Thanks for sharing your travel journal kit! It's definitely inspired me to get my art supplies organized into one little take and go bag. I have something already but I don't go anywhere, and it's always tempting to let things just spill out and live on the kitchen table, which is a crazy mess right now due to my art habits!
I have been looking all over for your video for travel storage for journaling. I finally found 2 of yours. Thank you!! I love the way you organized your bag. It's hard to believe that all of the art supplies fit inside of it. I think you need to call it your "Mary Poppins" bag lol. Thank you so much for sharing, I really appreciate the ideas!!! : ) Flower
Love this bag. It fits so much stuff! Very helpful to see what you put in your bag. Laughed so much at your TSA Bertha comment and your pokey tool/family comments. LOVE all your videos! TFS
I know you filmed this 4 years ago but I'm just seeing it now. You have some great ideas for things to take. I'm putting together a travel journaling kit and I found an old diaper bag to use. It's got lots of pockets and they're mostly plastic lined. Works great!
Thanks Kimberly! The only advice I can give for plane prepping is to check the TSA website for current carry-on restrictions. Most liquids should be okay as long as they're the right size and inside a ziploc baggie. Scissors and pokey tools will probably have to be checked but they allow knitting needles so....?
it took me 20 minutes to pick out a black pen at AC Moore Friday. I got one you don't have in your bag, The Pigma Micron 05. I had used them years ago for signing my quilts. A pen is never just a pen...... And I really like your bag, it looked like suede, very soft.
Thank you Cynnthea! That's not a bad idea actually. I will plan a video on pens or doodling or something like that and show how each of them writes. And maybe use the footage I deleted from this one where my favorite Copic Multiliner leaked all over my hand :( I use white pens on occasion but not as often as a lot of other folks do. There are probably some great ones out there that I don't even know about.
Susi, both of the journals in this kit are store bought Moleskines. All of my doodle journals are Moleskine sketchbooks. The paper is perfect, the binding is perfect, I just don't see any need to try to improve on perfection when it comes to my doodle journal. The travel journal in this kit is a Moleskine cahier, which is another of my favorite store bought journals. It has lightweight paper that's not really suitable for painting which is why I prepped it with gesso ahead of time.
Great kit! You have a bit of everything, which is a good thing, and even better because its all in on bag! One question, is your journal a store bought one, or home made?
OMG, we are so alike... I salvaged the edge of Avery label pages last night because when you finished pulling the labels off the page you are left with a page length piece of blank label that I felt would make really nice Washi strips. LOL They are blank and perfect for your own designs. I use the wax paper backing from the label pages to do art on as well.
Hi Shannon, I came back for a second look at how and what you pack for traveling. I have a question, what about taking a small pair of scissors? I want to take on my Honey Bee Cutters. (They r my fav) I am sure I should pack my pokey tool. What about paints, Gesso, Gel mediums??? I would be unhappy to have to throw something out that I could have checked. Any advice for plane prepping??? I enjoyed watching the 2nd time as much as the 1st. Thanks again.
This is the second time I watched this. There's this designer that makes leather bags like this with the hand made designs on the front. probably made by starving Haitians or something. Your army navy store canvas bag with your own drawings is better. She gets 400$ apiece for hers. Put that lady out of business ; ) Seriously.
Shannon Green I have a travel sketching kit but it's smaller. it is OK to put a link to it? I guess I don't have to really LOL I only have four videos that shouldn't be too hard for you to find it. I have been trying to prep my paper and just draw on the prepped paper so I only need the drawing instruments and sometimes I will occasionally bring a glue stick and some small photos if I feel like I want to add photos to the page I'm working on while I'm out. the coolest thing I have in there is a little watercolor kit and a watercolor brush. I have this tiny 10 color Winsor Newton kit that's really cute. I lost one of the pans recently, but I used an old squeeze tube of watercolor and squeeze that same color back into the square and just let it dry in there so I have 10 colors again yay!
Great kit! I love how you stamp images on tissue paper instead of bringing the stamps themselves. Great tip!

Bertha.....Funny!!!!! I enjoy your vids so much. I might just film my art bag too! tfs Hugs~Lisa
Maybe that's why I don't take long vacations! I am happy to say that I uses a lot of the stuff I took and ended up with a completed journal!
I did. It was an army surplus bag with that eagle/bird image thing on the front and I doodled around it.
