LYRICS
Pretty Nova, one year over
Legal age of consent
In the flower of sweet youth our
Days of heaven were spent
Giving that heaven away
Giving that heaven away
Rock 'n' Roll, and freeing your soul, and
Giving that heaven away
I'm looking 'round for that sixties sound -
Those days are gone
And all us acid dropping, world stopping, be bopping
Freaks are just hanging on
Little Nova, did you have to show the
Whole world how to rebel?
Standing there with your long brown hair
Like a cool breeze blowing through hell
Giving that heaven away
Giving that heaven away
Back in those days we all were so crazy
Giving that heaven away
Giving that heaven away
Giving that heaven away
Oooooooh
Giving that heaven away
Seems like the whole world's at a fire sale
But I might be wrong
With all the home shopping,
Bling bling and hip hopping
Maybe it's just going strong
But hey now Nova, we both know the
Ones who're always making it pay
Well any fool can sell a jewel
But an angel will give it away
Giving that heaven away
Giving that heaven away
Oooooooh I'm going go down singing
And giving that heaven away
Where did the day go in that Winnebago?
The two of us hot as a stove
Fools for pleasure, digging for treasure
Down in that Black Oak grove
Giving that heaven away
Giving that heaven away
Oooooooh
Giving that heaven away

Jackson, you've always been the best. No one comes close to you. Always surrounding yourself with the top musicians of the era. So tight. So balanced. Don't stop Jackson, unless you want to stop. Millions of fans, we see you for who you are. If a person can't display any emotion whatsoever, then it's quite simple. They aren't part of the human race. Thank you Jackson, God bless you, your fellow musicians, and your family and friends, Jackson. 👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I’m your age group, I graduated high school in 1967 and have been listening to your music my whole adult life, I’ve got most of your albums (in vinyl records & CD’s), thank you so much for filling my life with great music 🎵 . . . I’ve seen you 4 times live over the years & every concert was a good one 👍
@Angel Bulldog do you ever wonder where the time went, how fast the years have gone by, we are in our 70’s now . . lol sometimes when I look into a mirror I just can’t believe I’m in my 70’s 🙂
Graduated in '61 and Jackson has been the soundtrack of my life. Best singer/songwriter in our time!
Dave, I only saw him once. I am 76 and would see him above all others. He is truly one of the best of the best.
The first time I heard Jackson Browne was 1978 I was 17tn years old it was my brother in-laws Frunel and they played the song Stay Just a little bit longer me and my sister cried because we wish are friend was still here but I fell in love with that song and I bought that C.D there times and some how someone got it I have to get it again and Running On Empty lol your music 🎵🎶 J.B 💋
@@bernicecaletti7045 💋👍
Standing there with long brown hair, like a cool breeze blowing through hell. What a great line! I love this song...AND all the rest!!
Running On Empty was my first album at Christmas, from my older brother. To be played on my new Sound Design stereo from mom and dad that same Christmas (purchased at Sav-On drug store!) I laid on my bed with headphones and got lost in the live sound, the photo book that came with it. It gave me the fire/desire to play guitar, form a band, and get gigs for years and years. Decades. Soon after discovering the album I bought the song book, complete with lyrics and chords, for that album when I was 13 and I thought I unlocked the secret to the world when I realized I could play those chords. I still have that album, that book, and I still play. I still go to his L.A. concerts -- alone: A date or companion would simply be negleted. And a distraction really. Come on, its a religious experience for me. Although when I flew to NY for his Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction, I did bring someone. Countless gigs, sets, load-ins and outs, multiple PAs, band members and 41 guitars later, I feel that journey first began with the sound of the crowd, noodling of the guitar, the count in time, and finally that first glorious explosive chord of the first track off that album, Running On Empty. I played that song so much I acquired perfect pitch! At least for the note D. The first chord of that song. Its a treasure and a gift that something like the pandemic brought us a side/style of Jackson we may never have seen. Thank you to Jackson Browne and that incredible band.
What a great story! 👍
Thanks for sharing it, Ty. Stories of Jackson's inspirational effect always make me love and appreciate him even more 💞
Great story. I've read many stories like this regarding Jackson's inspiration. I have a similar story regarding a musical journey of my own and the girl I loved... with the art of Jackson Brown always there and part of my life. Jackson's art comforted me through tough times until I was reunited with my first love 36 years later.
Love this story.
Sweet
@@samj.6867 Today, I'm listening to Jackson Browne. I'm 65, I connected with my HS Sweetheart back in 2013,but it didn't work out. Turned out he was married. By the way he connected with me on FB. I didn't know he was married. He told me he had a girlfriend and was divorced. Long story, short...I fell in love ,he broke my heart.
Thanks for sharing “real music” with us. It’s soothes our soul. Your talent is never ending.
So true!
Amen 🙏
the most beautiful song. gorgeous accompaniment fellas.
Thank you Jackson .What a Beautiful song.
A life well lived and sung, every song nailed those demons ,peace and ❤
I love these at home sessions you were made for this time Jackson
What a profound comment!
I do Love them. I've just been listening and it's relevant that's what
has me in Awwe... I could go on but Not today. ❤ 😁
Me too gf, these were a BEAUTIFUL GIFT during a horrific time, a gift you can keep fotever.
I can't say I'm sure things are much better but I can say I feel so much mental & emotional healing from these "home sessions."
What a treat, I feel like we all probably feel~like we personally reconnected with JB & his Beautiful Soul, as well as those in his Band Fam.
We're all like a lil JB FAM THAT GOT VERY, VERY BIG & I'm SO GRATEFUL.
Because I think what I'm feeling is that thing called HOPE.
THIS is so KIND of EVERY SINGLE PERSON involved in these! 🎶❤🎶
I agree!
"Running on Empty " still makes me feel like I did when I first heard it!! 70 yrs strong! Love your music! This is a great down home song!!
Thank you Jeff, Val, and Jackson for givin that Heaven away♡
You're still killin' it, Jackson....nicely done!
Thank you Jackson, I have listened to you for just about 40 years now.
Man oh man. This is fantastic! I could listen all day ❤
Jackson thanks so much for showing how 3 real musicians can sit down in room together and make “real” and good music. No drum machines or auto tune, oh and more than just 2 chords over and over.👨🏻🦳
campfire tunes are the best way to describe this beautiful by nature spirited mans songs
Everyone knows already. You shrill "this is the only true music" fossils crack me up. 😸. I guess he has your permission to use an electric guitar? With effects? Are you sure it's "real" enough?
lol also there's definitely auto tune all over Jackson's vocal on this recording and Jeff's shirt clearly expresses his love for a musician who cut many incredible one chord tracks... Open your mind (and ears!)
@@theotheranswerOK I’m time dated I admit it and probably they did check the auto-tune box in protools but the guy can “sing” without it. As for Jeff’s shirt it doesn’t change the fact that this guy is a very gifted guitar player who wouldn’t waste his time in a musically illiterate band. Oh and guitar effects are great, they only enhance the skillful licks he plays which would sound good straight out of the amp. I realize my comments sounded judgmental and music appreciation is subjective, but I grew up in a family of musicians who did practice their craft in our living room, and yes I am a fossil musician my self, it beats the alternative.👨🏻🦳
The 70's. An era where, after a long day, you'd lie in bed and turn on the radio and hope that some your favorite songs are played. No way to stream what you you wish to hear, no vinyl or cassettes on hand. And then, an awaited song comes on and you are grateful for the gift of music that warms the heart. You only wish that it would play "just a little bit longer.." Thank you Jackson, from across the years.......
Still sounding so fine man. Thank you for your little pieces of Heaven! They sure help us cope. Peace! ✌
Happy Birthday, Jackson Browne. So very grateful for your voice in the world.
This song has a very special meaning, Jackson. You explained it at the concert in 2010, Kansas City at the Ameristar and I was there center third row. You mentioned your “Kansas City friend” and Wow, I was there. Love you and your music … always takes me back to the Troubador in 1971. Great memories.
Could you share the story? Love to hear it. Thank you!
Jackson grew up listening to you , you were my favorite . Still am. Thank you for all your songs.
We just had front row center seats to JB/ JT. Gave lots of heaven away.

The goat❤
Since the late 60s you've performed your extraordinary songs only you can write. All are fortunate for your videos from home or anywhere else you choose because a world without you and your music would be alien to me. We all are very grateful for you and the years of outstanding performances provided by the most down to earth entertainer of our times. Every weekend from the late sixties through the seventies my friends and I would attend concerts given my legends like you not realizing the historical impact at that moment in time. Amazing
'I'm gonna go down singing!' Thank you, JB.
These videos are priceless :-) Thank you!
I just love your music, voice, lyrics and talented band members. A perfect package. Such Honest music.
I agreed so much!🤗
Fantastic performance!!!! Love the work by Val Macallum and Jeff Young!!!!
Can't remember the last time anyone referred to us as freaks. Great song. Your lyrics are the best.
No one can do what he does. Outstanding.
There you go again, Jackson, giving that Heaven away! Every song lifts us up! Loved the San Diego concert and 30 A!
❣️
Jackson-- you where so beautiful as a young man -- - but those days your triple beautiful ♥️-
Food for the soul. Thank you, Jackson Browne ❤️
I’m almost 63 and from my mid-late teens onwards my musical life was dominated by Jackson Browne , Gerry Rafferty , Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac. The Pretender kicked it off and that was it 😎. JB just got even better with age !
YOU are HEAVEN on Earth Jackson! Just saw your Jones Beach show last week and you still sound so beautiful, strong & soulful! (And you don't look so bad either! 😁Still looking great!) Uplifted the audience! I wasn't the only person crying watching the show...... Love, love love your new songs too! Jackson Browne, this was another fine tune! I think your music makes everyone think. Thank you for sharing your music
That's what I 've noticed about His Songs.I find myself listening to the Words of His Songs more than some Artists. Some Songs you love just because of the Awesome Music but The Really long lasting Great Songs have Awesome Music + Meaningful Lyrics.

It's all passed under sleeps dark and silent gate. Jackson.

The Boys are Back in town, thank you. Great to see this trio.💛💫
Jackson,
I Love You Man!
Thank you Jackson for allowing us in your home and sharing! Your voice still sounding pure! Yup! Looking for a feeling...the 70's :)
I’m not one to compare but…… I think of Jackson Browne as another Tony Bennett--- in that they both have voices that I can listen to all day and sing songs that are timeless with heart and deep meaning. Here is to hoping and wishing that Jackson Browne’s singing & entertaining career has decades still ahead of him (as Tony is enjoying). It is important to note that Browne, unlike Bennett, possesses additional talents including writing many of his song’s lyrics and melodies. Cheers to your longevity Mr. Browne! FYI: the first concert I met Jackson Browne in the flesh was as a surprise guest of the Doobie Brothers back in ~1979 in New Jersey (where I trekked from my home base of Long Island). Thank you for sharing your gift of music and a part of your life with us!
I absolutely love this, Jackson! It's awesome to hear you and James performing after this past year and a half. Not that I ever stopped listening.
Right On. Great song
Thank you Jackson
Cheers Gray

Jackson Browne's Live From Home numbers are special. Vocals, sound & production are perfect, band are class. The man is a genius with words, his songs are so theraputic & melodic. He's an outstanding poet & musician. Keep it going JB. Thanks.
Your music is my heaven and I sincerely thank you for giving it away like this!!!!!!!! Keep on singing, Jackson. I will love you forever!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Rest In Peace Jeff Young
Thanks for giving back JB, I get so much out of these intimate, natural performances, and I bet I'm no orphan there.
👋👋 Bless you for another soul-soothing interlude, Jackson! Over here in Australia🇦🇺 -- as you probably know -- we're handling the pandemic a little better than the U.S., with our smaller population....but it's still very tough. I'm always SO grateful for your music, which I only discovered in 1999 at age 37! I'm lucky to have seen you perform twice in Australia, and in NYC and LA's House Of Blues. I was looking forward to seeing you at Sedona in Oct 2001...but we all remember what happened that year💔😢 A big group of us still went to Sedona -- we tried to soothe the pain with your music, and the warm camaraderie of like-minded fans gathered together in a special place🙏 It helped.
You want to go down singing 🥰 but your songs have always raised me up, high above life's difficulties, frustrations, even its banalities 🤗❤
This is a great song! I can picture it. I just love you, your band and these tunes. ❤️🎶❤️
I always felt like there’s some true, raw rock’n roll tucked way down in the center of this song just driving it. And for me, the great feel of the song comes from how that rock’n roll core seems to know that if it got out, it would diminish the song. So it just embraces its role, and creates that rock’n roll magic from where it is.
We got to see you at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville TN...and we decided there was no other name for our son ....his name is Jackson😊...We love your music!
From one old acidhead to another love you Jackson
Vous êtes juste magnifique ! De très belles compositions comme toujours. Merci Jackson ! ❤❤❤
J.B. remarkable , FUN, and once again a FINE thought. ⚘️ GREAT SONG.
Oh how I salivate and feel happiness and hope when I listen to the words great lyricists put together. And how I drool when these words are melded with great melodies and verse. JB and his friends always do this so very well. Please come and play in Europe again soon Jackson. Hundreds of thousands would love you to.
Thank you Jackson.
