- Join the concrete crew on a hot Wisconsin summer day as we begin work on a new driveway project. We broke out the old concrete and the sub grade was terrible so I had to excavate WAY down and add 3" gravel so we could firm up the base. The quad axle dump truck ended up getting stuck in the mud again which cost us a lot of time and frustration. It also caused me to miss best mom Monday, which was NOT my favorite. Enjoy
Pat is one of them oldschool workers. He shows up early, does exactly what he's told and also things without needing to be told, and usually does it right (still learning Ryans way), and goes the extra mile with caring for the trucks.
I'm the same way and I'm 20 it just depends on how you were raised and the workers you were trained by and around I believe.

I couldn’t agree more. I think Ryan is making a massive mistake by keeping Ray. He is a massive liability. Being that Ray goes to the same church as Ryan, I think that is the only reason he is still with Victory. At this point. He has cost the company 10s of thousands with his idiotic mistakes and causing crew down time. It’s always something and it’s really frustrating at his inability to grasp the importance of learning from mistakes and following simple directions

He said he didn't feel safe dumping where he was told to because of tilt, so he moved.
The dump should take better care of their yard - They literally have thousands of tons of gravel they could lay out, with a machine that can move and flatten the ground. People are putting to much blame on Ray. Only so much he can actually do.

Put in dash cameras with audio in the dump trucks so you can see if the issues are Big Ray's fault or not.

She saw it for the excuse it is. There’s AC in the gym, AC inside of the loader and Ryan didn’t really do much physical labor at work. Ryan has never been fully committed to any of it, and his lack of results show it. He should just eat what he wants and enjoy it, instead of faking the effort for CZcams.

yes, i have my cdl and do concrete aswell. your husband is 100% right. you can get a sense of what looks good and what doesnt. if there is any doubt always just get out and walk your path. a simple little walk can save so much money and time

I worked in a mine for years and we always had a cable on the loaders to pull out trucks. The pull pin is Rays fault, he needs to make sure he has the tools to get those out in the truck. The driver is responsible for his truck but the loader/dozer operators should have what they need to pull out trucks. Getting stuck happens all the time. It slows down everyone to let a truck sit! Fail on the dump yard and the driver on this one.
As a concrete mixer driver, I ALWAYS carry 3 clamps and 1 gigantic tow strap. All of our trucks carry tow straps. Probably be a good practice for Ray to follow. Along with some lessons on how not to get stuck.
If Eric's "side job" keeps him from coming to his "day job," at what point do you consider it a conflict of interest and start looking for a replacement?

42:31 Cumulative error. You have to work to a baseline from one end - don't measure from points you measured out - always go back to the baseline. A good draughtsman will give you baseline dimensions for long runs so you don't have to work it out with maths, because that's another potential point of error.
43:09 The tape measure hook is meant to be loose like that - it has play equivalent to the thickness of the return so when you're measuring inside you get the same position as if you measure to the outside.
Yip a running measurement is far more accurate..

Also, using to end of the hook on the tape measure isn’t very accurate because you’re measuring the hypotenuse… many tiny mistakes can add up at longer distances.

I'll never understand how things like this happen. It's the responsibility of the driver to make sure the ground is not too soft. Let's not mention either that it's mind blowing how you have to continue to tell the guys what to do.....Hats off to you Ryan on the level of patience you have to show on a daily.
You should think about making a check list for your guys, end of the day ( clean out of trucks) and start of shift (equipment and supplies are stocked on the truck)

Part of being a driver is surveying where you drive into, I drove box trucks into construction areas and always surveyed my path and listened to the gentleman who was going to offload me.

Not one of the boys on my team would dream of making mistakes like these without learning from them. My boys wouldn't dream of showing up late, and if they absolutely had to, they would let me know the night before. Things happen obviously, traffic, car issues etc. But that doesn't excuse it happening what seems like daily. They even did it when he booked a fishing charter for the day and still payed their wages!
