GameSpot said it had "Too much Batmobile" and the combat was very repetetive.
Fuck 'em.
They said that the Batmobile combat is tedious and that the Batmobile is shoehorned in too much. They did praise the actual Batman combat systems. They also said that they like to drive the Batmobile, the issue is that it gets too much attention.
The Batmobile complaints seem to be very common as well. But, two points are a bit too much for an otherwise mostly positive review (if you actually read it).
The story has the same themes as any other Batman story, that is expected, and it can be a flaw.
Drn Montemayor It can be, but Arkham City and Arkham Asylum had the same themes as any other Batman story and yet that wasn't much of a problem.
Lol Ikr repetitive that's with every freakin game in the world there is always something repetitive like call of duty you kill and die. Fighting has usually same concept with slight mechanic upgrades. Story games with shooting like uncharted the style to some can get repetitive. That is such a bad excuse. Like the world is hard or this game is too bloody like every other game

I personally don't mind it that much because they even said they do delve into Batman's psyque, and I value characters over story. But a good story and plot don't hurt at all.

There are a lot of games that get "low" scores of 7 or even 6 that I would recommend people play. You know? Don't tell me how good you think it is, just tell me if you think I'd like it.
Detective Crusader COD usually gets between a 7-8.5 on average. So AK is already better.

Dishoungh White I know this is a joke, but they really do this. Zelda Skyward Sword was getting a lot of 10s. It had a 95+ rating on Metacritic. So, what did Gamespot decide to do? Give it a 7! Tell the audience the controls suck when they didn't! They do this on purpose with big releases. They gave Last of Us an 8. Do I need to say more?

You see, here's my issue with the direction of Batman in recent media--games included. This also coincides with how the Batmobile might take out some of the "Batman" feel of the game.
The absolute best interpretations of Batman are the ones which capitalize on his humanity. Sure, we tout Bruce around for how 'exceptional' he is for being human, but we never get around to the whole "being human" part, and he's left as a sort of pseudo-everyman idealizing the "indomitable will" without any of the real weaknesses humans are burdened with. Yes, humans are emotional creatures, and they tether a lot of value on others. This is why, in the best Batman comics, Alfred is known as the moral support for Bruce. Not only has he been there for him physically, but has also pulled him back to his feet at his lowest points, such as his drug addiction in "venom." Batman needs his team.
Another issue which has leaked into the media surrounding this awesome and relatable character is the "GD Batman" stereotype. Lifting one thousand pounds after going for days with no sleep and major injuries, even though up until then it seemed he could only do that in his prime? He's Batman! Trained! Indomitable willpower! Doing just as well physically whilst irrationally refusing medical treatment for days at a time? Well, that's Batman for you!
In Arkham City in particular, Batman seems rather distant, not just cold or brooding, but very *distant* from everything. His team and his humanity. The best we got-- the point where I actually became invested in Batman as a *man* was in Origins, when he saved Alfred from Bane in the BatCave. But even then, we couldn't do anything like have him be crippled or dead. That would mean ruining continuity. So we get Asylum, where it's never really mentioned and no real emotional 'progress' has been made. Further, the frequent modernization and glorification of his armor represents the fading mortality of the character as absolutely implausible amounts of planning, strength, and "willpower" apparently create a human who can overthrow gods at the wave of his hand.
Am I against Batman's almost superhuman physique, intellect, and spirit? No! He needs those things! It needs to flirt with the suspension of disbelief to be inspiring and innovative. But when you (1) never set limits on any of these things, (2) fail to give him naturally human qualities in the first place (such as emotions or need for friendship), and (3) combine that with unexplainable technology and material circumstances, and you get an inhuman character. Because humans don't have an infinite supply of any of these things.
I feel that this game is trying to push the story to new, refreshing places, and I hope that the personal trauma of Joker's death will be explored-- and not only to the extent that it makes the hero 'dark' or 'gritty' and neglects to let it affect his work or relationships. Because, gee, we don't want this man to be *really* weak, do we?

You aren't forced to use the Batmobile all the time but when you are, it's either fighting/chasing drones or opening certain doors. You are free to navigate without the Batmobile.
"Combat is repetitive."
It's not. Gamespot is obviously just using a very small part of the combo system. As a pro-Arkham gamer, I used every move during the previous games and it's all different and you press around 4-5 buttons. I was surprised when I saw the moves list. It's very plenty. Because of the amount of moves to perform, you are forced to use a small part of the combo system but being used to all moves will make you feel like the Batman.
Why does it always come down to "Huge sites like IGN and GameSpot are paid off to write reviews."? If anything, i say the reviews that most IGN Editors write are honest and genuine. IGN Reviewers like Ryan McCaffrey, Dan Stapleton, Jared Petty, and long time former IGN-er Colin Moriarty are honest and thoughtful. In my two years of following IGN, none of these reviewers made a review I didn't disagree with. Not because of what most might proclaim as fanboyism, but because their reviews are genuinely thoughtful and detailed. So I really don't think it comes down to a publisher handing over a check to a huge site. Honestly, what i think it ultimately comes down to, is this GameSpot reviewer nitpicked all his personal ecentrities of what he doesn't like in a game and then made a brash decision that it made it lesser of what Arkham Knight is deserving. Nevertheless, it is still just this GameSpot's Kevin Vannord's opinion, and GameSpot is obviously an outlier because all other reviews have nothing but praise for Arkham Knight.

For fucks sake, just because a review site gave a game that you like (and mind you, HAVENT EVEN PLAYED YET) a fairly average score, doesnt mean that you get to rip them into shreds. Remeber at the end of the day, this are OPINIONS. And if someone thought that there was too much of something (i.e. Batmobile), then thats perfectly reasonable.

If you want to read things worse than the Gamespot review, go to their comment section for the review. You'll see things like "Is Batman the new Assassin's Creed?", "Yes. It was dead after Asylum." or "A balanced, ethical review." (As if a video game review often has its ethics called into question.)

My theory, I think the prophecy tells us more than we know. From the ashes of Arkham (asylum) a chain of events will occur (Comics to City to Knight) that you can't stop (Joker's death and fear toxin being where nearly every villain was in City). This was a set up. This has been a ploy all along and we are just realizing it. I mean look at it for what it is, they had City planned at the launch of Arkham Asylum, had Knight planned at the launch of City. "This isn't just some escape attempt, Joker's been planning this." No, Rocksteady's been planning this. We were all fooled, they knew, from the very beginning. What if we weren't just looking hard enough? What if we were just misdirected the whole time? We thought we were being lead into being the Dark Knight, but what if we were all pawns in Rocksteady's schemes. I can't trust Rocksteady, because they hold too many secrets. There's something they're keeping from us and I know it's something bigger than what we've realized.
So... Batman does or doesn't die? All I know is that Jason is most likely Arkham Knight.

ArkhamKnight - I couldnt believe Rocksteady lied to everyone claiming for months the Arkham knight was an entirely new character, when he wasn't im not even a regular comic book reader and the whole jason todd reveal was a slap in the face to the original writer who actually came up with the great under the hood story. By claiming the arkham knight was a new character they completely plagirized the original writer and lying to the everyone else is false advertisement a crime btw. 6.0/10 Cool costume and predator boss fights but that whole plagirizing and false advertisement make it the bullet whole in the game, how can you make a superhero game and breaks laws while doing it????
The Joker - -WTF would they make the same mistake as origins and claim the game is about one thing then plot twist its all about the Joker???? They could have just said that and been honest, instead of constantly saying joker is dead dead dead dead we put the joker creamation scene in there to let the community know he is dead. Joker has more dialogue here then asylum, city, scarecrow and arkham knight combined. Dont get me wrong the joker Is AMAZING in this game dark suprising and hilarious you actually forget he is an evil bastard in this game till he turns on you. This is one of the best Joker performances ever imo but rocksteady swearing up and down jokers dead then turn him into a ghost tell us its about scarecrow and the arkham knight then have joker in your ear the entire campaign is dishonest. 9.0/10
The riddler Pretty fun great puzzzles he just unrelentlessly annoying and hasn't changed much. 4 games with this guy giving you hundreds of challenges, you solving them and him insisting your extremely stuoid at the same time. 8.5/10
Scarecrow flatout Awful i feel anyone who bought this for scarecrow deserves the shitty experience, since rocksteady clearly used Freddy Krueger as a template for scarecrow, i wouldve said inspiration or muse had they at leat had a freddy eater egg in the asylum, they had 240 other easter eggs. 1 Scarecrow uses your worst fear againt you. 2. Batman had sequences wear in the beginning he doest realize he is in a dream. 3. Thesyringes used as claws on one hand DEAD GIVE AWAY THE SMOKING GUN. 4.Then in arkham knight he has a disfigured face come shameless ripoff A nightmare on elm st. ps yes Freddy Claws actually turned into syringes in the 3rd movie when he made a recovering addict overdose. He is incredibly boring all he does is recycle the batman begins drown the city in fear gas crap, and constantly mumble darkness will cosume you blah balh blah you already lost despite you constantly sabotaging his plans. Me personally i love villians so when i have to watch a terrible performance of one, it really pisses me of. 1.5/10 Thats me being kinda generous with the score.
Harley Quinn Uh they never really nailed harley no pun intended she comes off as loud and annoying and stupid every game.4.0/10 sucks cause Harley is one of my favorites. Her plot is also outrageous.
Overall story Honestly im not trying to be super negative their were some really good shit here, The batmobile torture sequence was scary and showed how much Batman cared about Barbara 9.0/10 The Hush sidemission completley suprised me well done cameout of nowhere, there was no trackdown hush the game making you belive you were bruce wayne attacking everyone was exceptional10-10 Barbara's A great scene Made my jaw drop completely got me back into caring about the story mode, wondering how batman will tell Robin, how he broke the news to Aaron Cash And Jim Gordon HEARTBREAKING actually gave you a sense thats lives were in danger. Then they do the WORSE thing thing they could have done, turns out she's alive. Thats was the tragic higlight and you just erased the best part of the story, Who is supposed to belive the main villian spared her?? What good logical explanation is there for that? Thats were the Freddy Kruger wants to kill a defensless girl he does it. The cop in the opening scene, when it turns out he was shooting at real people, very sad8.9/10 Twoface sucks here. boo. Now more focused The other lie The story is about all the villians working together to kill the batman.....Where does this occur Twoface is robbing banks, Harley quinn is kidnapping joker wannabees, Riddler trying to prove he is smarter then you The alliance between Scarecrow and Jason todd breaks down cause they want to torture/ kill batman unrespectively. Oh theres also the killing joke refrences here. This whole game is a series of lies. sadly i was certain it would be a game of the year.
Hand to god had rocksteady just been honest promoting this game and kept barbara dead it would have been much better.

I'll admit, I'm worried about the Batmobile being an issue. I can't express how much I *HATED* Assassin's Creed Black Flag simply for forcing those damn pirate ship battles every couple missions. I don't wanna use this loud ass, army machine unless I want to. Oh well, that's my only complaint thus far. Game looks great.

Guys, I was playing the Harley Quinn's Revenge, and when I got near of The Joker Tv that is broken and with the body of him, I heard some laughs and "I will have my revenge, Bats" in the voice of Joker. Do you know something about it?? I believe that Joker will return in Batman: Arkham Knight.
