- This is the first part of a little series I'll record with the Tasty Chips Electronics GR-1. I loooove granular synthesis and this machine is a beast! I'm just scratching the surface here, so I'll definitely record some more videos in the future where I'll be using more complex settings (and the modular of course!). Enjooooy!

I Love the function of this little machine. I toy with sampling and I am looking to go from Software to Hardware. I think this will be a good option. Thanks 4 the Upload !

I think I’m gonna order one of these. Your video tipped me over the edge. I’ve been interested in it since it came out, I’ve wanted it since last year, I just sold a synth and now have the money but I was originally gonna do some other stuff with it, but I decided to look at the GR-1 again and I saw your video. It all sounds wonderful but the piece at 13:13 is my fav. Also dig the overexposed vibe for the talking. It reminds me of one of the space station 5 scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Very appropriate for synthesizer!

Hi Megan, I have a GR-1 since a whie... I have a question: Overall, I love it, but there is one thing that "bothers" me, that is, that when one makes it play few grains, it starts to become rhytmical (around 6:25 for example). Is there a way, according to you, that it can trigger the grains more randomly? I thought I ever found an option, but don't know anymore... Groetjes uit België
Hi Axel! Well at 06:25 I have two LFO’s at work which make it rhythmical. If you turn the encoders counter clockwise they shouldn’t do anything and the grains should trigger randomly 😃 Or do you have it connected to MIDI?
@@MeganLeber Hello!!! Thank you for your time. Inknoe the LFO's make it quite rhytmical, but even without LFO, it's quite rhytmical when playing few grains... I added a random LFO to the density, but without it's predictable... Not clocked on midi... I have to lookup what the different grain respaw options do... Maybe they make it more "random".
@@Freakydile I actually know what you mean now yes, good idea to put a random LFO on it! Other than that I’m not sure (yet) how to change that. You can ask on the Facebook group for GR-1 users maybe (don’t have fb myself)?
Cool demo, looking forward to the next one(s)! Do you prepare your samples before loading them in the GR-1? For example EQ out some of the lows?
Thanks Terry! I usually don’t, I just pick the samples I made of which I think are suitable to “granulize” (so with not too much low end) 😃

Thanks! 🙏🏼 I think it’s really sturdy actually, the aluminium casing looks an feels really good and strong. Faders and encoders also feel good to me, so yes I’m happy with it :)

The first shocking thing I heard was stereo. Why is it in stereo? Are you post processing with effects? Is there a ping/pong delay in the unit or post processed?
Hi! The GR-1 has a pan spray parameter, which controls how much the grain’s stereo panning is randomised :) so just like the Digitakt 1 for example, it can sound stereo with the use of panning. (+ as I mention in my video, I added some Toraverb.) Enjoy your week!
Seems to play a lot more like an instrument when compared to any eurorack module
Yeah it does! You can also hook up a MIDI keyboard and play it 👌🏼
Nice machine and nice looking hardware but in every video i watch it always end up doing the same thing, that digital ambient drone.
