  • Today we started planting the Strawberries! This is my First year growing strawberries so I'm very. we to this. We are growing them on a raised bed that is covered with black plastic. This method is called Plasticulure strawberries! The reason we chose to follow this growing system is because it is most effective and most profitable! We are using a Water Wheel Transplanter to plant the strawberry plugs in the soil. Today we only planted 1800 plugs. We had to water the rest so we put them in the Greenhouse!

We just planted 6000 plants three weeks ago by hand. Our plants consists of a root and crown. This is my 5th year doing it. My in-laws, however, have been doing it since the sixties. They were actual full time farmers here in Poteet who would plant much more than I can ever handle.

Thanks for posting. This was cool to watch. I used to live in Plant City FL aka strawberry capital of the world. And I would see them ride on the back of these tractors planting. I really wanted to see how it worked but didnt know the farmers well enough to ask, plus they seemed busy and focused. lol. I also think they used bare root.they seem to lay there for a day or two and they ran sprinklers non stop . Yours seem to much healthier coming from a plug.

Chandler/us patent 5262/a California release finding itself adaptable to the East and Midwest, using many different producing systems including matted row. A high yielding variety producing large fruit and to be well adapted to southern regions. Zones 5-8. Cool!

looks like you be better off letting the tractor make the holes and place the H2O in a continuous run and have people walking behind putting in the plants, so the tractor doesn't have to keep stopping. This would make your time more efficient.
