Saying this here but when I was solo slooping for the skelly curse i was on the receiving end of a Athena who camped a veil mission. It was cool at first but they only ran and decided to use the A.I to win. So i had to deal with like 3 ghost ships firing at me, a fort that wouldn't shut up about "defending the stone" and another ship who ran the moment they took any damage. Needless to say i lost
lmao that sounds pretty fun honestly! would love to invade on someone doing a veil, win, and then see the event vanish because they merge out of the server 😂
Wait you died to the AI veil ships?
Was it named they Royal Vanguard? I did receive hg pvp during a veil with a reaper, but I was chasing a solo reaper during the whole thing

Only a few people doing the pvp update knows this. You can get allegiance without fighting and sinking a ship, its not just a multiplier you can just get the hourglass to grade 5 then sell the hourglass THEN sell your loot after. It still gives you allegiance.

It's just not a ton but it is consistent if you can't get any matches
kinda funny there's actually a PvE only way to level up 😂
What is your method of getting your hour glass to grade 5? The best time vs risk vs reward I've found on the servants side of the coin is: all commodities + 1 ghost fort = HG grade 2 + Reapers grade 3. Takes about 20 - 25 mins per run? Queue times in my region are rubbish and this keeps things ticking over
@@Elkspit use a single treasure chest to get infinite faction grade, unless if they fixed that bug
Doing this method is how I got my level 100, as a TSD, I came to love adventure and interacting with other pirates; so between convincing crews to raise opposing emissary, sinking invaders and loot stacking, was a TON of fun with my pals not to mention it’s infinitely better than sitting in an infinite loading screen and the anticipation of an invasion is so fun
I got the ghost curse in just under a week by defending its honestly so under rated especially if you invade twice then defend with faction stash 5 the only issue is the wait times

Can confirm, fighting in the veil is dope. I invaded an Athena with Good Boy cosmetics and had to juggls them, the fort, and the ghost ships firing at me. I lost, but it was spectacular.
Also glad to see someone else agree that naturally-formed faction alliances are part of the fun. I've been on both sides of them (invaded a gally-sloop alliance and a sloop=brig alliance, and had a 4-sloop Reaper alliance DECIMATED by an insanely skilled duo sloop) and they add spice.
I think it's just important for PvP mains to remember that it's all part of the fun. I'm not usually an alliance enjoyer, but the happenstance of this adventure l made me realise that usually these things are just people goofing around and having fun.
Also on god I need to do a veil and wait to be invaded it sounds so fun!!!

This was very well edited, the story progressed really nicely. Good job.
My crew and I tried just sailing, doing voyages, collecting loot, having fun and defending. Going into a battle knowing your fighting, we know we have a slim chance in winning. However, when we did defender mode our chances of success plummeted, because we’re not good and the panic induced from the invasion was debilitating.
Regardless, it’s great to see a different mechanic for the PvP mode. Cheers!

I went from 'pvp is literally a waste of time. Scuttle/relog and keep doing cargo runs' to doing this.
Merchant shipwrecks werent working a lot so i feel like i got jipped out of flamehearts cutlass. Non stop voyaging. Ended season 8 at GH48, MA 42, OoS 38. Lil bro got me in the game, but recently, and SUPER late in season 8. Anyway.. sorry about that, pvp guys, for being the 'coward'. Im sorry. It was more like a mosquito flying in my tent, at the time.
This here has got to be my favorite way to play the game. Thanks for this video, its one of the only ones still. Doing this will get any sailors fangs out, real fast. This is the way.
PvEvP was always the whole point. Toxie, you may have reason to recognize me and i may not be your favorite, but Id really LOVE to see a season 9 science~ing video of doing this. Wonder how effective using the 2 sea forts left of plunder (old brine/ancient gold; the sail in between usually resets the forts, pvp supps, etc) as reapers, on either side is.

I did this exact thing with the legend of the veil on defence, except I got invaded at the last possible second during the final phase of the fortress and got obliterated from both sides
A Grade 5 Reaper flag is enough to get you to Stash 1, i've had it before and it's so satisfying, however as you amass a haul other ships on the server will be tempted to ambush and steal your loot.
yeah it's Def a fun way to mix up hourglass gameplay though! I'm all for more ships taking an interest
The main reason people don't do it, is because it's largely a waste of time. There is still risk management to getting a fight and losing it all, whether to hourglass pvp or just natural pvp. The allegiance you gain is very small, and does not make up for being a defender. Defenders have all of the risk and gain less allegiance overall for fights. When it's ultimately easier/faster to just keep diving after resupplying.
You actually get LESS allegiance for defending, even with higher stash values, when you factor in waiting times. There is a MINIMUM 15 minute timer after a fight ends to get an invade (when you can just dive and get an instant fight, inb4 people mention crap waiting times, yes I'm aware they're bad SOMETIMES, but not all of the time), and even with that timer there is no guarantee you'll get a fight because you can not be invaded if your server is full. Whereas, you can dive and get put onto a new server with open slots whenever you want.
And honestly, there is nothing wrong with alliancing to get wins. It's part of the lore of the season. It's all out war between the Reapers and Athena's Fortune, the only reason it becomes scummy is when people purposefully queue 4 (because server max is 5) of their own friends/ships into alliance servers to decimate people 4v1. Natural alliances for pvp are perfectly fine, that's why the fights are in the adventure world to begin with and not in private spaces.
People are obsessed with thinking the fights are 1v1 ship battles. They aren't. Anybody who knows the fight locations can look at the map and join in if they see people there. Or scout the areas to join in. It's kind of the point. Sure it sucks to lose that way but that's why you can just queue up and dive again without worrying, assuming you aren't on the resource chugging brigs and galleons.
Whenever I do stumble upon someone defending whenever I dive, its always someone selling loot or otherwise not even being on their ship. ...I generally wait for them to get back and set sail to have a proper fight. Theres no fun in those.
Occasionally I do defend myself as well.. but with the way I play I do often feel bad for whoever invades. Because more often than not I end up in a (proper) Reaper alliance.. so the other 1-man sloop will have me to deal with.. and a 4-man galleon.
i tried this with a buddy back in eight...
god i wish it worked. we got to grade five after finishing a sea fort and got broad sided by an invading sloop. tried it again today out of boredom and... well let's just say i've never seen such enderman like powers from a crew with athena kegs ;-;

I think the hourglass is horrible for SOT content because the fights have no build up. I still love pvp but man i kinda miss having to work to find boats it was entertaining to watch.

I actually was in a similiat situation on the gold and glory weekend recently, I was fighting, well, not the most skilled guy, not enough to sink me, but enough to let me not sink him eother. Then some duo sloop of athena cane and helped me with him, we had a chat, and then I decided I'd let them sink me as payback, I had a streak of 1 anyway, but before I said anything, they proceeded to start shooting me anyway lol

Me and my brigantine once invaded a Galleon doing The Veil at its end ( Last fortress was standing. ) There was another brig fighting the Galleon, and a sloop comming... Me and my crew had been at a fort and we hid a Stronghold Gunpowder barrel in the mast, i jumped off, got on their ship and blew the galleon to smitterines! was epic! they had JUST managed to fend off the other Brigantine so we were fine... Until that damned sloop appeared, fresh players, they seemed basic.. But they had 7 Gunpowder Barrels.. two of them blew up on our ship, 5 of them blew the rest of theirs, i was left in the sea with a Canon Rowboat and had to pickup the loot of not only my brigantine, but the second, and the galleon, the sloop had nothing, the galleon players came back but i died to the fortress shooting a canonbqll at me, sinking the rowboat- finaly my team made it back, we stole the Chest Of Legends and eventually sunk them ( with luck and canonballs, many, maaany.. Canonballs ) In the end we sold it all, and i went from Athena level 10 to 12, overall? it was fun... But i'd rather do reapers anytime.

Ok so this Is the hot topic of the month but:
PvP mains who are mad because bad crews are alliance-ing to win, how does it feel?
PvE players have been destroyed and crapped on for years, with "it's a pirate game" being thrown on their lap for every single complain the brought up (either fair or not, this Is not my point). Now PvE players are using a game mechanic to achieve victory, and i feel like salty PvPers should just remember that "this Is a pirate game" and there Is no fair fight to be had here. You either fight with everything you got or you sink.

me and my friend was doing the battle thing and two seconds in the match we got boarded instantly. we had no fighting chance at all.

People don’t do it because there’s too much risk involved. If I’m underwater doing a shipwreck for a legend of the veil and I get invaded I’m at a huge disadvantage. At least in normal play I can look around and track ships that might attack.
lmao agreed. only reason I allianced with the other Guardian was to make sure I'd be able to complete the final part of the Veil.
The disadvantages are too apparent, but it's a fun change of pace.

they'd prefer skeleton but I like both curses, I do both gaurdians of fortune and warrior of the flame, but sadly im bad at pvp and it means I wouldn't get alleiance for those 2 factions

I can't do anything I'm already bad at PvP in this game and when I try it I get spammed with cannonballs and all I can do is repair and if they get on my ship I can't do anything it's impossible for me to improve or get better and on top of that I keep getting annoyed and raging and it's so annoying even if I don't care about sinking I'll get into a fight than suddenly care about sinking and get annoyed that I'm losing.

The alliances shouldnt be happening unless those diving are given an extra ship to balance the situation. Its a hopeless fight for them and entirely out of their control as its RNG who they are put up against. Rare had this idea of random ships just getting caught up in it all, it never dawned on them that people would be grouping up and wiping the floor with invaders over and over.
It seems harmless, because there was some pve involved, but those crews stood no chance - not to mention they can see their opponent already has a ghost curse - matchmaking is such that those invaders could be level 5, or even complete newbies and the longer the hourglass is running the more distorted the matchmaking gets as it loosens its rules to make fight happen.
PvP should be about challenge - thats why wiping out crews of newbies isnt a good feel. Some crews will log into those fights, see they are outnumbered, get smashed to bits and then they walk away from the mode entirely and that does nobody any good. Lets hope rare makes some changes - as just because we can, doesnt mean we should.
Next weeks video we roll a three ship alliance that consisted of two galleons and a sloop. It was very fun, and proves that it's not hopeless.
I would hate to see the risk vs reward removed from this game mode just because people are upset when it doesn't go the way they expected. Besides, if you're worried about invading onto an alliance then you can simply defend, as only one ship can invade you.
Invading on other players is a risk as you can't know exactly what you'll run into on the other side.
I would do this, but I would just be stacking loot for another player to take. So far I'm 4-35 in solo hourglass fighting, and down a few hundred thousand gold from where I started the season.
yeah it's super shakey to do honestly. Unless you're confident in your pvp it's not worth the risk, which imo, they should probably increase the rewards for doing it.

thank you so much that's very sweet of you! As for tips, all I can say is never nose their broadside, and try to make them nose your broadside. You can win entirely with naval if you pin them in a spiral once their anchored/demasted :)

The best strategy Is to farm sea fort loot, so if you get invaded, defense is easy

I got screwed by a sloop crew....acting like they wanted to be an Alliance and had me tip the glass to the flam and then do some stupid thing for community day by drinking grog as soon as my guy was drunk they shot me dropped the Alliance then sunk my ship so they could get Guardian Alliance points.
The hourglass is the best bit of evidence to show that sea of thieves has a worse community then anime

Naturally formed alliances are fine in my book. its when the alliance is formed by server hopping until you and your friends control a server that I feel it goes too far...

SoT is a hard game, and some days your just gonna perform worse than others. Just keep chipping away at it and you'll get it before you know it :)
