  • Swapping out my steering rack because it was leaking. Using a used one, but switch out the inner/outer tie rods with the ones that were on the car already. Also putting on energy suspension bushings. I know the filming sucks but if you're taking on this task for yourself, then I hope this helps

    how do i know if mine is bad? the boots are blown but when i jack the car up I don't feel any play in the steering

      More than likey yours is still fine. I dont think torn boots really equates to having a bad rack. If it was leaking from the inner tie rods (from inside the boot), or from the little housing that the steering shaft connects to, then those are signs of your rack going bad. I think pretty much when the seals go bad is when the rack goes bad.

      Is your steering messing up on you that you decided to check it out?

    did your rack make it smoke more when you drove it fast , cause mines definitly leaking but if i drive it to red line it will smoke alotttt but its running all the way back to the cats and buring them thruout that area just curious if your did the same

      Nope! Mine was never leaking THAT bad. Are you sure it's PS fluid that you're leaking? If so, it must be a big leak that you have! Mine would drip, but not spew out enough to run all over the exhaust

      @@danthestanmanj594 its definitely leaking but it may be leaking oil somewhere, i had just pulled the tranny to replace the rear main seal cause it was leaking from there but now its not. i also had just resiliconed the valve covers so that's not leaking anymore...

      @@ryandeleon24 best bet would be to safely look under the car while it's running. Hopefully it isn't anything too major! Definitely keep in check with your fluid levels, that way you're not running dry on accident

    I have a lot of play on my steering wheel ???? could this just be the bushings

    • @danthestanmanj594

      Not too sure man, could be a couple of things. Id say check your Lower control arm, outer tie rods, steering shaft, etc. Just lift up your car, take of your front wheels and turn it by hand. You'll probably be able to see/feel the play. When my car had steering wheel play, it was a bad steering knuckle/u joint.

      For the most part, at most I'd say a weekend job and at the very least a day job. Also, as long as you have all the correct tools, should be pretty straight forward

      @@danthestanmanj594 how about the steering wheel adjustment, like at the end? Just gotta turn the wheels straight and reconnect the steering shaft right?

    • @danthestanmanj594
      @danthestanmanj594  Před 3 lety

      @@Moon___man for the most part, yeah. Just disconnect the steering knuckle and straighten the steering wheel. I ended up switching out my rack AGAIN, and when I put it back together, the steering wheel was straighter that time around, but my new problem was having more turning angle while turning left vs turning right. Lol

      @@slidewayskenny6925 ah I see. It's do-able as long as you make sure you have everything where it needs to be, In terms of having the cam gears in the correct location before starting to put everything on. I'd say the trickiest part is the tensioner. If you mess that part up you have to buy a whole new one 😶. There are good write ups out there for the process tho. Some videos, too.
