Absolute perfection by Debbie Wiseman and the musicians, so engaging and atmospheric. I have arranged this piece to be played 1 day at my funeral as I am also addicted to Tudor history. The BBC did a brilliant job casting the role of Cromwell, Mark Rylance is a phenominal actor portraying the role so well.
J'adore cette série, tout y est magnifique. Les acteurs et leur jeu, les décors, les costumes et la musique.

Absolute masterpiece
The continual strings are the relentless modernization of England driven by Cromwell. The woodwind is Cromwell the man, who gives so much to the country, the mandolin is Anne and the kettledrum is Henry, the storm that ends all.

Superb score, especially the repeated woodwind melody which inserts 16th century atmosphere amidst the sinister musical theme. And then the mandolin sings its brief song. Is the mandolin Anne Boleyn? The woodwind Cromwell? The augur of tragedy enters with the insistent kettledrum. The sudden silence in the middle of the theme. The sword has final say.
Eileen Pollock in this case it’s a score not a soundtrack.
A soundtrack would be a selection of chosen songs vs a score which is musical tracks composed specifically for the film/series

Brilliantly haunting music by Debbie Wiseman. All those wonderful instruments and that build up to the sudden end. Debbie Wiseman is a genius.

Leo McKern was brilliant as Cromwell in “A Man For All Seasons” (1966) and he looks like the portrait of Cromwell. Mark’s performance is completely different than Leo’s but once I got used to Mark’s subtlety I fell in love with his portrayal as well. Each actor has a completely different approach to Cromwell’s personality. I hope there is a Season 2.

This, when I feel I need rest sends me to sleep. Wonderful DW...the irony is that Henry VIII reign was anything but restful for many other poor souls. if you haven't read the book Trilogy by Hilary M, I highly recommend it.
A big apology to Damian Lewis who took the role of King Henry VIII and was totally magnificent too, a fantastic portrayal Damian, thankyou.

Will Mark Rylance come back for Wolf Hall season 2?
Rylance said that he would return. Heaven forbid that someone else would even dare to replace him! That would be an abomination! Let’s face it, Rylance IS Cromwell. When I read or hear anything about Cromwell Rylance’s face automatically comes to mind. Henry VIII in his middle years will always look like Damian Lewis too. The casting was absolutely brilliant and so spot on.

I like Mark Rylance as an actor, however he's not Cromwell- doesn't seem to be the same man as portrayed in the painting of Cromwell.
I disagree. He’s perfect for this role.
How can you possible know what a person is like from a painting, unless you mean strictly the physical looks, in which case who cares? You're watching a multiple hour long story. I'll take a great actor who looks nothing like the real person over a mediocre doppelganger any day.
There is something here in the composition that borrows from Nirvana..the arrangement can’t put my finger on it😊
