  • Ford 5.4 Triton is notorious for blown spark plugs. After repairing mine the same spark plug blew out again, this time the insert blew out as well and stripped the threads In cylinder head. The proper repair is to replace the entire cylinder head: But I’m cheap, hardheaded, and pretty handy. This means I temporarily saved $3000.00 until the new spark plug fouls or blows back out the 3rd time. We shall see…

I use JB weld high heat metallic paste, it is on EBay for about $10 bucks. I cover the entire insert thread & collar. My 5.4 2v Expedition has blown 2 plug and I used the Calvan kit. No problamo!
The J-B Weld 37901 ExtremeHeat High Temperature paste comes in a 3 ounce plastic jar and you just use it instead of red thread locker.
I fully recommend JB Weld to anyone installing insert collars in their cylinder heads. I’ve seen collars come out with the spark plugs on engines when they used red thread lock.

I hope things are better. Fords specs under torques them at 13 foot pounds. Ford mechanics recommends 22-25 foot pounds.

You didn't install the insert correctly. Time Cert red locktite on the insert. No way that insert should have come out of it was installed correctly. You probably didn't torque the insert enough. Wayyy to much JB Weld.

On the first application I did put red locktite on the insert and thought I torqued it properly. I assume I did do something wrong. The problem is the threads are gone that are supposed to hold the insert in. The proper fix now is a head removal

    What is the news now

It blew out at 10k miles and I JB welded it back in again. Eventually I’ll have to have the head removed and have it repaired correctly but it’s getting me by till then. The problem is the threads are gone that are supposed to hold the insert in, and that’s the biggest insert made.
