- Just sharing a little pratical knowledge and experience on how to remove a soft spike from a Footjoy golf shoe. This video shows you a very simple technique on how to remove a worn out or damaged soft spike that cannot be removed using a standard spike removal tool. No drilling is necessary. All that is needed is a pair of wire snips.
Thanks so much for posting! I used the wire cutter pliers and removed all 14 spikes in about 5 minutes. The key, like you said, is to get completely under the spike. They popped right off with just a slight twist. Spike tool is great for putting on new ones, but it sucks taking them off. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for sharing this tip! The guy in the Pro shop tried every tool he had for the various shoes they sell but none of them worked. This tip worked. I had a bit of a fight though but I found that prising the edges up a bit with a screwdriver first made it easier to get a grip of it with the wire nippers. I need a day or so for my hand to recover from pushing the nippers in far enough to get a grip
I'm glad it worked for you!
I guess I’ve just been lucky but I have never had to go to that extent to remove any spikes. Of course ideally you don’t leave them in so long that they become difficult to remove. But I just changed out the spikes on a pair of Foot Joys where they were worn completely down to the sole of the shoe, but still was able to remove them with the spike wrench. I did have to clean the dirt out of the holes, but otherwise they were pretty easy to remove. Another video I watched suggested using a drill with a drill bit the same size as the holes.
I ended up drilling a little bit (very carefully) into the spike holes and that removed them no problem for me.
I wish I saw this video first, alot easier!!!
Worked like a charm! Thx
Worked for me! Thanks!
Nice one, actually a method which works. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Thank you for your video. I was hurting my wrist trying to do it the normal way on my old spikes.
You're welcome!
Thanks good job!
Thanks man, worked just like you said.
Glad I could help
Works great!
Thank you brother, helped me out
Glad it worked for you!
Thanks man, I had one really stuck. No rubber left. Dug that into the plastic base and it popped right out.
Glad to hear that worked for you!
I had the same problem but with q-lock. I use the drill to drill a hole in the middle to use as leverage to fit in a tiny screw driver. Was hard to remove them.
Thanks for the tip!
No problem!
Dude you just saved my life
I'm glad. Golf spikes are definitely not worth dying for!
thankyou
My problem is trying to put new ones back in with little success
Bravo
You're very first choice was the best you just need a bigger one it didn't take me two minutes to turn the spikes out of my shoes
My problem is that the Fast Twist recesses are all loose between the interlayers of the sole of the shoes. You have difficulty removing the cleats because the housings rotate with the cleat. Similar when you you screw them back in.
I've tried an adhesive called Stormsure which is great for most shoe repairs where flexibility and waterproofness needs to be maintained but it doesn't work with torsion. I dribbled the glue around the edges of the Fast Twist housings and let it cure. When I tried to screw the cleats back, even only starting them by hand and a quarter turn to secure, the adhesive failed.
I'm looking for a Plan B.
If anyone can come up with anything I'd be interested.
I'm having this same issue with 3 of my cleats. The clear receptacle is spinning in the shoe. Were you able to figure out a fix to make it stay and not spin? I have one other issue. My first cleat was stuck so I used a screwdriver to try and separate but accidentally removed the entire receptacle. Now I can't put it back into the shoe sole. It's almost like trying to put a tire on a wheel
Great, worked for me, thanks
Glad it helped
Horshoe pullers or nippers no problem
I used a screwdriver
Easiest way is to pour boiling water on the spike before trying to remove. Much easier!
