- Disney Star Wars The Acolyte Episode 8. I am starting to sound like a broken record but this whole series causes me to lower expectations on an episode by episode basis because it just gets worse and worse.
The finale is more of the same. The stated goal was to Subvert the idea of the Jedi, the achieved Goal? The subversion of all things star wars.
They have made it so that ALL of the Star Wars universe and story that fans know and love ultimately was caused by the events of this absolute disaster of a series.
In this video, we take a look at the finale (thank Christ its over) and the themes and issues that are raised.

That's mate, I think halo was the first series that I started reviewing solo as I used to do it with a friend but he didn't have time to continue so I struck out on my own.
It's another awful show but I'd still watch it over the acolyte.
I hope so too, I need to find my next thing to review before rings of power comes out next month. 3 episodes at once is going to be rough though lol.

I am *glad* that this show is so *badly* written.
Reason: This show has a sublime messaging included, that Headland obviouuly wanted to be in the show -- this messaging is: "Good is evil and evil is good".
Headland said it even herself in one interview, that she wanted to lift the stigma on the bad guys. That is a clear announcement what she wants to tell us and what she wants to inprint into society. Not what Lucas or Disney tought the people, that the Good wins, but that evil is the same as good -- just a matter of perspective.
And that is the reason, I am glad, that the writing is bad, because than the messaging has less chance to infect more people.

You can’t even say that it’s written for kids (even though material written for children still has sensible plot devices and progression) because they sexualized the antagonist and a supporting character 😅 (or maybe, considering Headland’s background, it _was_ written for kids…)
Well headland was weinsteins personal assistant so who knows.
Your definately right though children's shows show a higher caliber of writing than this show.
It genuinely feels likes it's a show written by idiots for idiots.
It's a shame this show is over.... the memes got better as the show got worse.
If the show got much worse the memes might not have any relevance.... although the viewership of this show has been driven largely by youtubers. And I'd hazard a guess that the youtubers covering this might have collectively had a larger viewership than the show itself.

Couldn't have said it better. In no way is it star wars other than appearance.
And yet disney will almost certainly renew it..... because it fits the message they are pushing and they have money to burn apparently.
Could fans write something better...? Lets see!
*Step 1:*
Doing a series completely disconnected from the oversaturated Rise of Empire/Age of Rebellion? Great! Lets not connect our story to the old core lore. No talk about "Chosen One", no "Sith Rise To Power", no "Vergence" and no "Prophecy". We do our own thing - no need to be tied to the "future lore"!
*Step 2:*
What is the story about: Well, duh! Acolyte - a young Sith apprentice. We want depiction of how someone becomes enthralled by the Dark Side. We want to invoke in the viewer the idea of "if you were in this situation, what would you do?" "What would it take for you to fall to the Dark side?". Make it relatable!
*Step 3:*
Get deeper into Sith philosophy. It's not all about hate, anger and toxic love. You can access the Dark Side through a number of emotions - even the positive ones, as long as they're strong enough and uncontrolled. And once you're there, the Dark Side itself starts to corrupt you. (Frodo + Ring / Gollum + Ring).
*Step 4:*
How do we present the Jedi in the show? Since our protagonist is a Sith, Jedi must be shown as a threat... but it is a systemic threat. Evilness of the Jedi comes from their dogmatic, one-sided view of the Force - not from the fact they're morally corrupt, incompetent or deceitful.
Tragedy of the Jedi Order comes from the fact they tried to do the "right thing" but their best intentions only furthered their demise. They became so dogmatic and disconnected they failed to see the threat behind the Clone Wars. Lets use that theme again but on a different, smaller, personal scale.
*Step 5:*
Story - act 1 - "How to Sith?" act 2 - "Jedi investigation" act 3 - "No lose ends!"
Act 1 provides exposition and creates bond with the main character(s).
Act 2 introduces conflict with the Jedi investigating the use of the Dark Side by main character(s).
Act 3 final confrontation, everybody dies.
*Step 6:*
Borrow from Old EU in subtle ways. Use themes and ideas, not characters and quotes. ( Darth Plagueis, Darth Bane, KOTORs, SWTOR,)
*Step 7:*
Have a "fish out of water" character that asks questions on behalf of the audience.
*Step 8:*
Release a catchy meme song like "Darth Plagueis in the cave!" -(note to self: don't let actors produce diss tracks instead)-
*Step 9:*
... get mixed reviews and be criticized by everyone by A) not being 100% EU accurate B) Not being 100% different from EU.
*Step 10:*
Get back to writing ambitious fanfics nobody reads.
I couldn't help but laugh when I read this but I think a true fan could write something better than this.
At the very least they would know enough about the core story not to take a dump on it and call it gravy like this show does.
Star wars has been "subverting star wars" since a new hope when Obi wan lied to Luke about vader being his father.
How exactly do you mean.
The nuance of the prequels as even obi wan explains is that as far as he was concerned anakin died when he became darth vader. So it's not so much a lie as it is not a whole truth.
Either way that does not subvert star wars, it doesn't undermine the essence of star wars or the entire story of star wars.
This show does because they have now predicated everything that comes afterwards on this show. The events of everything are dependant on what happens in this show and how genuinely moronic every single character is shown to be.
And I'd argue to the cows come home that that undermines the established universe of star wars rather than build upon it because if we are being honest the entirety of star wars, including what I think is good star wars (prequels and OT) have now been canonical linked to the worst (by a decent margin) that disney starwars has offered.
Is that a problem? Not really because this show isn't star wars.... its a cheap knock off that smells and looks a bit like starwars but it doesn't act like star wars nor does it capture the magic of storytelling like what came before disneys purchase.
Star wars is dead. Disney killed it and this god awful show was just an attempt to appropriate the causes of the events of films which, at this rate, will always surpass anything disney can create.

@JustinWillisDevil240Z This is Gaslighting and a personal attack on a whole other level. Heightening yourself by showing fake compassion to verbally piss on a person. Must be this new all inclusive Generation and Audience that is talked about.
And for the show, it's focus group are people on the intellectual level of an 8 year old loving twilight fan fiction that is constantly fiddling with it's phone so things have to be repeated constantly.
A friend of mine had a stroke, he can genuinely enjoy that show, because it is so inclusive a person with just half a working brain can follow it. I cannot enjoy it. It is spoonfed garbage. Watch the last season of the Expanse, it cost the same, has working DEI characters that are enjoyable because they are defined by more than just they preferences and gender and the dialogue is not something that is aimed at lobotomized beings. That is how shows are done. Acolyte is a bad ripoff in which I am constantly asking myself where the f... The money for the show went. Not into writing, costumes or makeup.

Your right it can't, but disney did its best with willow to make it so. And I would be more than happy if they gave this show, ashoka boba fett etc the willow treatment.
Either you need to get with the programme or accept star wars is dead. Things will never improve with Disney at the helm.
There's no getting with the programme, Its not even how Subversive the concept of the series is.... its just a badly written half thought out idea what lacks even the basic building blocks of a reasonable narrative.
Id rather just go back to the 80's and 90's and rewatch all of the amazing films from there than watch this rubbish and being honest if i wasnt reviewing it i would have checked out way earlier in the series.
