    We took our children to Fairbanks and Chena Springs 2 weeks ago. What a pleasant coincidence to see your vlog!

      Fairbanks was magical ❄️ I hope your kids enjoyed it as much as our kids. They have so much to tell their friends at school and to write about in their assignments

    Did you like base camp better or Chena hot springs? Thank you for your video

    • @VLOGnSHARE
      @VLOGnSHARE Před 5 měsíci

      The basecamp experience with the igloo was unique but it is a bit pricey.. the price includes the activities - some for additional cost. Chena hot springs had regular hotel rooms and their hot springs are free for guests. If you don’t care for the igloo experience, the activities can booked separately (dogsledding, meeting reindeer, snowmobile,aurora,etc) either at chena or elsewhere nearby.

    This is so cool! We are thinking of going to Alaska this winter with a 3 year old and 6 year old. How many days did you stay at Chena hot springs? What kids gear would you recommend for the snow? Would love to know your itinerary!

      Thank you :D we stayed in Chena Hot Springs the first night, went to the hot spring that evening, the next morning hot spring again, the dog kennel and ice museum. we didn't do the aurora tour thinking we would have better luck at borealis basecamp. we stayed midway between chena and fairbanks the 2nd night so that it would be closer to ice fishing and north pole. 3rd night we stayed in fairbanks and just explored the city the next morning then headed to borealis basecamp for our 4th night; fed the reindeer, did dogsled and snow machine there. didn't get a lot of aurora during our stay. we were about to leave when we saw the aurora forecast with high kP so we extended our stay for 1 more night. we headed back to Chena Hot springs for the aurora tour but didn't stay there that night and just drove back right after. If there's good forecast, i recommend 2 nights consecutively in Chena Hot springs instead of driving back like us since the drive is long. we didn't have any special snow gear for the kids, just snow boots and snow pants with jacket.

      oh and also keep in mind there's only around 4 hours of daylight each day during the winter

      Thank you! I’ve read some terrible reviews about the Chena hot springs hotel rooms. Which did you stay in (moose or fox??) or would you recommend?

      @@angelcal2005 all the rooms there are pretty bad actually lol but there’s no choice. Also their cafe/restaurant sucks. The service is horrible and all the servers have attitude. But there isn’t any place to eat nearby so they know we have to eat with them. There’s a little convenience store where you book activities there. The people there are much better. They have microwave pizza and cup noodles. One more thing to be aware of is the area has rotten egg tap water. My kids wouldn’t use it so we used bottled water to brush our teeth 😅

    Hi!! Awesome video. Did you book a tour for your last night to see the northern lights? Was it hard booking for it? (It seemed like a last minute decision) And lastly, which place did you book with to see the northern lights? I’m planning a trip there in October! We were thinking of staying in borealis base camp as well, but there’s a chance of not seeing the northern lights depending on the weather.

    • @VLOGnSHARE
      @VLOGnSHARE Před 11 měsíci +3

      Hi thank you 😊 ❤️ we booked the northern lights tour with chena hot springs. They have all the activities on their website and its very easy to book. I suggest not booking this northern lights tour ahead of time. Check the Aurora forecast and plan your trip during days of higher activity.. I would say as long as you have 3 days stay during Aurora season there is a high chance you will see it. Then book the tour when you get there even the day of would be possible. We didn’t see much during base camp stay cus Aurora activity wasn’t the highest but with basecamp you have to book way ahead and its hard to predict.

    Thanks for the video! Would you please share why the toilet was lined with tin foil?

    • @VLOGnSHARE
      @VLOGnSHARE Před 11 měsíci +2

      You’re welcome ☺️ hope it helps. The toilet is a no flush toilet. Everything is wrapped and compressed in the foil. After 10 or so “flushes” the foil will need to be replaced.
