    The cataract surgery really made me cry. I am in the medical field. I've seen someone get open heart surgery done before (the rib cutting made me squeamish, but the rest was cool), but ANYTHING that has to do with eyes or teeth, I'm OUT!!!! I wear contacts, which was a feat in its own for me to do, but I've always thought about Lasik... and Jack, NO SHE'S NOT ASLEEP!!! She's sedated to be loopy and out of it, but she can't be asleep because of REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement). The eye drops were to numb the eye. She is away,but loopy as all hell. THAT IS WHY I DO NOT WANT LASIK I DON'T WANT TO SEE THE SCALPEL COME TOWARDS MY EYE NOOOOPE

    • @TheCountessAsuka

      Ex-scrub here. I've had multiple eye surgeries done on me, which is why eyes were my surgical out. I would do any other type of surgery (specialized in podiatry and maxiofacial) but no eyes.
      Also, you are very correct about her being awake and able to follow directions, but she was loopy like when they pull wisdom teeth in America. She will have minimal memory of the surgery, if any at all.

I had a nasal surgery about 3 years back and they gave me a sedative beforehand to calm me down because I have anxiety and it was my first surgery. I felt great, I was more relaxed than I’d ever been in my life lol. I’d imagine that the sedatives they give for these kinds of surgeries are even stronger than that.

    Cataract surgery is done while awake because they need you to say if there is pain and such. You get a sedative to make you relaxed and calm. Mom had it done. There was a guard to reduce where the head can try to move, but they tell you to hold still. Once things get so close, she said you couldn't really see it, but you can feel all the pressure. They can fix astigmatism at the same time. And it meant Mom didn't need glasses to see any more except for reading after wearing glasses for around 40 years for everything.

Not sure if this will help solve any questions on how they stop the eye from moving but different surgeons have different methods from 'clamping' to extreme numbing

    Sean, surprisingly they have been doing cataract surgery since the ancient Egyptian area. They of course had less advanced tools and no anesthesia, but the tool concept and shapes are essentially the same! They did something call "Couching" the cataract, which is where they just push the cataract into the globe(eye). You wouldn't be able to see anything once it is completed, but they thought it was a better life than living with a cataract.
    As for never having to get things done to your eye, unfortunately almost every person above the age of 50-55 starts to lose their near vision. It's very rare that someone won't develop a cataract in their old age!
    Love, your neighborhood ophthalmology student!
    Like this so Sean can see it!

    Oh, man. This reminded me of a really funny story:
    In my Creative Writing class of senior year, there was this one kid who had a pen that opened at the press of a button, like a transformer. When my English teacher saw it in action, she said it looked like a speculum (now that I think about it, I might've been the one who said that). He didn't know what that was, so she explained it as a tool specifically used to open the vagina during a pap smear. He gagged, and everyone laughed their asses off! I teased him endlessly whenever he used that pen.

      @cameronbottoms1118 Před 6 lety +24

      Here i got you, Atleast when i had my braces put on it was they used glue that tastes bad and metal with some wire. To start off they clean your teeth and start to put glue on your teeth and attach your bracket. They’ll run a wire through the brackets and if there is any stabbing you in my back please tell them. Make sure you don’t eat hard foods for 3ish days because you’ll hate yourself afterwards. It’s as easy as that. Don’t worry about it i had my braces from 3rd-7th grade so i know what it’s like.

    • @jordynfs2000
      @jordynfs2000 Před 6 lety +7

      GreyedHavens forgot one thing. They have to keep ur teeth perfectly dry and that can get kinda uncomfortable but nothing too unbearable. The plastic things they use to keep ur mouth open can hurt a bit and saliva builds uo so its super gross when they take it out. Theres also the chance of a bumper which is just rubber they put to keep ur tooth from pushing off a bracket. They hurt for about a week aftet u get them but once you get used to them they dont hurt until u go for an appointment and they start messing with them. Then random days of pain. They're not bad but be honest if u have a wire hurting you because I wasnt and I have a wire tearing apart my cheek rn 😣

    • @saratuggle1878
      @saratuggle1878 Před 6 lety +1

      Blob 101 all they do is very quickly pop the brackets from your teeth and take them out. If removing brackets have ever hurt before like replacing them it won't hurt this time like expected then they just clean you up and get your impressions for your retainers and you're golden. It's very quick
