I'm happy you liked the film, and I've been waiting impatiently for you to see a Thalapathy film like never before. Btw the director lokesh himself stated in an interview that he struggles to write good female characters in his films (prob another reason why it’s usually filled with men) so I’m not rlly that surprised. For the villain part I was pretty shocked how they mishandled him as the actor is a rlly good performer (after seeing his other films), the writing for him was rlly poor imo. And the lyrics for badass song I agree they are laughably bad but in a good way. I’m surprised by how well Vijay acted in the film, phenomenal performance imo. Review Jailer too 👀👀👀

  • @karanmistry7565

The 'I am scared' song was a somewhat weird choice for that scene, but the 'Badass' song is how it actually works here. Often the original language lyrics also state things directly, and so does this english portion of the song. Even Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Master' has the same type of lyrics in English songs. Also (SPOILERS! They didnt play 'Mr. Leo Das is a badass' line in the movie as they didn't want to reveal it that earlier.)

@@mrsseanchandlertalksabout4792 I just rewarched the movie in Hindi Language, and in this version, they've kept the entire song as it is in the movie including the lines that imply that this person is Leo. But when I saw the original Tamil language version, I noticed that they've intentionally muted those lines from the song during the interval scene. Which they probably did not pay attention to while making the dubbed versions.

Thanks Sean for the review! I really liked your part where you were saying "Why they portrayed the wife that way", there's obviously lots of love, it might appear weird but its more of protecting her husband. And in reality as well a couple might like their partner to be popular but being a everyday hero is different(I mean fighting with hyena/bad guys sort of hero). And about the name reveal at the end, they could have made it a little better. Like in A history of violence, the main character never says I'm Joey in the first instance he says "I should have killed you in Phily". The director did a great job however I think if Vijay had acknowledged he's Leo without saying it out loud would have been better.

The background score with song drops like 'Leo badass' is a usual staple for most leading male stars from the tamil industry. Yes, it's a cultural thing at this point.
This is done in part to hype the hero's/star's image. It's essentially catered for young male audiences to create a euphoric feeling in the theatres. At that point, it's like being at a concert, and as a 40 year old, I still enjoy it despite being overkill !! 😂😂😂

Yeah it was interesting. Indian films are a lot more direct in a way Hollywood aren’t. And they can do things with sincerity which Hollywood can only do ironically.
So at first it’s pretty surprising.
But that’s also what makes them refreshing and different.

Part of the reason why most of us aren't surprised by calling the star of the film as a badass or superstar is cuz its mostly the template for indian films from the start of commercial cinema. It's sort of a meta thing to get the audiences hyped up here. Saying he's the best, he's the badass, you better he scared of him, things like that

Leo is truly a world class movie ,with the main plot as Leo introduction, I don't know why Indian audience are giving negative reviews , it is sad to see the Indians audience taste stood down to cringe Tiktok movies like Kgf , where robotic expression is considered as an acting and mindless script with horrible music and edit. The repeat value of Lokesh Kanagaraj movie is so high than any other directors right now in India.

Even before the term 'Pan indian movie' existed. Tamil films had truly had wider reach films like roja, bombay, indian, nayak( mudhalvan), jeans, etc had appealed nationally back in pre internet era. And dont get me started how rich Tamil music and musicians are, ar rahman tamil songs captovated beyond language. Harris, ar rahman, ilayaraj are jewels on the crown of tamil music reach. Tamil films such as enthiran actually started off making big and taking our films big elsewhere.. It's recently that rajamouli films have made tollywood reach in bigger way. Appreciate him. But tamil films need to get ita due for being there first and doing things other film industry didn't do right from 80s

Thanks for your honest review.. I just loved this movie from start to end. I have nothing bad to say about this movie as it entertained me 10/10. From your review, I clearly understand that you are not aware of the Loki universe and you have not spoken about the references taken from other movies that belongs to this universe. The songs were nice and it is surely because of the cultural differences that you find it hard to digest such silly lyrics.. but for the Indian audiences (majorly), lyrics are extra ordinary esp. for the song "I'm an ordinary person and I'm scared". I thoroughly enjoyed watching these lyrics matching the scenes..And about the nagging wife, it suits our Indian audiences as well...Actually, She doesn't know what really happened but she was more concerned about the shirt she had presented him some years ago. I don't think she was portrayed very badly..Overall, I enjoyed it and Im glad that you also enjoyed it.. Keep reviewing other Tamil films.. esp. Jailer for this year.. Jailer is tooooooo good..

Sean, you've already checked out Three Idiots, which I consider to be my favorite film of all times. That's the only movie to have a genuine influence on me. But, you're missing a lot if you are yet to check out movies starring the megastar of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan, especially the ones from the 1970s.
Sholay (1975), Deewaar (1975), Trishul (1978), Zanjeer (1973), Don (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979), Chupke Chupke (1975) and Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) are must watch. You'll find his famous "angry young man" gimmick in most of them. They're more coherent in tone than the ones you've watched (Pathan, Jawan, etc) but Amar Akbar Anthony is a genre blender as well. One of the earliest genre blenders and the one that popularized genre blenders. His versatility is matched by only a few actors in the world.
