I started out as a union painter apprentice fast forward 3 years became a journeyman. Plus another 18 years and several large scale faux projects i evolved to be a faux painter. I have to tell you but that is really good and if i had to copy your work w/o watching your video i would have used oil glaze , pigments ,sponges,feathers and art brushes. You created awesomeness in minutes compared to my several hours and most likely wont even come out as good as that piece...lol
I have my own tricks from years of field experience but i always crave to learn new ones. I sometimes train apprentices who has potential to be a faux painter , i lost count on ( i cant wait to have the same skills as you) comment. I always tell them i am not the most skilled and i just like them are still learning and this video just proved that. What an awesome job and thank you for sharing. I too have problem walking away from projects, it sounds silly but i just cant do it cause it needs just one more color here and maybe there 😩

Honestly i dont even consider myself an artist i just enjoy doing faux painting. I didnt really care much for it starting out but the lead painter liked the work i did so i got stuck on that project. I remember him saying in faux business either you can paint or you aint...lol

Such a dynamic look...guess the key is to play...practice...and tons of sample boards to find signature looks. I know you believe MORE is More.. I think I need to be more brave and add Tons of fine layers to get all the depth and dimension that create this authentic look. Doesn't look 'hard' - just need to play 'confidently' with colors and techniques. Awesome as always Rhonda & RK3💙

Lady, that is awesome. You have that ''WOW'' effect down pat. I don't know what the cost difference would be between real stone and the way you just did the imitation stone. But, you get a better effect that's more controllable. Doing what you did in this creation. You took a lot of variables out that you could not do with real stone. Real stone can be weak with natural fractures through out it's structure and cause premature failure that could cost thousands to remove stone and then replace it. With doing what you just have shown eliminates all that. Thank you for the upload. It was appreciated by me a lot. This is the process I'm going to use to create my grandson grave headstone.

That is downright gorgeous! I love the depth you created and the colors are so amazing together. Very cool use of the Montana spray paint at the end. I've seen that done on a simple background, but on this more complex one, your results are dynamite! Great job!

Floors are definitely something you can do with epoxy. You’ll use a different formula of epoxy. Stonecoat has a flooring epoxy as well. I don’t do floors, so I’m not the one to help you. SCC has flooring tutorials on their channel 😊
Really nice. Natural look and colors. ❤️. Would you be interested in trying a natural soap stone faux look in layered translucent grays with warm and cool color blends incorporated? I saw an inspiration piece and it was beautifully deep, subtle and low sheen. I would finish edges with a rough look.

I would use the same colors but add an orange/ burnt orange and or a burgundy might add in also a moss green

I have watched this video several times as I research techniques prior to refinishing my sofa tabletop. TBH, I cannot wrap my head around how random it starts out with you just drizzling some shades of browns onto white epoxy, and then a short time later it becomes an absolute masterpiece. Almost surreal and so beautiful. Question : did you pour a clear coat of epoxy over the piece once the first step cured? If yes, how long to wait from finishing the colors and alcohols until final coating? I love this piece and am adding this video to my “saves” for future reference. Hoping you’ll do one in shades of grays- kind of marble-like in the future. WOW!!!
Lori Minior that’s one of my favorite things about epoxy is not to judge it too quickly and let it move and become beautiful!!! It’s hard to not just keep playing and playing 😂. Yes, I will flood coat this sample. I want at least 12 hours or so before I flood. I’m working on a technique with gray tones. 😊

I am looking to do my countertops, and would like to do them in white with a little bit of silver and gray. However, I don't want to just do marble. I would like for it to be like granite or stone with layers of various whites (pearl, flat, glitter, metalic). Would you be able to do a demo board to give me an idea of what I could do?

Amazing technique. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. I am planning a countertop and island project (over the top of p-lam) in my kitchen. I am awaiting delivery of my SCC materials. My vision is to develop a color palette based on something similar to New Venetian Gold Granite. The technique in this video is similar to this; however the colors would be more gold/black/gray/cream with rust/wine dots. Do you have any suggestions regarding colors and techniques?
On a personal note, I saw you in SCC video and I am so sorry to hear of your health problems. It is ironic because I have been off work since last May, due to a tri-malleolar ankle fracture with many complications. I have gone DIY crazy in my house and created some beautiful things. Although I haven't epoxied my toilet seats yet. I hope to one day attend one of your workshops when I am well enough to travel. Thank you again for sharing your talents.
Thank you so much for your feedback. Actually, if I were trying to create the Gold Granite, I would almost do a bagged granite technique. I'll be posting that technique on a granite finish in a couple of weeks. It may give you more control over your colors.

Hi Rhonda. I think this just might be the one for our kitchen! How could we duplicate that over about 51 sq ft?
Just use 3 oz/sq ft of epoxy and randomly apply the colors. I would do some sample boards to practice first 😊

Hi Rhonda , We just finished our counter top Saturday about 5 pm.
It came out absolutely beautiful thank you for all the information we are really happy with it. Buf i have one more question. We wanted to put a clear top coat but I believe sanding is out of the question because it appears alot of the marble effect is on top. Can we pour a clear without sanding if we are wuth in our 24 hr period? Thanks again for all the help. Ps: tell your fans DONT torch the edges lol
I think you’ll be fine pouring without sanding. Just be sure you clean it well 😊
Super love this! Since the brown base tint isn't available anymore, what would you suggest to replace it?
You could use the Alumillite Brown opaque dye that’s on my website www.rk3designs.com
@@RK3Designs in this finish you already used the Aluminite brown - the brown base tint was the other shade of brown.
Can you show the final cured results? Obviously it's going to 'spread' more as it flows over the edges. Also, did you run the heat over it any more after it was done?

What is your working time on a design like this? I’ve only done a bar top so far, but I ran into problems spraying alcohol too late in the project. Next up are countertops and I dont want to make that mistake again. By the way, this is a beautiful design.
Paul Barton I worked on this piece a good 40 minutes. If you get dimples from using alcohol too late in the pour, most of the time they disappear once the flood coat is poured. 😊

I put down the color coat on a countertop, but after 3 days, there are sticky spots... I may have used too much spray paint or maybe worked too late in the process or used too much alcohol. Stickiness hasn’t seemed to improve even after I tried to wipe off as much as possible in sticky areas. I did mix my Stonecoat epoxy according to directions. If I do a clear coat on the entire top will it leave a smooth and hard surface anyway?
You should be fine with a top coat. Also you may want to try the new Ultimate top coat SCC just came out with. It’s amazing.

Putting the camera above your workspace rather than in front of you would really help.
How long did you walk away after you sprayed the paint and then the alcohol? Great job BTW! Looks fantastic
Stephanie Van Doorn about 15 minutes or so, but it will depend on the temperature of your workspace.
Will the epoxy cure with do much spray paint? Is it just normal graffiti spray paint?
Are all your spray paints rustolium and does it matter if flat or gloss
Yes. I’ve had the best results with Rustolium. I use Gloss when available and also satin. No flat or matte. 😊

I use the white opaque dye by Alumilite that Stonecoat sells. It awesome!! A very little goes a long way.
Very good work but I think the problem is can you repeat the same board after a few days if someone ask you to do the same drowning at several borders
Temo Samny I’ve actually recreated this finish several times. It never comes out exactly the same, but very very similar.
@@RK3Designs We make artificial marble such as sinks and bathtubs as well as fiberglass As for fiberglass, we make steel-reinforced fiber baths from the edges and 3D tiles that are used in decorations, but we have always been faced with the problem of drawing colors. You can never repeat creativity twice.
The cool thing is, real stone is never the same either. Every slab is different and I think nature is the best test of creativity. 😊.

I don't know how many times I've watched this thinking this is it, it's what I want for my counter tops. Then I start wondering if a dirty pour would be better. Maybe. Still not sure.

I'm getting ready to do my countertops; I've already order my stuff from Stonecoat but I'm not sure which way to go. Dirty pour, or do the granite. Like you, I keep wondering how far I can really go. Want to give it a try?

So the silly string stuff just sits on top of the epoxy?
It will work it’s way down a little, but for the most part will stay on top. This is why you need to for sure put a flood coat.

Can you reuse the cups?
Connie Loftice Bowman you can reuse the thick plastic cups. When I’m done, I’ll turn the cup upside down and the next day you just peel it out.
