A Day of Good Off Roading and Bad Decisions

- I was excited to get out of the shop and go wheeling with my buddy Jesse in Mom's Spaghetti... The day sort of started off on the wrong foot. I got a speeding ticket almost immediately! Then we met up with a group of guys I didn't know and we went on some trails, which ended up tying into some trails that are for tracked vehicles only right now.. Lame, next we bailed on the group and headed to Mawdco to show Jesse around and see what West was up to.. That ended up in his rock garden where I proceeded to smash the whole underside of my truck up while also forgetting to turn my microphone on..... Oh well! It was still a pretty good day even if it was filled with bad decisions.

"the little 37 inch tires" 🤣 cracks me up as I look at my 35s. 🤣
… snow wheeling guys usually go big
Don't feel bad, as I look at my 33's 🤣
Me here with my 34's
As I look at my 29’s… lol
37s are small. Everyone is up to 42s and sticky. Even pre runners are running 40s
"Unnecessary use of rear steer...10 point deduction: That guy..."😂😂😂
Maybe if I built a rear steer vehicle I would understand its greatness
@@thedirtheadshed Rear steer Mustang II?
I miss dirt everyday but I'll take this😊
I miss it too! Trying to recreate some of that fun. But it’s a challenge with zero budget
@thedirtheadshed you are doing great keep it up. Hopefully some sponsors will find you.
Dirthead Dave! You are by far my favorite. You have a very good way of explaining things without making the rest of us look like idiots.
I appreciate that!
The snow looked like a blast. When you have friends that build their own rock gardens, you know you’ve got good friends!
That is true. He’s dedicated
I don't think that I have seen even a handful of obstacles that you wouldn't tackle. Your persistence and excellent driving abilities have taken you through a lot
I knew that rock garden was gonna be bad… Lucky I didn’t break an axle or something
Surely there's a lawyer's CZcams channel that can benefit from the exposure of helping a Dirthead give the bird to those speeding tickets!
Maybe next time. I paid it already. Thanks for looking out though!
I didn't mind the narration over the missing audio, it's reminiscent of the "Adventures with Bill" segment of the Red Green Show.
I was stoked I was able to salvage it! Thanks
Any day of wheelin is a great day!! Nice rock crawlin Dave! 👍🏼👍🏼
True that. Thanks!
Really enjoy watching your videos. You always make sure to give us shots if the surrounding scenery. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching. Filming that stuff is fun
Calling those tires "just all terrains" is a huge disservice.
They are pretty rad all terrains.
Dave, another awesome video. Love how you just roll with the obstacles whether it’s rocks, fab work or audio. You make it look fun and easy
Thanks! I was so frustrated when I lost that audio!! It was a rough day all around
This is why I love the spydr 9s front and rear… way more clearance
Spidertrax makes some really nice products
Best video of mom’s spaghetti! Watching it in the rocks was awesome! We all ride the struggle bus in the rocks, always bitting off more than we can chew.
I got schooled out there
I'd watch anything of yours. Take care of yourself and dont worry about reaching peaks. Those who care are here. All good bud! We love you!!!
I appreciate the support!
That’s the exact reason I don’t snow wheel, I’m always concerned about ending up on a trail that’s closed to wheels in the winter, so I just stay off all the trails from nov until may and let the snowmobiles have their run
Yeah. I need to just do a little more research before heading out
@@thedirtheadshed it’s hard to find the answers sometimes, as far as I know all the trails local to me ( Ontario Canada ) are closed to wheels in the winter, but I see posts all winter long of people winter wheeling, a lot of them I wheel with in the summer. I personally just don’t want to take the chance but if the info could be more easily found I think it could make things better for all parties, we wouldn’t get in the way of the snowmobiles while at the same time having places we know we are allowed to be
If only you had mentioned how cold and breezy it was inside the truck as well as the noises and maxing out the speed, I'd swear you were in a series Land Rover. Ah the good ol' days. Wheeling on 33 9.5s. Any day on a trail is a good day. Thanks for sharing.
That is so true. We don’t all need such gnarly wheelers
I get extremely #&^@ing annoyed when I get ticketed. Sorry you got a ticket. Thanks for the great how-to help.
It’s so frustrating. I know better. Just need to take my time, with everything
So crazy to think that 37's are small now days. When I was a kid my father had 35's on an s10 and he was the big tire guy
It’s crazy how that works
AWESOMENESS DAVE! Loved the Video! Driving your BIG WHEELER to the trail > than tow rigs… 💪💪💪 Your Easily 1 of the most good natured guys I’ve ever watched either this stuff. FULL OF BIG WHEELER KNOW HOW yet you come off as so Humble. There’s not many out there that has the talent that you have 😎
Thanks Cole!! We need to meet up one of these days
@@thedirtheadshedI’d REALLY like that💪💪💪
Can confirm Jesse’s driver mod in the snow
He knows what he’s doing
Sorry about the ticket man, pretty frustrating; and the darndest thing as those Bull-Nosers never look to be going that fast! Used to ride up and over Mt. Spokane on my 650 Thumper to Blanchard and man, the five-O loved following me around Spirit. Put a peg clean through my ankle between achilles and bone, was looking down at my destroyed boot and they gave me an inattentive operator. 190 cabbage leafs, and a scoot over to Kootenei for suturing games! Wish you a short memory, I guess: Take er' Easy!
You’ve been all over these hills
@@thedirtheadshed Yeah, love Faruget State in the fall!
🦅🇺🇸💪😎👍 that old Ford sure does good
It does! It’s a good rig
@dave, pro tip...never just pay a moving violation. Save your money on a lawyer and save yourself from points in your driving record.
Both ways cost money, but one way saves your insurance and record.
I tried that, but I have a cdl and fighting it doesn’t work
Well then there is that.
That's rough 😢
Love the variety of content you post. Great mix of tech, cars, trucks, and adventures.
Glad you enjoy it!
lets see another video in that rock garden! id love to hear the audio of him coaching you through it
I’ll get back up there. Probably with the YJ or Mazda
Looks like east coast rock gardens. Just add a little mud to spice it up😅
There is some gnarly rock back there!
This is the type of snow wheeling I dream of, open forest trails. Best we can do near SD is Big Bear and it’s more of a gridlock during rush hour when it snows up there. Anyway, another great vid Dave, I look forward to them every Friday.
I’d like to get out another time or two before it’s all melted off
Wow is all I can say about that rock garden. 👀
It’s legit
I like that ramp truck!!
It’s so cool in person
Every vehicle has it's limitations. Glad you know when you're approaching yours. That snow crew sure gave you a stink eye for tagging along their mild fire road run lol
I’ve always been the outsider
Dave on mini vacation. Great job.
Quick getaway! Thanks
Dude!!! Great video!!! The short bed!!! Is doing the job!!! I was kind of liking the play-by-play!!!✌️
I felt like such a dummy when i realized that I didn’t get any audio!! Glad I was able to save it sorta
that is a awesome truck.
Thanks! I enjoy it
What’s up Dave ? ❤ always bumped to see video drop! Looks like my get my dreams rolling hopefully get a shop but this spring!! You and Fred always been big inspiration for! 😊
Right on! Having a nice place to work is amazing
Good stuff
Thank you
@@thedirtheadshed keep up the good work!!
Love that truck. I can't believe you got a speeding ticket in that truck, of all vehicles you own, the slowest one probably. Get that Jeep going again, and hit that rock pile
I think the yj would do ok, but it’s kinda low. Would still get a bellied out in there
Just added the little 37 inch tires to my Gladiator and hoping to have as much fun as you did. I always look forward to your latest video. Please keep them coming. Thanks again
Right on! Get out there and enjoy it this weekend
Awesome, I would have liked to be there looks like a good time
C’mon up
oh I DID see you then up in Blanchard! so cool!
Yep. 👍
Loved your old tire size and rim setup! I have the same tires…they’re sweet
It’s had some good combos on it!
BTW Dave - West’s place is awesome! It’s acres of barns, mud, rock gardens with logs and probably a hidden still!! It’s “Man Land”….
Yep. A little slice of heaven
I used to work with Jesse out in North Dakota back in the day, he says about as much in this video as I ever heard him say out in nodak lol I really love that truck though. So dang cool
Hahah. He is a man of few words
Just noticed the Andre sticker. I have one on the wall in my garage. Classic 👍
Obey
@@thedirtheadshed Lol
Mistakes were made and over come😂 god stuff keep it up
Thanks! Don’t let em get you down
Thanks Dave, snow wheeling seems like such a waste of time but then I've never been so what do I know?! Awesome rock garden crawl through.
Snow wheeling is fun when it’s deep and challenging
What you lack in tire height you make up for in skill and personality. Its super cool to see the ford out wheeling. To bad the road pirate got ya. They can be rough.
It’s frustrating just thinking about it
The narration during the rock garden part reminded me of the Red Green show
Hahaha. I’m just glad I was able to make something out of it
I kind of like the commentary to be honest, although a mix of the two would be great. Hopefully you xan get back out for some snow wheeling soon!
Thanks for the feedback
The outlaw dirthead Dave
I’m a rebel Dottie, a loaner…
I’m from Michigan where horses and speed are king in the mud or sand.
To me rock crawling is boring. But I kinda like watching others do it.
We have mud here too. I try to avoid it!
That Tacoma is rad!
Cheap Dave needs a Toyota!
It is super cool! I agree, but it ain’t gonna happen
@@thedirtheadshed even if it’s the old rav you and Fred built? Loved you guys on DED.
Oh man. My old Rad4! That is actually getting a bunch of new work done to it in Colorado. High Country 4x4 did a great job on it
@@thedirtheadshed hell yeah my home state! Didn’t you guys do an episode outside of glenwood springs? That’s where I grew up. Prime wheeling between gypsum and glenwood.
That sucks on the ticket. It's always coming into some unfamiliar town on a US highway. But glad you got out into some trails.
Yeah. My boneheaded move
We have had snowmobilers tell us trails are closed and even shut gates. We will show them forest service map showing the dates, and no forest service updates saying otherwise. So don't put too much faith in them if there's snow they want to chase off tire rigs.
I’m learning that as well
Time for a cool flatbed build for the Ford. I love a well built flatbed…something similar to the old yellow All pro off road Toyota
A nice trail bed…. They are cool when done right.
I would've hooked ya and booked ya then impounded Mom's Spaghetti!!! Slow down turbo!!! jk. Must've been a 15 mph zone. I'm surprised that Ford can go over 25mph!!! hahaha
I deserve it. I’m a menace to society
Mom's spaghetti for the win! That might be the best looking rig you own. I would love to know what the process was for cutting the fenders to have the perfect gap over those 37's. Keep the dirt head sheds coming Dave.
Thanks! It’s a good rig. Needs a bit of attention, but has good style
Reminds me of the DED episode with the Jeep on tons. “Parking brake?” “I heard it click.”
Tiny little subterfuge. 😂
Transmission heading south?
The trans is not happy…. I need to work on it , but Louis Viten is taking up the lift space
Tire envy!
I was having some
Raddest dude around
You must be talking about someone else
Those little 37s look a bit small on mom's basghetti! The air bag use on an offeoad rig is very intriguing. I wonder if it would work well on an IFS build? Thanks for the video and stay warm. 👍
It needs 40’s! Bags would work ok on IFS. But would need to go on upper a-arm most likely
"diffed out" 😂😂
Always.
Was wondering where you found dry rocks in Idaho lol. 37” tires are just too small for Dana 60s lol. Your buddies yard looks like a good place to have a bbq and some family over and just play for a day.
That would be a good weekend day!
I have a Canadian CDL and yea, we don't get away with much as soon as they see it. Love the vids though man, keep it up. Commenting to help pay for that ticket
Shit ain't right
I appreciate it!
Would you consider making a video about what someone might need or want to get started wheeling? I have race car experience but am newish to trucks and am not sure what platform to start with! My heart wants an old toyota but my wallet wants a cheap xj. Love your videos as always!
Those are both good starting points! I was going through the same struggle on my first rig. Couldn’t afford the 85 Toyota so I got an 88 Jeep Comanche. It worked well for a while.
Love Mom's Spaghetti. I managed to put larger tires on my '01 Ranger. But they're not 37's! Lol!
Hay man. I’m sure it’s still fun though
Gotta get on one of those ticket lawyer services. I have zero experience with them, but I hear Matt Farah from he smoking tire talk about them all the time
I tried last time… I don’t qualify since I have my cdl
My last speeding ticket I played the "my speedo wasn't reading right" and I went to a speedometer shop and they put a new plastic gear in trans. Then I took that to court and they dropped it.
I didn't want my WA insurance going up any more than it has already.
@@thedirtheadshed oooh shit, they don't tell you that part in the adds! Haha
Support
I appreciate it
I love Mom's Spaghetti, such a cool look on the rocks. It's too bad about the ticket. Hopefully Off The Record or something comes through and you can get it removed.
Thanks. Can’t get it removed. I have a cdl
@@thedirtheadshed oh that is terrible news. I am sorry to hear that.
I’ve also gotten my only speeding ticket in my slowest rig! 22re 4runner on 33’s going 70 lol. It can barely do 80-85 on flat ground and I managed a ticket! 😂
They are always looking for us for some reason
tickets suck. but bro know this. you are in a two way tie for first place, for my personal top 100 favorite dave chappelles list.
I appreciate that! Podium finish.
I know what you mean about tickets. It gets really serious when they’re talking about pulling your license. Not to mention the already ridiculous price of insurance going up because they can. It’s all bs!
It’s super frustrating
good days
Cherish em!
@@thedirtheadshed true dat
Mom’s spaghetti needs 42’s…
It needs 40’s
I discovered many years ago that cops usually don't give speeding tickets if you are driving under the posted speed. Weird, right!? I'm 65 and I haven't had a ticket for many, many years now. I'm not trying to rub it in because it took me almost 30years to figure it out. lol
Yeah. I know.. it’s science
@@thedirtheadshed That pesky science and physics thing.
Dang dave speedin in all these race cars
Heckin powerhouse
Unnecessary rear steer 😂
10 point deduction
On last thing! That snowy mountain road looks like the same area you and Fred stashed that old Jeep truck in the woods. And then pretended to discover it and tow it out with your custom fab’ed gladiator?
Funny story. Yes we planted it there. We went down that hill and lost control and crashed it into that fallen tree. Then when we extracted it we didn’t anticipate the wheel ripping off. That was a mess. We put that gladiator through its paces! That part was super legit
The end of this video! Haha! Go wheeling they said, go destroy your stuff, it’ll be fun they said lol
I tore it all up…. I’m a dummy
I honestly thought you has 40s on it.
I just sold a set of 37s with about 70% tread on them.
Ya, tickets suck...here in California, an average ticket it roughly $350.
That group just kinda left everyone... or it seemed like they did.
Yeah. It was a motley crew
Bummer about the ticket, the love of driving fast can bit you for sure.
I just spaced out and followed the guy in front of me through a little town with a dropped down limit
Woo!
New video!
My thoughts are if you can make it up the trail with a wheeled vehicle then its not a real snowmobile trail.
But we really need more places to wheel its kinda sad weve got all these closed trails. And they will slowly be overtaken my nature. And with the ever increasing laws and regulations, hardly any new ones are made.
We are getting closed out at a fast pace
I know its annoying, but snow chains help huge amounts climbing hills with snow.
I’m sure. Maybe someday I’ll try them
Is West part of the Ridge Runners Off-road between Spirit Lake and Athol? The place looked familiar, but I've only driven by there before.
Yes
When are we gonna see a Dave-Fred colab? The best duo...
I dunno! We will hang out at Easter Jeep Safari though
Next video you should drag that green mossy j truck out of Mawdco if they still have it!
That one will be there till you buy it
@thedirtheadshed ok, I'll let you know when I'm in Washington and you can help load it!
I miss my '88 samurai 😭
What happened to the little blue XJ from the opening scene?
Be careful with the filming by hand and driving, some states, mine (Georgia) with ticket you for operating any device and driving.
Yeah. I need to get some in cab mounts. I traded the Cherokee for that white Nissan extra cab
Hey Dave where did you get the throwback metal flake steering wheel for mom’s spaghetti? And is it a 15” wheel? I love it and want on for my 94 f250. Love your channel by the way
I bought it from a local speed shop. But Summit racing has them under the Grant lineup
Thanks man
We're in western Maryland getting snow tonight I want to go snow wheeling tomorrow looked fun & that rock garden was no joke ! Nice video dave 👍✌️
Thanks! Hope you get out and enjoy it this weekend
Dave,, when you drop a video, it's like Christmas. How do you get a ticket in Mom's with those gears and tires?
Do you think you can keep dropping vids on Fridays, so I am inspired to get in the garage Saturday morning?? lol - Just kidding brother. I appreciate any video, any time from you! It's always inspiring.
I know! The truck barely keeps up with traffic.. I just spaced out and rolled too fast through a dropped down zone
yea, but you drove there!
I did! And home
That rock pile ain't no joke
For reals
Hey Dave, how do those falken wildpeak r/t do in the snow? Just got a set for my 92 first gen cummins.
They seemed to work just fine
I would be interested in knowing if those bead grip wheels will help prevent the wheel from turning inside the tire when aired down.
I have been chasing my tail trying to figure out a wobble in the front after i aired down for snow wheeling, found out it was my wheels spinning in the tire. I have to get my wheels balanced after everytime i air down.
I have not had these ones do that yet. I have heard a bunch of people with your problem. Usually super swampers on aftermarket steel wheels
@@thedirtheadshed I'm running black rhino aluminum wheels and cooper stt pro tire. I'm trying to stay street legal, so these wheels have been on my radar.
@@DavidMoonFTL bead seal the shit out of them, might not work but it's cheap to try
What gear ratio and axles you running in moms spaghetti? I can’t remember if you ever said during the OG dirt every day build.
It has 5.38’s in it
So does anyone ever bring tire chains for doing this? Are there even chains big enough? I'm a Georgia guy spending my first winter in Colorado, the "Swiss Armada" episode got me interested in those big v8 bruisers so I have a couple of those, no locking diffs so chains have been on my mind to make the best of it and maybe one of those spicy thousand dollar lockers later on.
Chains seem to help on some packed and icy conditions. But not really in the deeper stuff
Yup.
Thanks for the comment
You put an older front end or a newer cab on that truck?
Older front end. It’s a 1991 f350
