Tifa Solo vs. "Top Secrets" [Hard]

- Rules for this challenge is no materia allowed on allies, and they must be equipped with Enfeeblement Rings. No Gotterdamerung allowed. And of course no switching characters or giving allies commands. Everything else is fair game, even summons although I chose not to use them myself. Try to beat the mission with the fastest time possible, any character is allowed.
Build: Metal Knuckles for unparalleled raw physical damage. Even with double luck ups, Metal Knuckles crit about 30% harder than Purple Pains, and nearly as frequently. Chain Bangle mainly for the materia slots and also for high balanced defenses. And lastly Fury Ring, berserk status adds about 30% more damage to attacks and is essential to meeting many of the bosses damage checks.
Materia: Fire Materia linked to Elemental on Weapon, Healing, HP Up, Luck Up x2, Steadfast Block, Parry, ATB Stagger, and Skill Master. Bahamut for Summon Materia.
Regardless of what element you slot with elemental, your attacks will do 23% (when maxed) extra damage. Fire element is chosen purely for Shiva, who is impossible to stagger without it. Healing Materia for the sustain. Double Luck Up adds to your crit chance and is a considerable DPS boost. Steadfast Block is very important, not only does it reduce the damage you take but also builds your ATB and limit while blocking. Parry is important for mobility and eliminates knockback from blocking, also steadfast block also reduces the damage you take when you parry. ATB Stagger and Skill Materia are some of the best materia in the game and essential for one cycling bosses like Shiva and Fat Choco. I chose Bahamut as my summon purely for the stats, but with this being a speedrun I found summons in general were a time loss between the very long summon animations, ATB costs, and high magic resists of the bosses. - Hry

I finally completed this yesterday, now I’m getting recommended someone doing it with ONLY TIFA. It took me hours of retrying to complete it with everyone.
Right. I was barely able to complete Top Secrets with Cloud, Aeris and Barret after like 20-25 tries (hate you Bahamut) and here is someone beating this using one character. Oof.

Set tifa as main, cloud, aerith like he does here in this video. Trust me. He beats it in like 2 minutes. Took me 04:56 minutes

I guess it is actually easier to steer one character than orchestrating the whole team. It is definitely faster to do it with three but alone you may focus on staying alive and place the attacks better.
Bit late to the party but it's easier to solo as one character than try and organise a party. That and Tifa's combo's can deal ridiculous amounts of damage in quick time makes her the go to.
My girl just dive kicked her way through the games super boss. This is some next level skill right here.
First time I saw Tifa destroying everyone I was incredibly impressed. Now its more impressive to not see her in the party at all lol.

Yeah, they feel safe only because they use ranged Characters.
I took Cloud off the list to replace Tifa.
Main reason is because of Leviathan phase 2 where she would normally be useless, or if they just choose not to equip Parry on her... streamers don't really have the time to study the game like we do lmao

magic,, when enemy staggered, switch character on tifa, spam true strike
You can kill leviathan less than 4 minutes, easy

Avalanche has guns... Tifa can do just as much damage with her fists and kicks. Maybe don't mess with her.

This is soooo satisfying. I could watch this all day. I hear that Tifa sucks, and yet I've see videos where she can solo hard bosses on hard mode. You totally know how to use her and you make it look easy. Thumps up!!
Whaaat? Tifas the damage queen, and the only one who can increase your damage multiplier in staggered phase... Pretty much the definition of glass cannon.
I'm not as good as the guy in the vid but cloud and barret seem like the weaker ones to me. Aerith is stupid strong in magic and Tifa has the best physical damage, her parry makes her skillful as you can dodge nearly anything, and Dat multiplier
They did each character amazingly well, but I feel extra attention went to tide (thank god if true) because she is just so fun and satisfying once you start doing the combo chains.

By watching this video, I finally completed this mission. Controlling Tifa only is much easier than with 3 person.
Yeah... Cloud supposed to be a Jenova-Level Soldier but he doesn't rack damages as much as Tifa does.
She also very fast in dodging attack.

The virtual arena itself could have been so badass. The opportunities are endless, but they gave us this blue cyber space thing.
This is how I roll. Love Tifa. It's interesting this person fights most of the battles in Tifa's Chi Level 1 without increasing it until later. Seems like they do this because "whirling uppercut" is a key part of their combos and building pressure. I wonder if they knew you can still do it at the higher chi levels as well but you have to hold square to execute(plus it takes a little longer to execute in my opinion). Amazing playthrough! Freaking owned those summons.

I don't know why I assumed the berserk accessory would only give you berserk for the first couple min of the fight, so I never used it. And metal knuckles outdamages the purple pain even if you have 2 luck up materia? I guess purple pain is better suited for healing and magic based attacks then. I'll take note of these things when I want to do a solo playthrough. Awesome video.

So Pride & Joy Prototype is basically going to end up being Proud Clod, which Heidegger and Scarlet pilot during the return to Midgar? It looks like the same shape, just smaller and in VR. Wouldn't surprise me if they have Chadley make the thing for Shinra.
I'm really hoping that with the advent of next generation hardware that they can make Proud Clod and the Weapons massive.

Awesome! I been working on this too, my movement and parry timings need improvement though. I just wish they tuned the game rewards/pickups for hard mode differently though. Dunno why all these chests with items are around and the sim rewards are items when you can't use them lol.
@Bjorn Ironsides I'm aware...but that's not a justified reason. I'm just saying I think it's pointless. Why would you go back to normal after a hard playthrough? Only reason to replay the game after hard anyway is to dig into story hints and in that case I just played my third time on easy so I can just focus on watching the story.

Awesome work. I'm still trying to get past this mission and its starting to really frustrate me, then I pop in and see people doing it solo lol.
The key is really to stick close to Shiva - her projectiles will do quite a number on you if you try to keep away from her.
@@AoDAzrael Shiva hasn't really been the problem. I can consistently get to Leviathan, but then get absolutely wrecked. But today is the day I sit down and try this strat out (watching the vid now to refresh my memory, then off to the ps4)
If you fail in Levi or Bahamut, do you start from there or go back from Shiva again?
@@Fool-arxana You go all the way back to Shiva which is where I am at. Every time I go against Levi, he does a burst attack and dives under the level to move positions before I can pressure him. Not sure what the hell I'm doing wrong lol
@@Fool-arxana You're just fighting the summons in the VR missions from Chadley right? You just start from the summon you selected. I honestly had a bit more trouble with Leviathan than Bahamut because my materia weren't as leveled yet and also because I didn't have as good an understanding of the combat system at that time.

Dang tifa tanks damage well. Not sure if also there was good RNG in this run? can the bosses become more or less violent on different runs or their aggressiveness/ patterns usually the same?
Eric Savala the fights are mostly consistent but there is a little bit of RNG involved. Believe it or not Fat Chocobo is one of the most RNG, if the first add is a Bomb instead of a Tonberry it can really screw up the fight. Ifrits behavior can also vary a bit. Sometimes when he first spawns he just hangs around waiting for you to come to him and other times he charges immediately. And in this run having Pride and Joy sit in his own lava pools was super bad RNG, I think his AI broke at the end to be honest lol.

very impressive... i believe it takes alot of practise and tries to memorize boss moves and mechanics. You didn't even use deadly dodge, focus strike and overpower at all, guess i'm not not playing her right. Uppercut + diving kick ftw.
Overpower should only be used to interrupt casting abilities by shoving enemies, which doesn't really work on these bosses

El Bottoo Tifa is a beast. Once I got used to her combos, I don’t want to use anyone else. I pretty much use her exclusively now whenever she's available.
@El Bottoo Tifa has the highest DPS potential of all characters actually. Its just that she is harder to master since her gameplan is not as straight forward as the others and you dont have a clear direction on what moves you should be using. Since for example, this guy here is doing max DPS using divekick, but I have seen guys using chi trap or starshower to do ridiculous damage as their primary skill.
As opposed to all the Cloud videos which are just counter and punish stance rince and repeat, all Aeriths are magic and all Barrets are ranged style (theres some videos of Melee Barret but its not optimal).
But Tifa can reward you with better timings if you are willing to put up the brains, not to mention she is fun af.
@El Bottoo You are throwing a lot of assumptions and generalities as if they were gospel when they are not. You assume almost no one masters the game, you assume everyone just wants to get the limit break artifact and call it a day, you assume everyone wants it easy and wants to do everything as easy as possible, whats even the point in playing hard mode then?. This is how YOU play the game. But in reality, everyone does their thing, and a lot of players actually like to master the game and keep playing getting all they can out of it.
And btw, your definition of tier list is not accurate, while ease of use is part of the ecuation, other things come into play. Potential on paper its worthless and doesnt come into play, which is what Tifa would be if all of her potential was really hard to exploit, but its not, its actually quite easy, its just not a dead give away like the other chars, so her potential its actually practical, in this case chars like her cant be low tier with potential like that, it doesnt require insane execution or knowing enemy patters, just some build knowledge and combo routes and you are good to go wreck havoc. Also, are we really talking tiers in a single player RPG game that only has 4 playable characters? come on now.
Its only about who executes the roles better, and with optimal builds it goes like this: Tifa is the best close-range DPS.
Aerith is the best ranged DPS.
Barret is the best tank.
Cloud is balanced while being a close second to Tifa's close range.
Simple as that, no need to get into tiers for this game.

Konrad Olszówka I would say it’s worth it to max them out. All of the bosses have very strict dps checks to beat them before they use their ultimate, or in fat chocobos case before you get overrun with adds, and even with maxed materia and perfect execution it still comes down to the wire.
Tifa’s the best character in the whole game and I cannot wait to team her up with Yuffie! The combos and possibilities are endless!!!

Awesome run, just kinda think that using your elemental Fire on armor would make the toughest parts of the fight much smoother and faster. Any reason you decided on putting it on weapon instead?

For the rest of us mere mortals. Putting it on armor saves us from ifrit cockblocking our bahamut combos. Also helps with pride and joy, but that fight was pretty easy anyway

So those little slides are enabled by Parry Materia? What's the condition that allows you to do them? Do you have to be responding to enemy input, or are you allowed to just do them on command? I'd like to be this good some day, but in the meantime I'm okay with just making minor changes to make my cleverly-balanced one-on-one solo shows more entertaining. ;D
Pensive Scarlet parry materia gives you an extra command, pressing r1+circle makes you do quick little dodges. What’s great is that in addition to the speedier and more responsive dodges, you are also considered blocking during those animations (while doing a tiny bit of contact damage yourself). So it actually pairs with Steadfast blocking really well, as it will reduce the damage you take if you parry an attack, and increases the ATB you generate. The downside however is that you can’t use deadly dodge after a parry, only regular dodges.

Is phys damage best even with elemental mat?
Brandon Roberge in this particular mission physical damage is more effective due to most of the bosses having greater resistances to magic. Metal Knuckles have other really important boosts too alongside high attack power like 10% bonus damage from behind.

VonZuben thanks! The barrier came from a random carbuncle right at the end, they will cast Ruby Light (barrier) on your party whenever they spawn but they are rare.
So that's why there's an accessory that debuff you into a Toad.

elemental+fire on your armor would've started auto-healing you once ifrit came in to play, as well as with Pride & Joy
