Russian Forces expanding offensive to Sumy - How will Ukraine Hit Back? | Maj Gen GD Bakshi

  • A Russian naval frigate and a nuclear-powered submarine have conducted missile drills in the Atlantic Ocean while en route to Cuba, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defence. The exercises, involving the submarine Kazan and the warship Admiral Gorshkov, featured the firing of high-precision missiles at mock enemy targets from over 600 kilometres (370 miles) away. Additionally, Admiral Gorshkov undertook training to repel air attacks.
In this episode of The Grand Strategy with Major (Retd) GD Bakshi, he talks about the next potential target for the Russian Armed Forces inside Ukraine after the offensive in Kharkiv. According to Maj Gen Bakshi, Russian forces may strike along the banks of the Dnieper River or in Sumy. Moreover, Russia and its ally Belarus have commenced the second stage of drills aimed at training troops in the use of tactical nuclear weapons.
However, this move raises questions on whether the war in Ukraine will break the tactical nuclear threshold and propel the world into chaos.

    • @calvinlee1813
      @calvinlee1813 Před měsícem +1

India,China and other Nations gain many options with Aircraft Carriers. Take the Indian Navy, Fighters from the Indian Aircraft Carriers are a threat to Chinese or Pakistani AntiSubmarine Forces. Also the Fighters allow the India Navy to operate with Fighter Cover further at Sea. India has a lot of Ocean to Patrol and Islands to protect and supply. Indian Carrier Groups will make that a more secure link. Also Aircraft Carriers have the sensors, communication and space to allow flexible tactics in the theater. As many people that are against Aircraft Carriers, there are many who see the capabilities they provide Commanders. The India Navy MiGs and Helos bring much to the Theater.

A nuclear war would mean the end of everything. To get an idea of what a major nuclear war would be like. I recommend one watch the movie “Threads,” which depicted the consequences of Russian nuclear attack on the British Isles. Although this movie was made in the mid 1980’s, its depiction of the horror which would follow a nuclear war is extremely awful. Even though certain aspects of this movie are rather dated, it’s still worth a watch. Although one has to have a strong stomach to see it through to the end.

How did the Houthis attack the USS Enterprise when its decommissioned and being dismantled?! 😂. The New Enterprise won’t be commissioned until 2030. I was on the Enterprise when I was in the U.S. navy in the 80’s. It’s being scrapped. It was launched in 1961 as the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Its reactors have already been dismantled. So how did the Houthis strike a ship that isn’t even active? 😂 I like General Bakshi, but I don’t know where his getting his information from? It’s grievously erroneous.

I am puzzled as to why the Russian nuclear threat is taken seriously in 2024.
Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 . The Ukraine have been striking the Russian units with storm shadow since 2023 - it is more than 15 months since Russian soil has been attacked.there are many Russian personnel and equipment losses for long time.

    Well some points
    1) there is NO nuclear arsenal in Ukraine - that was voluntarily given up in 1994 in exchange for guarantees from Russia to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity (including Donbas and Crimea). It’s almost certain Putin would never have invaded in 2014 and again in 2022 if Ukraine had kept its nukes
    2) Putin’s nuclear sabre rattling is just that - firstly any strategic strike on France would invoke a NATO response with the USA and UK both nuclear powers as well as of course France who have their independent deterrent. Tactical weapon use by Putin would result in NATO boots on the ground . Russia’s military is now so degraded they couldn’t take on just Poland let alone the whole of NATO strengthened by Sweden and Finland. Then - as the General should know - it’s not just a matter of using tactical nukes you have to have soldiers prepared to suit up and walk into a mushroom cloud: those guys are dead as Russia’s elite units have been destroyed or decimated. Finally and most importantly Putin’s boss Xi Jing Pin won’t let him use nukes - it’s too risky and damaging to China.
    3) Putin’s nuclear threats are a sign of weakness and desperation given his recent offensive meant to exploit the hold up of US aid over 6 months by Trumpist Republicans. This has failed and Ukraine is already seizing the momentum. Btw for those who think Russia is winning, they have barely advanced 24 km in 2 years - remember this was supposed to topple Ukraine’s democratically elected government in 10 days! Russia has lost the naval battle in the Baltic, and it has been unable to establish air superiority despite a massively larger Air Force.
Ukraine SHOULD be able to attack military and strategic targets within Russia to destroy Russian capacity for logistics and attack preparation. Unlike Russia, Ukraine has not and will not attack civilian targets.
    4) there have indeed been UAF losses of western supplied tanks and armour, but a) in nearly all cases the crews have survived in stark contrast to Russian gear and b) Russian losses both in equipment and armour have been massively higher than UAF by all objective assessments. 3) the performance of western tanks especially ability to fire accurately on the move far surpasses Russian tanks - and the Bradley has proved itself again and again as a formidable tank buster and anti- infantry weapon
This is an existential conflict of good (Ukraine) vs evil (Putin’s Russia) and Indian audiences should understand this - defeating Russia will weaken China, and discourage autocrats from
aggressive territory grabs which India has experience of on their northern borders, and South East Asian countries in the South China Sea so India should be rooting for Ukraine
China is very disappointed and angry with Putin at the complications caused by his failed putsch. A successful SMO would have green lit a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and possible other land grabs. Now China risks decoupling from European and American markets by supporting Russia, and is experiencing push back on its ambitions over T and the S China Seas
For objective updates this is suggested from the Institute for the Study of War
    understandingwar.org/backgrounder/ukraine-conflict-updates
Putin - even if he wins on the battlefield which he isn’t and by now probably can’t - had already lost. The inadequacy of Russian military power - believed by West and Asia alike to be formidable - is revealed as a mirage, Russia is internationally isolated, its economy while doing ok under war-economy conditions is very very precarious and facing real problems to come, its society is experiencing an unprecedented crime wave (even for Russia) with the return of thousands of hardened criminals who were recruited into Wagner in the first year of the war. NATO is larger, stronger and more United - just 3 years after Macron was debating whether its existence was necessary at all! Finland and Sweden joining have made the Baltic a NATO lake, and suppress Russia’s Arctic ambitions. NATO members have woken up and are increasing defence spending considerably. Western economies are in far better state to do this than Russia, whose economy is now smaller than Italy’s (raising the Q if whether it should be BICS not BRICS)

Why NATO is required even after end of last cold war??
You know what, to mobilize troops with armoured vehicles required lot of fuel and Russia is major crude oil producer which keeps their machines running in cold wheather. If Russia stops gas pipeline to Europe, which satisfies it's 30% need, will come to the end. America can not save baltic or even European countries with its nukes. This is not an era of WWII.
It's very difficult to beat Russia on its own backyard.

No living global lingua franca belongs to a single country or group of countries. Renowned etymologists plausibly argue that that 50% of English words are borrowed from Latin (vastly formal: scientific, legalese words and affixes), 20% derived from French (formal words), 13% from Greek (religious, medicine and affixes), barely 08% from Old English (mostly informal words) and all regional world linguae francae aka lingua francas have to this very moment been lending English countless everyday and/or specialist terms. And that's why there exists an Australian, an Irish, an Indian, a Nigerian, ...English.
By the way, isn't any language just a tool of verbal or written communication? If so, isn't aping anyone else's accent, intonation and speech resonance an exercise in futility?
Besides, can anyone speak a second, third or fourth language without a heavy accent, nasal resonance and intonation from his/her mother tongue (the first language a child speaks is her/his mother tongue)? Ever heard a fluent Swahili, Mandarin, Hindi, Japanese, ... speaker from the West without his/her twang resonance? Hands off our beloved seasoned military instructor, Major General!
