    You are the gold standard for dog ownership. He is so well behaved because you have put in exceptional effort to care for him. So many people get dogs and then don’t maintain them at all. He’s loved and it shows.

    You live in a flat and you work full time but you have proven you can still give a dog a loving and happy home. I'm glad greyhound rescue are very accommodating, if only other rescue centres could see this instead of turning perfectly good, prospective owners away.

      I agree with your comments. I am sure we would have been turned down by lots of other places. I think it is more important that the person is serious about the responsibility involved in taking care of a dog rather than the garden size.

      Thanks for your comments. Originally, I only planned on making one video of adopting Magnus, but I got a lot of positive feedback so I made a few more(now close to 100). I continued making the videos as I wanted to promote the greyhound breed as pets and show how wonderful they are. Over the years of making these I have been informed by several people that they videos helped them with their decision to adopt a greyhound. So that is always great to hear.

    I've had greyhounds, and they are indeed very gentle. Sometimes nervous, but still gentle. Surprisingly, they are true couch potatoes, as their rocket like speed is only for sprinting, not endurance. There's something very endearing about their eyes that makes them look so adorable.

    I have never seen a big dog walking so nicely on a leash! I have two dogs (Maltese and Cavalier) and my Maltese walks so gently on the leash (also because maybe she is too small to really do any pulling). It is my 22 lbs Cavalier that is the BIG puller! He seems that he does care where he's going, he just needs to get there quickly. In the future, a greyhound will be the perfect pet for me and my needs. They are silent, dont jump all over ya when you come home, lazy like me, and can get away to go sleep in their crate! My Maltese cant take her eyes off me. Even now as I type this, she is barking outside of my door to be let in even though my cat has to have his time to eat.

    • @fatalexcerpts
      @fatalexcerpts Před 4 lety

      It's just how most greyhounds are, temperamentally speaking, to be extremely calm and docile (even when walking). I think the smallest variety, Italian greyhounds, were bred down to the size of a lap dog (less than 20 lbs, often less than 15lbs) and they used some form of terrier to do it. So you can see the terrier resemblance in SOME "iggies" (as they're often called for short), and they're bit more rambunctious and difficult to train. And so the iggy may be a little more energetic and pull the leash surprisingly enough. Full sized greyhound is essentially the exact opposite in that regard, which is very endearing and positive trait for sure.
      But where the iggy and greyhound do match up is in the fact that they both love to lounge around, like real couch potatoes and be warm. An iggy will nestle themselves into a blanket on the daily. My family owned one in the 1990s and that little guy would tussle around with a blanket for a good 5-10 minutes until he was completely wrapped up in it and had created a little cocoon for himself. You had to be careful and never just plop down on a couch, especially where there was a rolled up looking blanket because he'd often be inside there sleeping. In the summer, he would lay out by the big front bay window, bathing himself in sunlight. The greyhounds and iggies also will chase small game on sight, without hesitation (like squirrels for instance), because the instinct is strong. I assume most of this applies to the whippet breed too, which is a mid-sized dog, that looks just like a greyhound but is in between a greyhound and Italian greyhound size-wise.
      Hope that info helped?! LOL. just felt like sharing too. ;)

    Fantastic....
    So nice to see a Greyhound off the lead.
    I had four, and all were off lead in the park.
    Other Greyhound owners couldn`t believe that I would let them off in public, and not wearing a muzzle.
    Also, nice to see one without the Greyhound coat. Many owners have an obsession of putting them in a coat, even in sweltering heat. I asked one why she had her dog wearing a coat in the heat, "Because she gets cold" came the reply......the poor thing was panting like a steam locomotive.
    I would never have another bread.
    Sadly, plenty are sent to the wet markets in China, and also dumped or hung in Spain after they have finished their racing days.
    Superb dogs that are 100% pure fun from the moment you get them.

    We love Magnus. We had two racing greyhounds, Mikey and Mayfly. It's so easy to love a greyhound, but they were real characters. Magnus reminds us of our second one, Mayfly, but unfortunately, they crossed the Rainbow Bridge a few years ago. We recently adopted two galgos from Spain. They're terribly abused there. We picked them up at the airport and they're so, so grateful for everything you do for them. If anyone is thinking of adopting an ex-racing greyhound or a galgo, please do it. You won't be sorry. I don’t know about other breed of dogs. But all of my greyhound friends treat this retired greyhound better than children or parents! They are just such loving “people”. Every thing we do, the dog comes first. I have friends that only go out to restaurants that serve dogs too. They sat on chairs. Eat a steak on a plate with all the veggies and sides!
      Greyhounds don’t smell, they don’t bark. They tell you when they need to go bathroom. My even knows where her treat is and tells me to get it. Better than people!

    My 2 Tricky and Holly, used to be very bouncy When I would come home. They would settle after they had thoroughly inspected all of the shopping (see Rich Skipworths Grustoms). After tere inspections and any handouts, it would be snooze time till dinners.

    You know what's the difference between our dogs' lives?
    My dog has never seen a butcher shop from the inside (where I live dogs are not allowed to enter).
    Dogs are so levely and they deserve a good life 😊

    in Australia we have the exact opposite to Scotlands weather judging by his lawn, in Australia we actually have a summer and that would be the last summer of having a back lawn if we had Magnus and his zoomies,i got a right shock at their lawn, dog owner in Australia know lawns are a thing of the past when you get dogs

    It’s great to see that you can let Magnus off the lead and without a muzzle. Have you had any problems with him chasing after small dogs or other furries?
    I used to have to muzzle my greyhound as his prey drive meant he could quickly change from a docile old softy into a killer dog.

    Hi Magnus and his owners, love your channel, thanks so much for your videos!! I've just recently started watching you and in this video I noticed you have a crate for him. Is this ok? Because I've spoken to some dog trusts etc they all say it's a no-go as the dog will be very anxious and potentially aggressive. Can you please tell me more about your experience with crates? Because I have children and it is essential that if we get a dog it can have their own calm space, especially during playdates etc. Thanks a lot!

    • @magnusgreyhound
      @magnusgreyhound  Před 3 lety +1

      Dogs trust are not quite right. We had a crate for Magnus as a den just for him. We did not lock him in the crate. The door was always left open. He loved his crate and he would retreat there if he wanted some quiet time. The dogs trust may think you are intending on locking them in the crate. I know some greyhounds do not like crates, but I know lots who love them. It is all about using them correctly and being aware how how your dog sees it. Some greyhounds can find the transition from the race life to home life quite stressful. Having something familiar like a crate can be comforting for some dogs. It was that way for Magnus. I am not a greyhound expert but I do know a few who have spent their lives working with them, so that is where I go for advice and tips. I would not make any claims or statements in the videos without getting there take on the situation. It is worth getting a used crate, that way if your dog does not like it or use it that you are not out of too much money. I would say it is worth getting since you have children. The crate should be for the Greyhound only and the dog should not be pet in there by the children until it is safe to do so. Some greyhounds such as Magnus have sleep startle (made a video about this) and should not be touched when sleeping. Having a clear space for your Greyhound avoids the risk of anything happening. We put a blanket on top of the crate to make it more den like for Magnus. Since we moved to our new home. We have stopped using the crate as we have more space for Magnus and Scout to find their own quiet space. It does mean we have dog beds in most rooms. Hope this help. Glad you like the videos.

    That is one lucky grey hound ..... people dont know how sensitive and loyal they are. A while back I was shown by a vet how to save dogs that were bitten by snakes and in my corner of the world its all about browns and king browns, and black snakes. As long as the venom was only a little .. injection of vitamins, antibotics and by mouth, black coffee to keep it all moving..and then by mouth at intervals water , as the dog will be shaking to much to drink itself... I have saved three dogs this way, one being a grey hound. I didnot give him back to the owner ( he left him for dead for three days before he gave the dog to me to save) I rang the Australian grey hound rescue association, i told them what happened, they in turn put the grey hound on the top of the adoption list.
