Unbelievable animations from the past.

I am a person who is studying the design elements and scenes used in movies. I've collected some cool and unique scenes and designs that can be overlooked but learnable.
☆
It's not a work that I made. Therefore, I will not generate revenue from this video.

These old masters understood weight, texture, and light. Limitations in technology actually gave them an environment and impetus to create better animation than we have today.
Agree with you bro, 80% of new anime sucks
yes, stuff taking forever to produce means that you have the time to think it through as your'e working. today the mind is occupied by navigating the software interface
Akira is overflowing with rich designs. It's almost a shame we don't get to see more of those Bikes. The clown gang is so underutilized, but that just goes to show how many awesome ideas are in this movie. I hope the TV series that is in production turns out well - I'm worried the digital animation won't be able to capture the super gritty world of Neo Tokyo like real paints on celluloid could.
Cel lighting goes harder than anything else in anime
Read the Manga, some character get more depth there and the clown gangs get their own spotlight.
1:17 just look how worn and scraped that tank looks. today it would just be an even color without any dents or other details. this looks like it has actually been through some shit. love it
reminds me of cowboy bepop
It really does makes the universe feel that much more lived-in, I love it!
like if it was already used during WW3 , then reused
the aesthetics of Akira is timeless... even more than 30 years later
This is amazing for something that came out on the 80's, the vehicle design is so ahead of its time, that's still hold up even today and looks believable for the near futur. many modern AAA games are using those styles as references ! The key here is minimalistic overall shapes and very busy stuff within ...
The story and the power sold me in it for me. The characters seems to be much the reason it went well.. the anime I liked not forgettin , was off kill bill. The Lucy Liu seen. . cool .
look at that crisp animation. i miss the good old anime days
Not every anime of that time had that level of quality
@@thirien59 even today
@@sirbachelorboredmen1314 that's what he was saying: it's all about how much money you spend on it. "old anime looked better" is a myth, most of the old anime didn't even look half this good, it was only a handful of good ones that became classics and everyone saw. There are some anime today that are superior in every way to the best looking old anime of the 80's and 90's.
@@Palora01 Only because of cgi… 🧐
@@Marv_0815 only because of cgi what ?
Those laser rifles will always make an impression on me.
Remember how bold anime studios are willing to go back then.
Not with gore, but with the weapons, military equipment.
Compare with today, it's looks like something else completely.
today seems like isekai is the trend everywhere
@@in9836 Most of them are crap.
@@in9836 they seriously need to ban trucks in japan or something
With gore too! The good old stuff like Genocyber, Midori or Legend of the Overfiend is nowhere to be found. Sure, Hirugashi has blood, but no detail at all; it is impossible to imagine a contemporary anime studio spending time and frames on eyeballs and guts. 80s anime is where mangled corpses are.
Attack on Titan tho
The tank commander (2:10) must have been screaming "Back it up!" several times to his driver. Can you imagine being inside a tank and falling god knows how far down? Unless you're from the A-Team then yeah, those guys would know.
And I bet the driver had that engine right up against the speed governor and had the steering controls pulled back as hard as he could and yelling to the tank “come on, faster!”
Those bullpup rifles remind me alot of the EM-2. I never looked at them in great detail when watching this film.
They remind me more of an LA86
@@epicassassin8502 You're mixing together two different names for the same rifle. SA80 was the project name for the development effort (Small Arms for the 1980s = SA80), and L86 is the actual military service designation for the weapon. Specifically, L86 is the light machine gun version, and L85 is the standard rifle. It's kind of like what "AR-15" is to "M16"; the former is the name the manufacturer gave it during development, the latter is the designation the military gave to the variant accepted for service.
And speaking of mixing up things, I actually think that the design of the rifle in Akira was made by mixing together the EM-2 and L85 designs. The green furniture and SUSAT-styled optic is a particularly obvious nod to the L85. Buttstock shape and ribbed forend shape are taken directly from the EM-2.
@@bronco5334 ok I
@@bronco5334 I have a sneaking suspision it's not the SA80 or the EM2 or even a combination of the two. I recon it resembles the XL60, a early prototype of the SA80 but quite cosmetically different, notably the vertical groves on the front handguard and the shape of the magwell are what make me think it's the XL60.

I love collections of stuff people find interesting. If its design or animation doesn't matter this is always cool. Thanks for sharing to the class :)
I know this is cliche, but Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell have some of the best realized gun designs as well.
Love how the Soldiers use what looks like the L85A1 or some early model of it
Gosh the animation on some OG Animes are just out of this world, they look better than most Animes or animated films in general
If you spend the money and take the time you can get some great looking things.
Otomo was a perfectionnist
This kind of anime is exactly the reason why stopped watching anime. But it’s not what you think.
Anime like this was so awesome, loved watching it when I was a kid. They just don’t seem to make anime like Akira anymore. They all just follow the typical tropes, like the protagonist being way overpowered, and well… just being disconnected from reality by too much… It’s all “ProtAgoNist soO StrOnG, AntagOniSt meAn dooDoO head. ProTagOniSt haS nO GuTs tO mAkE mOve on CruSh”… fuck all that. Show me the violence.
Same. I also miss the older shows with more philosophical and esoteric themes, which are barely made today because they don't sell like the typical shonen, shoujo or whatever genre-of-the-week is popular at the moment.
Same-ish... there is a certain feel, (even IF CG Was used in one way or another) that can't be replicated today with modern CG models) for example, one of the most iconic animations, is the SDF-1 coming out of the shadows, of a planet( jupiter?) in macross 84.
They didn’t know the JGSDF would buy the Osprey instead of upgrading CH46
Or that the L85 would be a dog of a gun once they actually began mass production.
Damn. I need to rewatch Akira now.
Please make more of these videos. Especially about neon genesis evangelion
It has been more than 30 years and it still seems that this film will never get old.
This is so epic. Idk of they can even do this now…
Love the music in your video. Can we get a credit, please?
Akira doesn't get old
Great video - it reminded me of those domed autonomous killer robots that came out later in the manga. I don't think they were in the movie unfortunately. They scared the bejeezus out of me when I first saw what they did.
Ah you mean the ball on wheels that zap ppl to death? A shame we dont see them.
quick question:should i read the manga?
@@claymoreroomba2921 I would definitely read it. Get the black and white version and not the coloured one (which was Dark Horse, I think). It's a way more complex and involved story than the movie. Similar to Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind - the movie is like a trailer to the actual long-format story, which is epic.
@@h3lldiv3r Yeah, those are the ones. I was waiting to see them in the movie when it came out, but given that the movie truncates the story by a 1/3rd, it's not a big surprise.
@@richardyasushiii3848 thanks bro

One of the best anime ever
THe musics has a mysterious vibe to it, very cool
Golden age of cell animation
I'd love to see a similar montage for the Megazone 23 series.
Every frame of this was drawn by hand, think about that.
And they did this without google as reference.......
グレネードランチャーみたいなの好き
I love animation as a storytelling format it opens so many possibilities up. Fromxa purely animation perspective there as some amazing films like into the spiderverse, your name, the transformers movie but nothing ive seen has come close to the absolute jaw dropping animation in akira. The realistic movements the attention to detail in every frame definetly an animation milestone few have been able to live up to
No animes like this anymore 😢😢😢😢😢
Masterpiece
This is awesome
Is that you, Tetsuo?
Rather funny to see Neo-Tokyo soldiers wielding what look like slightly modified SA80/L86 rifles.
I bloody love this artwork!!
Those poor soldiers, forced to use the SA80 :(
lol they probably only use them to deal with civil unrest.
In my incredibly biased opinion I'd say they were lucky to use a British rifle.
@@madmus_meale7884 Having shot the L98A1 (cadet version of the SA80) a few times I'd say they weren't, lol
its not even a SA80 its a fictionalised version of the EM2 and its a random anime who cares if its bad

Incredible ! !🏍
As impressive as this movie was the manga was leagues above

1988, unreal.
Good old hand drawn cell animation...none of this overly blown out CGI crap...
What is the song please?
Who would win: the entire military force of neo tokyo, or a big headed baby?
Do weapon design for Jin-Roh next!
太多细节了!
Always wondered at 3:04 why he flinched at the recoil when shooting his desert eagle. A career soldier should shoot in a more controlled way than that?
He's shooting while his back is kissing the floor, what weight will dampens that recoil?
This inspired the Tokio Subway Nerve Gas Attack.
That’s nice. People are inspired by tons of things every day.
2:03 they used the same satellite death Ray design in the animated show invincible with Omni man, I’ve also seen the same concept in one of the early 2000s James Bond movies, I think it was die another day
A guy mysteriously disappeared at 2:10 while running to see what's happening

What the playing song in the video?
A film from 1998 puts 80% of today’s animation to absolute shame.
1988
In my opinion.. Even 1988 animation far away better from nowaday anime..
Detailed on stuff not as wild as now..
Neon Genesis Eva have good precision detailed for all gear and weapon.. But in Rebuild you got "future Alien" Design For all gear and weapon
i forgot what they where even fighting can anybody tell me?

I wish this would come back. Now everything has to be pushed out fast to make more money. Seems it’s less about art now.
