Great review and amazing handwriting! The close-up writing bit was a joy to watch. I am now definitely getting one! Greeting from Belgium!
Thanks for this review! I never would have believed it if you hadn't made the video!
I got this pen for my birthday, christmas and new year as a present! So psyched! Only Appelboom didn't have them anymore. Found one in London. And I could choose a bottle of ink as well, so I chose 3 different colours. Thrilled with your review but since I have it already, I was looking forward to the writing sample. You did not disappoint. Well done!👍
Great review! I love mine! It is a modern flex FP done right!!
Hi, nice channel! I just bought a 149 flex nib and added a bottle of Black Elixir Calligraphy ink. I filled my pen with it and after 24 hours I cleaned it. No issues at all. No clogging or problems. The pen is brand new and the lukewarm water comes out pretty transparent after the 5th step of cleaning . Definitely will use it again!
Great review of a very nice but very expensive calligraphy pen. Your handwriting skills really help demonstrate what this pen can do.
Wow! Beautiful, beautiful pen. Especially the flex nib!! Nice review. Your handwriting is amazing 🤤😍
Wow this is a stunning pen and that nib is insane!
I tried this montblonc and the Scribo Flex. They are extremely similar, absolutely astonishing
Which nib did you get with your Scribo?
Wow. That is MUCH better than I would have ever expected from a modern pen.
Thank you so much for the awesome review! I would love to see a comparison between this and the Pilot Falcon 823 with the Falco nib, despite knowing the Pilot has feed issues, and people swap ir for an ebonite one.
Very beautiful! Truly a technical masterpiece 👍🏻
I so want that pen! Thank you for the review!
Azizah, thanks for the review, really interesting and informative. Now if I could just borrow your hands I may be able to actually use a flex pen😊😊😊
Fantastic review! I own about 5 fountain pens, ranging from $20-$100, but this is going to be the first high-end fountain pen I get. It looks amazing. Wanted one for at least 5 years!
trust me... you can flex, but in a normal size is useless, you need to write oversized to have that line variation.... for that price you can get 5 pens with line variation and write at normal size ...
Amazing!! Thank you so much for the review.
gold flex nibs are the epitome of flex nibs its about time this came out from MB. so good im getting one asap
Wow for the pen and WOW for the review. Thank you. Beautiful handwriting!
After seeing this review I bought the pen and I love it...........it's a multitasking pen,, ONE PEN RULES THEM ALL.......
Nope, you also need the 149 curved :)
I got this recently. Love the nib
Great review.....a little too good. I now own my third Montblanc because of you :)
This was absolutely great! Thank you so much for making this!
Saving up for my first Montblanc - would you recommend this flex nib or the medium? Thank you!
If it's your first one, I'd say go with the medium! Montblanc has a nib exchange policy as well so you can always inquire with your retailer about that!
Looks great.. makes you wonder why it took MB so long to make this pen.. thanks!
Keep
Another great review as usual. I just bought a new pen exactly like that one. Thank you so much. RS. Canada
Excellent review! I MUST have this pen...amazing modern flex, and the best I’ve seen from the modern era. Well done gorgeous
Check out a Pilot Custom heritage 912 with the fa nib. Save your money
Better than the Pilot FA nib?
I got this pen a month back after watching your video! Thank you Azizah! I basically use it as an EF with an occasional flourish here and there!
Hello mudit, how does it performs in daily writing ?
@@himanshukhuntia4293 Consistent performer. It flexes only when you want it to. Otherwise you can keep on using it as a regular EF nib.
Thanks a lot for all of your excellent videos, especially with the Pelikan BB writing short video. I plan to buy a Montblanc fountain pen, and I have started to save money for it. As I can afford only one, is it possible to use this flex nib for daily note-taking and to flex it only when needed and how long the life of flex nib lasts with occasional flexing?
Thank you for this review. I'm seriously looking at this pen. I have a few so called flex modern pens that have a flexible nib, but the feed can never keep up. This looks like an amazing nib/feed combo. Also, finally a pen enthusiast/reviewer who has a nice handwriting. All the other ppl out there reviewing these pens have horrendous handwriting that hasn't improved in the 5-6 yrs I've been watching their videos. Subbed.
This cracked me up. Thank you. I try my best even though I have a long way to go. Welcome, and thank you for joining.
Great Video very useful to help evaluate the nib Thank You
Tried this when I was in the store buying my normal 146..
Thank god I don't practise this kind of calligraphy, otherwise I won't be able to resist. LOL. Absolutely stunning pen, especially the gold foil edition.
Hi, Azizah! Thanks for this pen review. Now that a couple of years have passed and since you have already reviewed MB's curved nib, what is your assessment of this calligraphy nib? Has it been able to stand the test of time and regular use?
Do I need this done on my MB 149 vintage 149 (f) or would that a bad idea? 🤔
i sure wish i could afford this, haha. that looks great
Buenas tardes, esta pluma o bolígrafo se puede conseguir por Amazon?
Quick question, I’ve just purchased the mont blanc with the calligraphy nib, and am finding it quite stiff and difficult to flex. Does this improve the more you use one?
What ink did you use in this video? the color is beautiful. I would appreciate if you tell me what ink
I have this pen and I do love it. But, by lines are not as thick as yours. Do I need to break the nib in. ?? Did you tune it? I also can't write fast and flex at the same time as you do assuming your camera was not sped up for the figure 8s. Thank you.
How do you compare this nib with the vintage Montblanc flex nib?
It looks as though it writes like my Pilot Custom heritage 912 with the fa nib, but for how much?
I bought my fa pen for £120
Rhodium plated gold trim on the Pilot. I use Pilot Blue Black ink in the 70ml miser rounded bottle.
So, how is this Flexible NIB (119699 & sold out) versus the current Curved NIB 149 and Flexible NIB 146? Thanks for your thoughts.
I love your writing. Your writing is impressive. Where you learn to write like that? Any tips?
What'd you say if you compare flex with montblanc curved?
Nice review! Sh*t, now I really need to get one of these.
2 1/2 years later, How's it going?
I really wish I could afford this. I saw it the other day and freaked out. It’s a legit modern vintage flex pen.
Modern vintage? Read before sending entry.
@@aliveli-hq6zk He wanted to say that it is a modern pen with the flex of a vintage pen. How about you read before sending entry?
As you may know, the Pilot Custom 912 FA with its #10 size nib is one of the most flexible modern nibs out there, moreso than even Pilot #15FA nibs. Would you say this pen is more flexible than even the 912 FA?
So MB makes an ink for Noodler's Boston Safety Pen.....MB is expanding their horizons😆😆😆😆.
Love the video, superb handwriting. Your handwriting motor skills are top notch.👍👍👏👏
Thank you kindly.
How about an update on this pen/nib?
I just found out the other day from two forums that you don't need a special tool to remove the nib unit. It's similar to Pelikan. How cool is that. Same with the legrand calligraphy version. Are you also gonna get that version with this nib? I'm torn. But it's hard to resist.
A nice pen and I am suprised MB was able get line variation as much as 3 to 4 x Starting width actually. I can however see a lot of sprung nibs being returned to MB if they didn't temper the nib and instead just rolled the tangent of the curvature much thinner.
Indeed, I expect the same.
Does that result in a sprung nib over time, or randomly dependant on the nib?
WOW! What a great review of a Montblanc!
Would you consider doing a review of the regular non-calligraphic 149 nib?
Thanks..
I'll put it on my list :)
Waouuu !! I love it !
Impressed. May I ask which ink is used? And What color?
Would you kindly differentiate between this pen (149 Calligraphy) and ASC Magicflex?
I will put that on my list to do ASAP!
How’s the pen and nib doing now that few years have passed?
Those are interesting remarks you made about the Elixir inks. I wonder if the Elixir Black and their regular Permanent Black are quite similar in formulation. I smelled my bottle and the smell is really “strong”, stronger than in most saturated black inks I have used. This, coupled with the facts that it appears different than other black inks when lying dormant in the bottle (their Permanent Blue appears opaque - blue, rather than black - as well) and that it begins to block the feed channels somewhat after a mere 24 hours or so of dormancy, makes me wonder if the regular Permanent line is pigment-based as well.
I would like to suggest you give your pen an extremely good flushing out with water and re-ink. I've been using the permanent blue and black for years for work and rotating a 149, 146, Pelikan 800s, a 1000 and a Homosapien. Sometimes ink is left in for a month before I use the pen in rotation again, and I have never had any feed issues. I'm wondering if there is something in you feed channels that is making particulate stick to it. Maybe I'm lucky, but the only ink that ever gave me trouble was Platinum Carbon black, which I only use with converter pens since it is hard to clean out. I've found the M.B. inks all easy to clean. I wish they would make Toffee Brown permanent.
Can I turn my vintage 149 (f) into a calig nib one or is that just a bad idea?
You can add flex to any nib but you need to really know what your doing if you don't want to destroy it. Generally it means thinning out the material and making cut outs.
Beautiful writing. It would be interesting to see how it behaved on less wonderful paper than you are obviously using though. What is it about the resin/plastic that makes it precious, other than its being Montblanc ?
I don't know the details, it's not actually precious in any way as far as I know. Chemically, I suspect they've spent time researching some method to create a resin that is difficult to counterfeit.
In Boston's Montblanc boutique, their sampler of the 146 version of the calligraphy nibbed pen has a sprung nib.
I wonder if they are using a non-water base in that ink line-up? What are the drying times like?
Wow! Gorgeous nib. I was starting to doubt Montblanc could pen any more, what with all their collector pens of dubious ability. It doesn't have that vintage snap, but still highly enjoyable to watch.
It smells like pigmented ink, dries quite fast and is quite matte on the page. Interesting stuff, really nice colours!
This pen is not available anywhere in india. From where can i purchase it? Plz guide. Ebay is not working in india
OH GOD I HOPE THIS IS STILL AVAILABLE NEXT YEAR! Because I'll totally grab it then...
А где его взять?
What top 5 inks would you use with this fountain pen? Thanks for your presentation.
Ok, I always mean to answer your fantastic questions but I get so far behind but this one excited me so much: Montblanc Homer Blue, Montblanc Corn Poppy Red, Toronto Pen Company Maple Syrup, Waterman South Sea Blue, aaaaand.... probably my own PW Akkerman Pink :D
@@gourmetpens You are a very busy person who is spreading her passion for fountain pens and ink to all corners of the globe. Take care!
@@gourmetpens try j herbin emerald of chivor
You totally sold me this pen! Just ordered mine from where you recommended. What do you use yours for? Letters, signatures?
Honestly, daily use because it's a great daily writer in addition to being fun!
@@gourmetpens can we write very fast w/o skipping with it?
@@drganesh108 Yes, it keeps up quite easily with no pressure.
If you get the tools for the nib & piston taking the pen apart for cleaning and lubing is easy and straight forward, they simply unscrew.
I use silicone grease to lube and seal afterwards.
Hope this helps
Enjoy.
Would you mind sharing how much you had to pay in customs/duties for buying/importing the pen overseas from Appelboom?
I lucked out and this one made it in without taxes!
Do you think it would be safe to put Diamine's Jalur Gemilang in it?
probably but it’ll take some work to clean it! don’t let it dry out in the pen:)
quite artistic fantastic pen
Compared to the namiki falcon, is it more flexible?
Yes it is
Sorry if you’ve already answered this, but how does it do regarding reverse writing? Can you get an ultra fine line that way, or does it not do well writing in reverse?
Because of the softness, I would not recommend using this in reverse. The tines are perfectly aligned and it's too easy to misalign them.
@@gourmetpens Thank you!
So, after one year, how is this nib holding? Does it still work fine?
I just posted the one year later review on my channel :)
I like mont blanc mister stick pens. They're kinda nice.
This is awesome thank much
Most welcome!
Please, I'm begging you, take this pen apart and give us a high def look at the feed! It's a delicate balance to get a pen to keep up with constant flex without drooling and it looks like this one's got it figured out. I have to know what they've done!
Montblanc has seriously put some research into this. I too am wowed....
Why when you took off the cap was there ink all over the nib. Is that normal?
I didn't wipe the nib after inking it on purpose. If you wipe it, it won't do that unless you jostle the pen roughly.
@@gourmetpens Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
Huh. That's way better than what I was expecting. How would you say this nib compares to the Pilot falcon nibs?
You would have to take a falcon nib to the best nibmeister on earth and have them tune the nib for hundreds of dollars for it to be even 1/10th as good.
@@MisterRorschach90 seriously?
If you get the Pilot FA with a Mottishaw needlepoint & spencerian grind, and pop in a Flexible Nib Factory feed for it, you'll have a pretty awesome and very delicate flex nib. It'll be delightful to use. It'll probably run you up around $500 by the time all is said and done so it will be less costly than the 149 for sure.
The Pilot Falcon does not compare in any way!
What notebook are you using please?
It's a Stalogy 365 (A5 size)
This looks like it could be a game changer... I wonder if MB can produce that kind of flex performance consistently? Thanks for the vid :D
MB says all in...
What inc are you using in this video?
Montblanc Homage to Homer Greek Blue. I name it in the video during the writing sample :)
Wow Just WOW!!
If this nib will be available on 146 line, I am going to take a serious look at my credit card. Just 149 is too big for me (too girthy).
Its available. Gold leaf 146
@@ratneshpawar Just a bit on the expensive side; I do not need decorations on the pen, black one like the 149 would be perfect and cheaper.
Go for 149 calligraphy . Its really good. I'm using it
Very impressive. Finally a modern flex that is not shit.
The 149 isn't available in the states (at least as of this writing) so I had to shell out double to get the gold leaf version. I can't believe I paid so much for basically a nib but I haven't been this excited for one in a while! Thanks for the video as it feeds me while I wait for the delivery lol
Just received mine today and after picking it up I received a call from another store saying the 149 flex nib is available in the US but there is a 6-8 week waiting period 😬 ugh, that could've saved me $1,000 dollars lol. Anyways, I find the nib more scratchier than I'd like and a bit stiff. I never owned a flex nib before and I noticed people on CZcams placing their index finger on top of the pen to apply pressure. Definitely something I'll have to get used to. It's a fun learning experience.
@@Richardsumilang You have the 146 gold leaf version?
@@gourmetpens yes I do
@@Richardsumilang Ah yes, I tried that one in store. The 146 flex is much more firm than the 149, which is one of the reasons I selected the 149. It is absolutely gorgeous, however!
@@gourmetpens I know what you mean about the firmness. I tried to get used to it but eventually gave up and reported it as an issue to the local store where I got it. They took it back and built a new nib for me and now its as flexible as some of the vintage flex nibs I have! Kinda crazy! It's almost a perfect pen now. I find it a little toothy for my taste so it's not the pen I always lean to grab (although I wish it was for the price I paid) but I'm going to hold onto it for now :) Is your 149 at all toothy?
How is the nib holding up 2 years later?
Also amazing handwriting!
czcams.com/video/LQ5rrzNMFxI/video.html
kind of what you
e looking for)
Would love to see your update video on this.. :)
Already done :D
czcams.com/video/LQ5rrzNMFxI/video.html
I need to do a 5 year update at some point
What exactly is with not cleaning the nib?
Why is there ink all over?
OMG my OCD!
Still working well?
Very nice performance for your pen.. Sadly mine does not write well at all.
The flex version?
I don’t think people understand how close this is to vintage flex. Honestly it is the perfect flex nib in my opinion
Probably the best real flexible nib nowadays.
If they made this nib available separately then could it be used on other high end pens!
star dust the feed and capillary in normal pens may not keep up!
Feed not Star dust!
It's wonderful. I cannot afford it. I want to have its facility. Is there any way I can buy this nib/system in a modular cut-down, and fit it to another less expensive pen? Alternatively, is there any other company making a pen that I can use to get the same effect?
Try out the Franklin-Christoph HPS Extra Fine Steel Flex nib! Not bad at all for $25
@@gourmetpens
Thank you very much.
The Pilot Custom 912 with FA nib comes close -- but you'll have to buy a 3rd party ebonite feed from Flexible Nib Factory because the stock feed can't keep up.
id break the bank for that!!!!!
its probaly because of your handwriting....
Wow wow 🤩pen really impressed
Very nice!
I felt sad that the video ended, hope the video continued for a few more minutes... It feels like montblanc has nailed modern flex... I will definitely try it in a boutique. If it's a consistent writer , maybe it will be my first Grail pen that I will get.
The boutique I went to in Manhattan wouldn't let me try any of the pens, it was definitely disappointing
@@TASCOM44 Then what is the point of boutique? In India I think you can try the pen, at least that was the case couple of years ago, now i don't know what's the story...
Hot digitty dog! I honestly stumbled upon your video just randomly looking for reviews of top fountain pens. Azizah, love your energy and your writing! I’m definitely sold on this 149! I’ll be selling a few fountain pens I don’t need to get this one! I laughed at your precious resin aka plastic comment. Thanks for sharing and now I need to subscribe to your channel. Good day!
Thank you so much! Welcome, happy to have you here and most happy you're enjoying being here :)
I wish someone would make a documentary about how flex technology peaked and now can’t be recreated by modern pen makers.
Flexy pen? More like sexy pen. I've had that on my list of grail pens for a while, but I've had an eye on the Scripto pen with gold flex nibs too.
