Underscoring the importance of continuous expansion to spread economic activities and decongest the National Capital Region (NCR) or Metro Manila, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally inaugurated the new and expanded Batangas Port Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) in Batangas City on April 26, 2024.
This is the biggest, busiest and most modern passenger terminal building in all the ports managed by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) nationwide under its terminal operator, Asian Terminal Incorporated (ATI).
“This upgraded terminal building can now accommodate 8,000 passengers, which is much larger compared to its previous capacity of 2,500. This increases the Batangas Port’s annual passenger capacity from four million to 12.8 million,” President Marcos Jr. said in his keynote message after unveiling the building marker.
“It is a gateway to the nation’s dynamic capital region, a portal to agricultural powerhouses, access point to island tourism paradises, and a receiver of goods that fuel the vibrancy of our economy…It not only features customer care facilities that we have all seen but above all, it includes services that offer compassion, such as prayer rooms, all-gender restrooms, and amenities that are friendly to persons-with disabilities,” he added.
The Chief Executive lauded the PPA and ATI for this milestone accomplishment that was designed and built with the passenger’s comfort in mind, noting that it validates the status of Batangas Port not just as a provincial port but a port of national significance.
