The more consumers are given options, the more demanding they become. For years before Sterling Ink came into existence, we were all stuck with the same boring colors and designs from Hobonichi and we still bought them and, hey surprise!, the world didnt end. Catherine has put more effort and transparancy and listened to what we want than other planner/notebook producers on the market.
While I agree with a lot of what you are saying and the message behind it... I never bought a TRP planner at all UNTIL Sterling Ink because exactly what you said, the Hobonichis are OOGLY. I saw that gorgeous pink SI cover and tried a TRP for the first time ever. And I do totally agree she has done amazing things. But a lot of us didn't just "still bought them" with regards to the hobonichis because oof! (I'm a planner reviewer so I finally bought some hobos for 2025, and yeah still think they are ugly lol)

I don't understand why some people are upset that all the sizes are not available in all the cover colors. What matters is the layout and the fact that she has included more sizes (B5 in particular has my heart ❤🔥). That yearly tracker she has added for this year is a game changer as different people can use it in different ways. Having a horizontal layout option instead of the vertical layout is brilliant as well. 😍🥰

There is A LOT of useful information in these videos and they very quickly get confusing since the planners can look very similar on screen. I hope people don’t give you a hard time about “this size isn’t in the color I wanted 😢😢” and understand that you aren’t a huge factory, you’re a small business, and, well, you can’t satisfy everyone, and it’s a waste of time trying. There are a thousand covers to buy, or ones you can create yourself if your perfect size is a color you don’t like. It’s okay, people!!! As a scientist, I also appreciate your use of data (this planner is a scientist’s dream, quite frankly…and a love of science, data, and organization doesn’t mean you also don’t love fun, creativity, and a space made for self-expression. I hope you know that your work is very appreciated, and your hard work and dedication will pay off! The N2 vertical is my favorite and love the neutral colors you chose. I would be happy with any color as it’s all about the function for me, so glad you created this. It’s the only planner I need and keeps me on track with work!

Please don't get rid of the N1! I use four of them along with booklets and am not a travelers notebook person. I don't like the weeks at all. You have spoiled me with the planners and can't go back to Hobonichi. I will be trying the dailies in A5 and can't wait for the B5. Also, please have a caramel or black because I can't stand pink in any form. I'm not trying to be pushy or a pain, I just love your products! I also purchase these as gifts for family and friends which are also no pink people. This video concerns me only in the fact of your surveys. I have my own business and understand what you are saying but I have had this happen to me too often and am just pleading and praying. Thank you for listening and I have the dates posted. I discovered the Common Planners last year. After many years of Hobonichi exclusively, this year I am switching to a Sterling Ink option to replace my last Hobonichi hold-out, the Weeks. Aw bummer, I was really hoping to get one of the new colors, but I'm pretty set on using the N1-V full year for 2025, after I ran out of pages in the compact on 2024. Personally I'm a huge fan of the notebooks and the fact that you offer those in gold edging as well. My style changes sometimes from week to week so being able to draw up my own layout but still have that beautiful sophisticated look is very much appreciated! I am so excited!!! This is the first planner that I’ve stuck with for almost a whole year!!! Oh yes things have constantly changed and I fell off at times because of life however I kept coming back to my common planner. Basically what I’m trying to say is that you’ve made such a brilliant product and I plan on stocking up on some undated planners and notebooks just in case you decide to retire lol I love the selection!! I’m not picky about the colors all I care about is what’s on the inside! Plus my notebook is never naked #moterm
I have used vertical weeks for three years now, similar sized to N2 V. We’re definitely a small crowd but i cannot seem to stick any other formats other than vertical. Love all your lineup btw!
Grateful that the N2Hcompact has the pink! My current planner is the pink quartz, love the texture but totally understand the waste issue. Wish the mulberry was available, but eh I'll survive.
Welp, it looks like I am going to NEED N2 and N1 options because I gotta have the new pink and purple. I was going between which size I was going to get for next year (I used one of each all year, one for my youtube channel and one for my workout planner). THANK YOU!! I am 100% a pink girlie so I really appreciate your willingness to pivot and still make a pink option available. In the future I would love the caramel/mist texture option in a pink color if that's ever possible. I love the look and feel of that texture. I understand the reasoning, but for next year’s consideration I would have bought N1 horizontal compact forest, mulberry, or beige, gold edge. Or would settle for N2 horizontal compact in any of those colors.
Unfortunately N2V is really not very popular and I really questioned whether I should continue offering it but ultimately decided to keep it for those who seek it out. For this reason I am unable to offer it in more than one color way and our past data shows us that pink is not the most purchased color compared to others.
I adored the Quartz, by far my literal favorite color ever. I feel like I must be the odd one out as I would have purchased loads of notebooks in the quartz, whereas I'm really not a fan of this new pink at all 🥺 But very happy the Mist stayed, and hoping for Mist in B6!
I loved the Quartz too, but the preorder and later sales showed that it wasn't as popular as the other sizes. and really too bad about how the material was just not suitable for what we wanted to do.

Thank you for more horizontal options this year! One note about your sales data: what you've sold shouldn't be interpreted as people don't like to buy certain sizes in different colors because you didn't offer a large enough variety and people can't buy what isn't available. I've purchased probably 20 planners and notebooks from you. Originally it was either pink or black, I'm not a pink person, so I went with black and put them in plastic covers with pretty paper. Then it was caramel, forest, or black, and I don't like caramel and forest. It's not that I don't like color, I don't like the colors you offered at the time. Which is not a dig, everyone has their own preferences and you looked at larger trends I'm sure. I happen to LOVE mist and mulberry, but this year the configurations I want the most come in black or tweed which is basically also black. Count me as voting for more mist and mulberry even though I just ordered up 2 of my 4 planners which will all be in onyx and tweed because there was no other choice.
Will the mulberry cover be available in the N2 compact? 😢 I loved the quartz and the mauve...I liked that they looked more muted. But I understand why you had to change it to the brighter pink cover.
Hey Catherine! Love the detailed videos you've been coming out with recently; they're really helping me decide on my planner for 2025. I'm between B6 slim H and N1 H. I'm trying to decide how much room I need in my weekly and how many pages I want in the back lol. All I know is my Hobonichi weeks is a little too small! Although, I do have a few questions: 1) Will these new colors be offered in notebook form? I'm just thinking that something like tweed would be fabulous for a B6 grid notebook! And 2) Will you continue to stock notebooks in the previous colors (like mist and forest)? I adore the mist color and would like to have a notebook in it; I just want to make sure, if I wait to buy, some will still be there! Thank you for all your hard work! 😁💖
Thank you so much!!! 1) We still have a lot of inventory of the notebooks so they won't be stocked in the new colors until the stock is low. 2) Some of the notebooks are in Mist and Forest, it depends on size. Again it really depends on demand. It seems like a lot of people want to see notebooks in the new colors so those might be first.
The look of the N1 vertical (and the pretty caramel colour) is so gorgeous to me, I loooove the narrow-but-tall dimensions. I keep flipping back and forth between wanting an N1 or a B6, ah why is this so hard 😅
I know you sell stickers for the monthly calendars on your website, but it seems like they’re only for undated planners. Would you consider releasing the same stickers on matte paper that would cover the existing dates? I desperately need a Sunday start for the monthly section! I know some planner companies have a “Sunday conversion” sticker kit, and I would love if y’all would consider the same!
I am afraid that the matte version would be too thick and would bulk up even more which is why we offer the Washi version which is very thin. For covering up the dates, I would suggest whiting out the words underneath and placing the sticker on top.

I’ve never ordered from Sterling Inc. I’m considering it possibly n2 full version for budgeting I use a planner and it keeps me on track but it’s huge and I want to size down thinking it would be great projects and managing the house so maybe that as well back any thoughts with that work?

I am going to be trying a common planner... Haven't decided if I'm gonna ditch the last 3 months of my hobonitchi or use a TN weekly to get me over the line to 2026... I don't know if I want an N1 or N2. Compact for sure... So hard to choose... But these look so good!!
Has anyone used and liked the vertical layout in the N1? I had my heart set on the caramel color, but a horizontal layout... so now I'm trying to decide which to get. Is the vertical as narrow/hard to write in as I think it would be?
I used the N1 vertical in caramel for the first half of the year. Loved the layout but didn’t care for the caramel color. Was hoping it would be offered in black for 2025 but it’s only in caramel😔 but I understand her rationale. Personally, I don’t find the columns too narrow or hard to write in. I typically use a Twsbi Diamond 580 in a fine or extra fine nib.
I would suggest drawing the layout in a notebook you own and testing it out. It will depend on both your handwriting and preferences. Personally it would be too small for me as I find the columns in a A5 to be almost too narrow for me. There are still three weeks until it is launched so you can have a good play about with it before then.
the vertical layout is tighter for writing then the horizontal layout but there is room. For me personally I use the vertical layout and just write across the timeline numbers but I know that isn't for everyone. Someone else suggested this already, but you can. try recreating the setup in an existing planner to test it out
Was really hoping for an N2 horizontal compact in Caramel. But from your business standpoint, it is understandable not to use colors that will have a hard time selling. Regardless I am thinking of getting the N2 full year horizontal in the mulberry color. I'll be aiming to use all the pages
Hello Catherine...I was wondering about the thickness of the FULL N1...and if it fits comfortably inside a regular traveler's notebook cover from the Travelers Company...like the camel/brown/blue or olive colours. I would love to see the fit inside...obviously, there would be room for nothing else...I also wondered what it is like to write in something so thick...maybe not so pleasant...with the big hump at the beginning or end.I like the burgundy colour but I can't tell the texture very well , nor the N2 in the pinky lilac colour...I can see it is NOT PEBBLED. I bought your July - December 2024 half year planner in A5 in the Misty Gray/Blue, just a month ago...and I LOVE the feel and flexibility of the cover, and I worry that the burgundy N1 or the Lilac N2 will feel much harder and not as squishy...any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated...oh...also...are the N2 pages cream, like the Hobo Weeks, or are they white like all the rest of your planners...I am assuming they are all white. I am loving the half year for the holding in the hand and lifting..feels so nice. I worry that the full size, with the whole year in the B6 or A5 will be too bulky as well as the full dailies in the N1 and N2 ....thanks...Janis in The Yukon, Canada.

My father owned his own business and I understand how much hard work, dedication, stress, and excitement there is in creating something that is your own, being your own boss, and YES, carefully examining the data, polling for interests and then see how sales match in order to shape the product line to suit the majority of regular customers as well as enticing new ones. It’s a LOT of work, and I thank you for it!!! I hope people don’t give you a hard time about “this size isn’t in the color I wanted 😢😢” and understand that you aren’t a huge factory, you’re a small business, and, well, you can’t satisfy everyone, and it’s a waste of time trying. There are a thousand covers to buy, or ones you can create yourself if your perfect size is a color you don’t like. It’s okay, people!!! As a scientist, I also appreciate your use of data (this planner is a scientist’s dream, quite frankly…and a love of science, data, and organization doesn’t mean you also don’t love fun, creativity, and a space made for self-expression. I hope you know that your work is very appreciated, and your hard work and dedication will pay off! Looking forward to the A5 video, and I need to go back and look at the pocket and passport one again, so I can see if that’s something that will work for me (never had a tiny little planner!)

Please don't get rid of the N1! I use four of them along with booklets and am not a travelers notebook person. I don't like the weeks at all. You have spoiled me with the planners and can't go back to Hobonichi. I will be trying the dailies in A5 and can't wait for the B5. Also, please have a caramel or black because I can't stand pink in any form. I'm not trying to be pushy or a pain, I just love your products! I also purchase these as gifts for family and friends which are also no pink people. This video concerns me only in the fact of your surveys. I have my own business and understand what you are saying but I have had this happen to me too often and am just pleading and praying. Thank you for listening and I have the dates posted. Can't wait!!!

I am so excited!!! This is the first planner that I’ve stuck with for almost a whole year!!! Oh yes things have constantly changed and I fell off at times because of life however I kept coming back to my common planner. Basically what I’m trying to say is that you’ve made such a brilliant product and I plan on stocking up on some undated planners and notebooks just in case you decide to retire lol I love the selection!! I’m not picky about the colors all I care about is what’s on the inside! Plus my notebook is never naked #moterm

I have used vertical weeks for three years now, similar sized to N2 V. We’re definitely a small crowd but i cannot seem to stick any other formats other than vertical. Love all your lineup btw!

I understand the reasoning, but for next year’s consideration I would have bought N1 horizontal compact forest, mulberry, or beige, gold edge.
Or would settle for N2 horizontal compact in any of those colors.
I can switch them up but everyone's preference is different so it's hit or miss.
I was hoping to buy a vertical n2 in a pink color this year. The pink color was the reason I tried a lot of your products last year. 😢
Unfortunately N2V is really not very popular and I really questioned whether I should continue offering it but ultimately decided to keep it for those who seek it out. For this reason I am unable to offer it in more than one color way and our past data shows us that pink is not the most purchased color compared to others.
I adored the Quartz, by far my literal favorite color ever. I feel like I must be the odd one out as I would have purchased loads of notebooks in the quartz, whereas I'm really not a fan of this new pink at all 🥺 But very happy the Mist stayed, and hoping for Mist in B6!
I loved the Quartz too, but the preorder and later sales showed that it wasn't as popular as the other sizes. and really too bad about how the material was just not suitable for what we wanted to do.

Thank you for more horizontal options this year! One note about your sales data: what you've sold shouldn't be interpreted as people don't like to buy certain sizes in different colors because you didn't offer a large enough variety and people can't buy what isn't available. I've purchased probably 20 planners and notebooks from you. Originally it was either pink or black, I'm not a pink person, so I went with black and put them in plastic covers with pretty paper. Then it was caramel, forest, or black, and I don't like caramel and forest. It's not that I don't like color, I don't like the colors you offered at the time. Which is not a dig, everyone has their own preferences and you looked at larger trends I'm sure. I happen to LOVE mist and mulberry, but this year the configurations I want the most come in black or tweed which is basically also black. Count me as voting for more mist and mulberry even though I just ordered up 2 of my 4 planners which will all be in onyx and tweed because there was no other choice.
The N2 H in fairy floss is something Im going to find a use for!!!! It’s stunning and my favorite along with the mulberry.

I loved the quartz and the mauve...I liked that they looked more muted. But I understand why you had to change it to the brighter pink cover.
She states all the colors and sizes in the video. Only mist, tweed, and fairy floss for that size/layout.
Unfortunately the mulberry is only available for N2H Full year in the N2 size.

Hey Catherine! Love the detailed videos you've been coming out with recently; they're really helping me decide on my planner for 2025. I'm between B6 slim H and N1 H. I'm trying to decide how much room I need in my weekly and how many pages I want in the back lol. All I know is my Hobonichi weeks is a little too small!
Although, I do have a few questions: 1) Will these new colors be offered in notebook form? I'm just thinking that something like tweed would be fabulous for a B6 grid notebook! And 2) Will you continue to stock notebooks in the previous colors (like mist and forest)? I adore the mist color and would like to have a notebook in it; I just want to make sure, if I wait to buy, some will still be there!

Thank you so much!!! 1) We still have a lot of inventory of the notebooks so they won't be stocked in the new colors until the stock is low. 2) Some of the notebooks are in Mist and Forest, it depends on size. Again it really depends on demand. It seems like a lot of people want to see notebooks in the new colors so those might be first.

I know you sell stickers for the monthly calendars on your website, but it seems like they’re only for undated planners. Would you consider releasing the same stickers on matte paper that would cover the existing dates? I desperately need a Sunday start for the monthly section! I know some planner companies have a “Sunday conversion” sticker kit, and I would love if y’all would consider the same!
I am afraid that the matte version would be too thick and would bulk up even more which is why we offer the Washi version which is very thin. For covering up the dates, I would suggest whiting out the words underneath and placing the sticker on top.

I've always used Hobonichi, Moterm or TN covers for A6, Weeks etc . This will be my first Common Planner purchase! ❤

I’ve never ordered from Sterling Inc. I’m considering it possibly n2 full version for budgeting I use a planner and it keeps me on track but it’s huge and I want to size down thinking it would be great projects and managing the house so maybe that as well back any thoughts with that work?

Mulberry is smooth but it's matte where as I feel forest has a bit of a shine.

Has anyone used and liked the vertical layout in the N1? I had my heart set on the caramel color, but a horizontal layout... so now I'm trying to decide which to get. Is the vertical as narrow/hard to write in as I think it would be?
I used the N1 vertical in caramel for the first half of the year. Loved the layout but didn’t care for the caramel color. Was hoping it would be offered in black for 2025 but it’s only in caramel😔 but I understand her rationale. Personally, I don’t find the columns too narrow or hard to write in. I typically use a Twsbi Diamond 580 in a fine or extra fine nib.
It's my absolute favorite size and layout
I would suggest drawing the layout in a notebook you own and testing it out. It will depend on both your handwriting and preferences. Personally it would be too small for me as I find the columns in a A5 to be almost too narrow for me. There are still three weeks until it is launched so you can have a good play about with it before then.
the vertical layout is tighter for writing then the horizontal layout but there is room. For me personally I use the vertical layout and just write across the timeline numbers but I know that isn't for everyone. Someone else suggested this already, but you can. try recreating the setup in an existing planner to test it out
Was really hoping for an N2 horizontal compact in Caramel. But from your business standpoint, it is understandable not to use colors that will have a hard time selling.
Regardless I am thinking of getting the N2 full year horizontal in the mulberry color. I'll be aiming to use all the pages

Hello Catherine...I was wondering about the thickness of the FULL N1...and if it fits comfortably inside a regular traveler's notebook cover from the Travelers Company...like the camel/brown/blue or olive colours. I would love to see the fit inside...obviously, there would be room for nothing else...I also wondered what it is like to write in something so thick...maybe not so pleasant...with the big hump at the beginning or end.I like the burgundy colour but I can't tell the texture very well , nor the N2 in the pinky lilac colour...I can see it is NOT PEBBLED. I bought your July - December 2024 half year planner in A5 in the Misty Gray/Blue, just a month ago...and I LOVE the feel and flexibility of the cover, and I worry that the burgundy N1 or the Lilac N2 will feel much harder and not as squishy...any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated...oh...also...are the N2 pages cream, like the Hobo Weeks, or are they white like all the rest of your planners...I am assuming they are all white. I am loving the half year for the holding in the hand and lifting..feels so nice. I worry that the full size, with the whole year in the B6 or A5 will be too bulky as well as the full dailies in the N1 and N2 ....thanks...Janis in The Yukon, Canada.
