As an events promoter, my main advise for people trying to break into the scene is to get out of the bedroom and network/attend events on a regular. Meet people, introduce yourself, interact with the events content on social media etc. People buy people. I get countless messages from people asking to get invovled but it means a lot when they come down and support what you do. Of course talent will always shine through, but it's getting people to actually dig you on a personal level so they want to work with you as we're all in this to have fun.

I love the crowds reaction when I share a unknown track and they dig it. When you got people shazaming/soundhounding you know you are doing something right. If you gonna be the same dj as last night playing the same playlist from 3 months ago, we already have enough of that.

I spend countless hours trying to find new music I can introduce into my sets. I am not the most technically talented DJ. But People notice it. Owners, promoters, etc. I have other dj’s coming and taking photos of my laptop. Some DJ’s are just lazy. Those involved do it because we love music. The effort and work you put into your set is noticed by those decision makers. You have to offer something different.
Hello, I thought I give everyone my small inside how I became a club DJ 6 months ago. Last year January I started to DJ, mainly Drum & Bass and K-Pop. I visited K-Pop Parties here in Germany and one day like 4-5 days before an event I wrote the event organizer on instagram. I said: "Hey I'm a bedroom DJ and I just wanted to mix like 4-5 songs on your next event, just to get the feeling how it is. I'm a regular visitor and I like your parties a lot" and I attached a video from CZcams where I mixed 45 minutes of K-Pop songs. The organizer wrote back 4 hours or so and said: "Well you transitions are pretty solid, how about you do the warmup". I instantly wrote: "Yes, of course. That would be incredible!" Well, I did the warmup with a completely new controller, but didn't make any big mistakes. The organizer came to me and said: "I want you next time for the warmup too!". I can tell you guys, that was an amazing feeling! Anyways, 3 weeks later he asked for my number and gave me call. He asked if I want to become the Resident DJ of them, besides the DJs they book here and there. I was like: "That would be like... I don't know what to say. Yes!" Fast forward to now: I'm a Resident DJ for K-Pop organizer here in Germany and play most of the times, not just the warmup. It's incredible. I love it. Long story short: Put your work and skills out there, put yourself on the table, be open and initiativ and you'll find people who appreciate that and book you.
Just some tips for new djs like my self! Ive been spinning for 6 months and Ive just landed my first main stage gig at a hot LA venue next week 🙏🏼 Building a community and being humble and not arrogant will take u farther than your dj skills 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I've been DJing since 2017 and the one thing I learned quickly is how fast local DJs and those you know you can turn on you. What I did was simple. I stopped trying to support or go out of my way to get gigs where I live and focus more on 2 things. Play more via Live Stream and play outside of the state you are in. The key is to use social media. With the right contacts, you can play outside your state or country. Yes, It will take time but you won't have to spend any money buying courses that may or may not work. No shade with Crosfrader on any DJ-related course. I simply don't believe it is the answer and nowadays, there are not enough clubs and venues for DJs. Most of the major cities in the US want either established DJs or well-known DJs or they want their friends who are DJs to play. If you are not part of those factors, your chances of playing outside your bedroom are slim to none.
tbh i think my biggest set back is likely being that i live in what most people would consider "a small town" (we're a city, i swear 🥺) but its incredibly difficult to make ANY connections, its just a couple freelance wedding dj's around here that have full time jobs too 😓
This is how you become a Club DJ for real 1) Bank loan to purchase your own venue with sound system & staff. 2) DJ & promote your events yourself. 3) Keep doing number 1 & 2.
Some truth there. You can't be cut out of the DJ lineup if you own the venue. Lonnie Fisher in Baltimore did this with Sonar ... Legendary club which he played time and again.

And the sad part is I’m way better than when I started too. But not many are witnessing it. Any ideas?
We have a whole course on it if you want structured learning. But getting honest with yourself and asking 1. Is my content good enough (compare to other DJs in your genre)? And 2. Am i consistent enough (do I post every day?)
Do you have to learn the system that the club has or will they allow you to plug in yours? For example I'm a Traktor DJ.. But most of the clubs I go to are Serato.
Club equipment usually feels kinda scary for beginners but I recommend to find a way to play on it. Maybe you can have a soundcheck session before, rent this kind of equipment or even upgrade yours. It is always good to show professional skill as far as possible so the bookers get the best impression 🫶

Each venue is different. Most smaller venues will allow you to play in your own equipment! But just speak to them before the gig
