- Have you ever wondered how to clean a chandelier, or how we reach cobwebs in our towering ceilings? How about managing antique linens for 12 bedrooms or reviving the brilliance of 19th century floor tiles? After the popularity of last year's 'How to do Laundry in a Medieval Chateau', here's a video answering a few more of your questions and showing you some of the nifty little ways we manage daily life and chores in this immense, historic building.
We are Marc, Amy, Clement and Juliette, a French-English family restoring a 33 room medieval chateau and huge estate in southern France. Follow our award-winning, historically-sensitive restorations and our journey towards self-sufficiency and sustainability, with plenty of laughter along the way.

Have to say, sometimes I dream about how wonderful it would be to live in a chateau, then I watch all these videos and other diy, look around at my 75sqm apartment with my robot vacuum and our building janitor, and thinks “it’s fun to watch and visit a chateau, but they used to have 25 servants to manage the whole thing, I’m really impressed someone takes it on, and very glad they take care of those beautiful buildings”
This is fascinating, Amy! My goodness, the work simply never stops ....
Those houses were never meant to be cleaned by one person, your enthusiasm is to be admired.
Gosh, the video quality is top notch! Especially beautiful when Amy comes out carrying her red kettle. Look forward to part 2!
Well done for for showing us the cleaning episode of a chateau. Unfortunately it’s one job that you don’t get any medals for! Thank you for the sheet folding hint, brilliant.
I love your floor it doesn’t show are the dirt it’s beautiful ! A chateau would drive me crazy getting it clean. I would have to have a few maids to clean it ! 😂 What a fun video for me !! ❤
So nice to see how your day begins and continues ❤️
🐖🐓🐓🦃🐕🦺🐖🦚Yes how lovely that your piggies have the possibilities to make their beds , they Love to cover themselves and feel cozy 🛌
Great tips folding the sheets! 🥰
I have no doubt at all that living in a huge old building like your chateau or coach house means learning to accept a certain level of dust and webs. There are obviously a myriad of surfaces that all have unique cleaning requirements, so no more ‘one cleaner does it all’! After becoming familiar with those special needs to protect while cleaning, the question of time /efficiency is also critical. Toss in 2 kiddos, some animals, renovation projects, and earning a living…and there simply is no time to fret about a bit of dust. Your tenacity amazes us!
Huge amount of work and you manage family and renovations too! Very well done.
I found this really fascinating and look forward to part 2
The filming really brought us into the complexities of cleaning the chandelier. Impressive. And so much work.
Now that was a grand vlog…love the sheet tip….well done Marc’s Mum.
Work never stops at the chateau. No wonder the people in the past had a lot of servants.
I know, right? I think we need a robot servant!
@@Chroniclesofrosieres i love my Roomba! ❤😂
Your work never ends, Amy! It was so nice to see Clement and Madame Chacha. Clement is such a sweet little boy, growing big!!! 💗 So cute--"There's some more right there!" 😆
I agree with you regarding antique linen sheets; cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and incomparably comfortable feel for sleeping.
Have you heard this one?: From Dust We Came-To Dust We Return-Could Be Someone I Know-So, I Don’t Dust😂
Best Wishes & Thank You🌹
😂😂😂
So much work also you have the cutest kids
My motto pots and pans do not scream at you dust etc does wait but time spend with family is irreplaceable and missed moments do not come back as long you all are comfy in your home that counts otherwise you are latterly spinning to get everything cleaned 😊❤❤❤😊
Fascinating vlog! Many years ago, an army of servants would have maintained the chateau. This is a big job for one family!! The ceiling brush is very interesting. What a beautiful chandelier!
You will be grateful to move into the carriage house which will be more manageable.
I think you are all doing a great job!
Enjoyed the content and you had me sneezing when you were dusting the ceiling. 😂 Clement is so sweet, what lovely parents you both are, 🙂
I don't know how you do it I'm in awe personally I like that it's not spotless this is real life with kids and animals and renovations
The pace is actually quite nice - it's about chores, after all. Peaceful. Love Adonis 's work at the fireplace moment w/Mdme Chat-Chat. (His theme song, perhaps?) The chandelier music made it feel JUST like cleaning one - the travail then the beautiful accomplishment!
Absolutely enjoy your videos! Keep it up! You are such hard workers with two very busy children! Kudos to you both!
Wow that's such a pretty chandelier with the crystal and enamel flowers!
Really, there isn't anything more luxurious than linen sheets! I prowl the vintage stores here looking for them -- the hand embroidered ones are dreamy. I'll buy them with someone else's monogram, I just don't care. Yes, ironing them is a pain. But starched linen sheets and pillowcases are such a delight to sleep on. I just watch some chateau videos on the CZcams while I iron my bed linens, lol. In the winter I use two on top -- to encase my woolen blanket like a sandwich so it won't be so scratchy. When it's time to change the bed, I use the very top sheet for the mattress -- saves on laundry.
The kids are growing so fast and are getting more precious every time I see them! Love your channel!
Cheers from North Carolina USA
Love your sheet tips!
Not sure where one comment went lol but I try again I love microfiber dusters rags etc they hold on to the dust and don't blow it around clement and Juliette are precious 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
You have some of the cutest supervisors watching you clean the tiles. The tiles are beautiful. Love all the special tools for cleaning 🧹 but not a fan of spiders 🕷️ I’m sure cleaning is a never ending process. Thanks for sharing all your techniques. Hope you keep making vlogs as it’s always a pleasure watching your vlogs. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
This shows the beauty of your home and how idyllic your life is. The combination of your eco friendly rural bliss and stunning Chateau, is creating a wonderful life for you and your children. It definitely looks like it’s worth all the hard work!
Thank you so much for taking the time to scrub, clean the chandelier, feed the critters, gather the wood and tell us about the laundry. When I was a teenager, I cleaned rooms for an old Hotel in Southern Colorado, we had 'sheeting' rules as well, folding the sheet the way you showed us was also a time saver in making the bed. We also used an odd duster for cleaning the underneath the stairs and the stair well as spider eggs seemed to even be worse than the webs. It boggles my mind how you and Marc do most of the upkeep at this place when there was a time a housekeeping crew of 10 to 12 people worked at it daily. Much appreciated!!!
My mother was an antique lover and had numerous chandeliers. Cleaning was a pain and was constant, as a result I became a lover of clean contemporary furniture!
Oh Amy - you are a delight to watch and listen to.❤
So interesting to see how you tackle daily chores and such. I so can see you need to deal with most pressing things and other things that can wait or must be put on the back burner. Make you appreciate how lucky we are in the 21st century. Cheers to you all!
Amy, you do a fantastic job!! It can't be easy keeping everything tidy plus watch two children.🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😊
This was really interesting! Thank you so much,,,yes,,where are the maids at anyways!😊
I grew up as farm kid, and raised my children the same. Your videos bring back so many memories: the moring chores of feeding the animals, bringing in the wood, the dust and cob webs. Thank you for sharing.
Hard work for one single person. ! In the past these houses had a lot of servants for some reason.
Thank you! I never expected something this charming when I saw the video heading. I really enjoyed this!
Love seeing your day to day lives. Thank you for sharing. You and your family are adorable!
Your morning routine was so fun to watch! New Piggy is adorable. The kitchen is cozy :) Those tiles are gorgeous! Hard-wearing and tough, and beautiful too.
The chandelier with roses is so beautiful. I enjoyed seeing all of the chores involved in your living situation.
Wow, go Belgium for giving out chickens and solving a waste problem!👏👏👏
Really good camerawork Adonis - especially liked the variety of angles when Amy was cleaning the chandelier & music that had me envision a wonderful dance in a ballroom. Great selection of household tips Amy - especially about the ways to fold sheets. So looking forward to more time saving hints. Keep safe. Hugs & bisous 🤗😘🤗😘🤗😘🤗😘
I loved it when the chickens were let out, brilliant x.
My goodness Amy your work never stop's can not wait for part two very interesting great video 😊X💕🌼🤗
Thanks Amy; always a joy.
OMG, I love that intro every time I see it!!!!!!
Great vlog! Antique sheets are always in my suitcase after I visit France! Just so lovely to sleep in! Cheers!
This was interesting and helpful as well.Looking forward to part 2.❤️🙏
Amy you have such a great attitude regarding making your children and enjoying your lifestyle the priority - after all the housework will always be there. It’s great to involve them too - even as supervisors! 😂
I just love the bedroom with the painted panels. So dreamy.
Thanks for the sheet folding tip! Maybe I won’t hate it as much now😉
Amy……there’s no shame in having some dust. It’s life. Years ago my mom bought me a small hand made wood plaque from a craft fair that says…..”This House is Protected by Killer Dust Balls”. 😂😂😂 It was in our small condo for many years and now us in the garage of our townhome. It was a running joke between us because I hate dusting! 😫 What a great little helper Clement is!!! Definitely start the kids early in helping cleaning…it’s life skills. Love your tips and would love to see another video on it. 😉👍🏻🍷💙🙏
Only problem is if you have any asthma etc you have to keep a place spotless.
I also had a cat who only watched the mice---maddening! but a few amazing photographs. Thank you for a very intersting episode.Perhaps a can of anti-dust spray, now and again.
Wow! Dusting the bedroom ceiling would take me a year! The encaustic tiles are so gorgeous!
When you move to the coach house, and start the major demo in the house, maybe remove the chandeliers to keep the massive amount of dust off them?
Or bag them in refuse sacks.
Lovely tour today really enjoyed the laundry room as I love vintage sheets. I personally would love to see more of this.
It is nice for you to have a little helper. Lots of work!!
This was a nice change of pace. Lots of work daily. You really don't need a workout after all that dear Amy . I hope Madame Sascha ( excuse my spelling) feels better soon, poor guy. He looked so comfy by the fire til he was disturbed. Clement has grown so much. So nice seeing both the children. I had seen that video you spoke about, very neat they still make them as in old times. Look forward to part 2. That chndelier is beautiful by the way. Loved the roses. So appropriate for Rosieres. God bless your family.
Your hall chandelier is stunning! Thank you for a closer look.
Great! Really interesting
After many years of cleaning floors (one house with acres of Minton Tiles ) I have bought a Bissel steam mop. It even has a built in brush to clean the grout. It is so wonderfil after squeezing mops, sloshing water everywhere and the handles rusting away because I forget and leave them in the water. Greatness !
Very nice vlog Amy. Sharing what daily life is really like at the chateau. I imagine it’s quite a lot to keep up with - never ending chores, but it does seem quite idyllic as well.. Much love to you, Marc and the children
"Madame Chacha" ? Great name ! Congrats, Clément ! It is so, so funny 😂😉😂😉
This was *really* interesting - looking forward to part 2! (Also, how adorable and patient is Mme Sha-sha?!)
I enjoyed this,(retired nurse,)so many beds over the years, lovely cotton or linen bed sheets,so nice to get into
Very interesting Amy and look forward to your next hints and tips. Thank you 😊😊
I used to clean hotel rooms, what you deal with i can’t even imagine! Fun to watch!😊
Love these behind the scenes videos. Thank you for sharing!
Really like the idea about the sheets. It would make it easier to know which is top and bottom for the fitted sheets.
Oh my such a lot of work. Tx for sharing. ITs not an aspect thats always shown or like this. So nice to see the day to day stuff. and nice tip on the sheets. and I never knew pigs covered themselves.
Magical Modernist Mansion, did a show with a woman outside Barcelona making the tiles, they have some,,, I clean chandeliers with wipes.. like baby wipes.. don't have to dry after. Sparkling clean!!
Lots of work in Big Home, MY Grandmother would get a ladder and hold a little cup of amonia and water and would do each prism on every chandelier about once every year!
Why Not give a room in that Fabulous Home and get a helper or two, both benefit! Barter service, to live in your wonderful Chateau!
How about getting some of those young people who want to learn about old buildings and become helpers!
I really like the hint about how to fold the sheets, never thought about it, but it makes perfect sense. And though I don't have antique linen sheets, I do have new linen sheets and love them, no going back.
Lovely chandelier! We use a glass filled with vinegar & water. Then rinse with water in another glass… dry using air! Love the sparkle!
Thanks for the tip!
Amy, your wallpaper in the bedroom is so good. It goes so well within the wooden panels.
One very beautiful chandelier 😊
The enormity of cleaning a chateau would be daunting. Interesting and You deserve a wine break for tackling even one of the chores you showed us.
We have a log burner still in use and state of art elec rads which are pointless in the barn we live in. No double glazing, a few drafts under the doors.
While in UK rescently we purchased a new back boiler log burner from S Ireland, its been delivered but we need 5 rads which we will pick up on our next visit, that will be a game changer as its free heat in half the property which is normally cold. We purchased with no heating, with 1 electric light upstaires, and that was wired wrong. The kitchen i cant wait to just burn, and the bathrooms are now new. As is the insulation in the roof from the inside.
We reckon 5 years to finish all. I applaud you for the challenges you both have and have had delt with so far.
Love your chanel. Xx
Enjoyed. I definitely would have a cleaning lady .My last home was so large she worked 4 days a week to keep on top of it. Blessings.
We do have a cleaning lady for a few hours a week. Enough time to help with the craziness of the kitchen and family laundry!
I saw the egg- chicken- waste story. Impressed by the savings on waste.
Amy I though this was very interesting. Fun to see the behind the scene procedures that go into keeping up a chateau.
I love a good system for home efficiency! The chandelier is stunning!
Very intriguing, thank you for sharing your hard work. ❤
That was wonderful. I love the giant wardrobe with all of those beautiful antique sheets!! You are right about the fabric being lovely to sleep on. The chandelier is quite special and very beautiful and I love the cement tiles. Thank you for doing this video. 💕💕💕
Thanks for the tip on cleaning the chandelier ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Don’t I envy you haveing to clean, but I love your chateau, keep up the great work you both are doing Best Wishes from Australia 💙💗💙💕🇦🇺
I wonder if the compressed air cans you can buy to clean computer keyboards would work on the chandelier dust?
Probably! And even the air compressor. It’s just hard work to bring it indoors!
Very nice episodes. I love that you use the old linen sheets. They are my favorites but they are so difficult to launder.
Amy, watching you clean the floor made MY back hurt! You might want to consider investing in a steam cleaner - they work well for tile and porcelain floors, including cleaning the grout. It will save your health in the long run, and save you hours of time each time! Also, perhaps a tip for your linen cupboard: You could attach a measuring tape along the front of one of the shelves (or draw it on, if the shelves are not that old), to help in measuring as you put things in their various size-stacks. I have a measuring tape along my craft table for that reason...
Amy, youre doing a great job!!! I dont envy you, but I do admire you, for how hard you work. I have my little farm and animals to maintain and care for, and I'm 70 years old. The children are growing SO fast!! Thank you for sharing your lives!!! Napoleon MO USA
Loved this❤thank you, watching you and your family is always a joy❤🎉
Love this! Can’t wait for part two… PS. So jealous of your “menagerie”💕
Love to see how you tackle some of the typical chateau cleaning. Can’t wait to see part 2. 💛🌱🐣
Love going all over the chateau with you. Thank you
Excellent Amy! Thank-you ❤
Hi guys really enjoy these style videos looking forward to the next video
Missing you all!
That is sooo😂 funny about piggy's nest!
Can’t wait to see the premiere. ❤
My favourite saying is ‘you’ll never look back on your life and think ‘I wish I’d done more housework/cleaning’ 😂 I even have an Enamel sign in my house saying ‘ My house was clean last week, I’m sorry you missed it ‘ 😂😂
