I really struggled with this, but then I switched to the fast sonic, then I did in a few tries. Also try to drift into the rings to get time. Hope this helps!😁
The secret to these is not speed it’s accuracy. I tried this with a suped up sonic car. Couldn’t do it. Switched to using Tails with no mods and nailed it after a few goes.
I just spote the trick, for the timer to refill you have to drift while you colide into the rings, so ou just tap the drift bouton when you arive close to them and release once you got them to keep straight and aim the next raw.
Took a break from Elden Ring & Warzone to play a fun, light hearted game...that has now succeeded in destroying my soul. I got a platinum trophy for Sekiro, Shadows Die Twice, but Sonic is what's going to break me? 🤣
@rockman fan It isn't, believe me. I tried for at least 30 minutes and all I can muster is a bronze. Oh well, I've decided here and now i'm not bothering with a challenge if it takes me more than five tries.
I have since been able to platinum this, but with great difficulty. I found it easier with tails as technique characters tend to have more controllable drifts. Get boosts where you can from tricks and stuff. Hope this helps. But yeah, must have taken me 50+ tries in the end
@rockman fan yeah the technique characters really aren’t much slower, and if you mix in drift and trick boosts with the ring collecting it means you can get further into the next lap without running out of time. It took about 2 and a half laps to get the platinum for me. Let me know how you get on.
I wish these were never included in the game. These challenges only highlight how awful the drifting controls feel. And in case anyone is wondering, this challenge is actually impossible to do with Chao. Struggled with him dozens of times and only got 1000. Did it with Tails and got it on the second try.

I thought I was the only one struggling with this challenge. But I will say, as a tip for anyone else playing this game because of PS Plus - accuracy is more important than speed. So use Tails. It felt impossible at first, but my advice is to just only do long drifts for the long coin trails. With the small groups you can just tap the drift and you won't spiral out of control. But for the loooong juicy coin strips, being accurate is more essential than speeding through the course. But I think we're all in agreement that these challenges are bullshit so far haha

I feel like I'm doing the exact same thing yet I'm running out of time, what's the trick here? I'm a bit confused. It's like my instal has the timer eplete faster or something. PS: Ok... I spotted the one singular difference, you're drifting into all rings, I'm rifting only in corners, I got it with an almost full timer bar now... I feel kinda stupid... it might just be me reading the rules too fast but, I feel this was poorly explained within the game, well, now that I know this I should be able to 100% the game, once you know that it just becomes so easy...
Yeah, this is a stupid game. If you don't get these down, you're not getting to new worlds. I can't do it, I've tried, and it's ridiculous. Admittedly, I'm not great in terms of control when it comes to the drifting (although I do alright during the actual races, themselves.) but this is asinine. These should be like "extra credit" type levels, not necessities. You can't get enough keys and stars without them. If an adult can't get it (and I'm not the only one) imagine kids who can't (and there's nothing wrong with anyone who can't, at any age). I miss the old school Sonic games...the ones where you could pick up the controller and just go. They still challenged you (bonus levels/Chaos Emeralds) but you could still beat the game AND have fun! Not here, though. I'm glad I got it for $15.00 on Black Friday, because full price would've made me set my game and Xbox on fire with a smile on my face.
you don't need to complete this to get to new worlds though? in fact, to simply beat the game, you can just go the paths that have races with the occasional destruction and eggpawn assault missions, there is 1 exception being in world 6, but this stage isn't required.
This one was super easy for me as opposed to 2.6 - that was a nightmare. I used standard tails for this one and finished was 14 seconds to spare. Just control the drifts, learn the course and you’ll get it for sure.

Multiple times to beat hit but with Tails it's quite easy :)
