting out in the business of Hollywood. We were both former Marines and we became good friends from that point on. They would invite me over for dinner. To be honest; I regret not taking the job and exposing my true feelings to him about my aspirations of being an actor like him.
his hairstyle never changed since 1961! and he kept it all, always a plus for a man getting into middle age. Its odd to watch someone smoke on a tv chat show, it was the norm then I guess, given that Peppard died of complications due to lung cancer it would seem quite ominous, but he made some super films, The Blue Max, The Executioner, Operation Crossbow to name a few.
Having a strange "Deja vu" moment. In Barcelona for business this week, turned on the hotel TV to randomly find a rerun of "El Equipo A" playing on one of the local stations. Have a laugh about the dubbed voices. Decide to look for George Peppard interview on YT. The first one I find is this one with him..talking about a trip he took to Barcelona... 😅
This is the first I have heard of LaBrie. I imagine a successful furniture salesmen with an avid love for movies created a public access show. He could afford to pay stars to come to his furniture store in Sacramento for five minutes of work.
I'll always remember George from 'The A-team'. When he died, a lot of people went to his funeral to pay their last respects. they include: George's immediate family Stephen Cannell Dirk Benedict Dwight Schultz Mr. T Rip Torn Lance Le Gault Jack Ging Robert Vaughn This is only a partial list. there may be more.
Wonder why Dirk & Dwight didn't go. That is really strange. From what they've said those 2 got along fine with him. A band of brothers Dirk called them 4.
George Peppard was in the film’Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. Which is a pretty significant Hollywood film when the industry was in its prime unlike the crap that it generically churns out today! (Even Americans don’t bother to defend it). I wonder if he got fed up with people mostly recognising his work from the A Team in the same way Alec Guinness was annoyed at only being associated with Star Wars when he’d produced much better body of work such as ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ etc.
I have got movie DVDS of George Pepper with Rock Hudson and Nigel Green in Tobruk with Michael York and John Mills in The Night Of The Fox I am dedicating these movie DVDS of George Pepper to my old school friends who are both sisters and I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester Brand from Billyxxxxx
Very missed actor as many others :-( My favorite movies starring Peppard's - Operation Crossbow - Tobruk - Tiffany's Breakfast And of course - The A-Team Glad VHS and DVD exist to watch over and over that show again.
'Operation Crossbow' is a surprisingly dark and gritty war film for a big budget, star cast film of that time. It's stark in what happens to the characters, especially Sophie Loren and Tom Courtney. It's a strong film and the special effects climax has been raided repeatedly for stock footage in other films (even being used in 'Damnation Alley' with Peppard himself).

The downside and hypocrisy of NBC is baffling. The A-Team series could only go so far with violence in not allowing any deaths within every episode.I have thought about this for years.During the run of The A-Team,NBC also aired shows such as the weekly "V" series (84-85) and probably NBC's best series ever- Miami Vice (84-89). The A-Team was a show that everyone in the family could enjoy. Shows like that don't exist any more. So everybody sits apart watching their own stuff on their own little screens and nobody sits together any more.
