Three Racing Game Franchises We Want Back

- It's a popular opinion that the racing game genre declined in the 8th generation of game consoles. There are many areas to blame - lack of new IP, franchises like Gran Turismo taking too long to appear or Need for Speed declining in quality, but one of the most obvious areas to point to is the fact that a majority of racing game franchises didn't have any titles on any 8th generation game console.
So for this video, I have brought in two friends to talk about three different racing game franchises that we'd like to see come back.

You know, as much as I’d like midnight club to be on here, I’ve already accepted that we’ll never get another one. Completely agree with the other games though, especially burnout
Acknowledged. If Midnight Club came back, I fear the greedy microtransactions would appear, knowing current day Rockstar.

@@NFSBeast2365 not the just microstransactions, but the byproduct of that which is a stale and dull multiplayer. Kinda like how all the jobs in gta online are dead and everybody just tools around in freemode. That’s probably what’ll happen in a modern midnight club. Nerf payouts and disincentivise doing jobs or doing said jobs quickly

What a lovely collab! If I had to pick one franchise it would *have* to be Driver.
I've always considered the Driver series to be the most creative racing game series out there, especially San Francisco. Which is an impressive feat considering all you do is drive cars, but the way these cars are utilized and put into all kinds of situations make every hour of playtime unique and interesting. Coupled with a perfectly balanced handling model between realism and accessibility, satisfying difficulty and absolutely fantastic maps, the Driver series really pioneered modern open world racing games. San Francisco's Shifting mechanic added a very refreshing and interesting element to a usually stagnant gaming genre.
I suppose I just miss creative risks in modern racing games, and the Driver series was never afraid to push new ideas.
motorstorm is forever GOATED, pacific rift and apocalypse are some of the most unforgettable experiences of gaming for me. So different, so crazy, so destructive and so fucking cool
TBH i think one of the car game culture that is missing is the different speedometer. I don't know you guys, but back in the day like pgr, driver or test drive series would have cars with own speedometer, when the in person driver view is not available, only either 1st person view, hood view or 3rd person view. This would make the game so much better as the feeling of driving different cars, looking at the speedometer just feel unexceptionally satisfying and special. With each cars bought, wanting to know how the next car of the speedometer look like.
PGR4 is one of my favourite games of all time. The driving model in this game is near perfect, although I much prefer it on emulator with controller settings adjusted for my liking. Each car feels unique and their behaviour is miles ahead most modern arcades and simcades when it comes to handling bumps and weight transfer (aka having reasonable wheel travel, as well as spring and damping ratios). Tracks are awesome (let not talk about cursed Nordschleiffe), especially fictional Michelin test track. Weather still makes great impression today and car list features some real gems (even though I'd prefer having more cars in lowest classes and events forcing you to use them).
I'd love to see some arcade/(good) simcade track racing game without performance customisation and fantasy features.
It was a pleasure and a nightmare to my laptop to work on this collab. Can't wait for the next projects you have planned Jake 😳

Thank you!! Finally someone said it! More cars equals less qvuality and detail! Quantity over quality, but also when Turn 10 was with Forza, they made more cars with both quantity and quality.

This is a fantastic video! I never even heard of Motorstorm until now. I take it's a playstation exclusive series? That game sounds so damn fun and I would like to play it. Improved modern graphics and frame rate, along with this amazing retro kind of gameplay styling would be so incredible.

I did, really enjoy the first game growing up as a kid.
I would like to see the return of Tokyo Xtreme franchise
same, it was so different from all the other ones.
When I saw the title of the video, my brain immediately went to what games I loved that have been dead in the water forever. Those are... Rush, Ridge Racer, and Burnout.
With Rush, that died on the Arcade, N64, and Dreamcast with Rush 2049. San Francisco Rush, Rush 2, and Rush 2049 were amazing. Those 3 games are SO Good, and it makes me sad that they're just.. absent from gaming today. Some of my favorite arcade racers, the Dreamcast version of 2049 is superior, obviously. But I only had the Nintendo consoles. Today, it would make sense to make it multiplatform, since 2049 and arcade exclusive SanFran Rush the Rock was re-released via Midway Arcade Treasures 3, and that was multiplatform. A new game in the series would be amazing, follow up, the wings in 2049 were great, having something similar would be fun, as would the option to not even have wings installed. Make the huge jumps more risky! .. And the stunt arenas, oh yes.
Ridge Racer, while it was largely only on Playstation, sure it had it's start in arcades, it was largely a Playstation series. There was Unbounded, but that didn't start off as a Ridge Racer game, it was only later turned into one. But customization like Ridge Racer 7, with a sort of story and huge selection of cars like in Type 4, would be incredible. Between teams and also street varients once you've unlocked them, that with every track so far released, as well as some new tracks, and perhaps the same with cars, since there are cars with the same name, but different eras and designs. classic all the way to modern classes of races perhaps, where you can see the older cars revitalized with modern graphics. They would also need to make this multiplatform as well, I feel like the series partially stagnated because of a lack of sales since they restricted it to only one console. I for one would not buy a console just to play one game, as I'm far more likely to buy the version I can play on the computer.

3 racing videogames i would love to see making a comeback: Midtown Madness, Twisted Metal and Smugglers Run.

I wanna see Juiced make a comeback. I really enjoyed that game.
I really want ridge racer to comeback. But I don’t think it’ll survive in a simulation and open-world dominated market. But imagine a breathtakingly beautiful 120fps game that pushes the limits on series x or PS5.

Motorstorm and need for speed underground 2 would be a sick cross over that's why my team is creating it. Maximum Velocity will have a big impact on the racing community and I just hope everyone's ready for something fresh!
It's a tough choice between MotorStorm and Burnout for me. I love the style and gameplay of MotorStorm (up until Arctic Edge at least, never liked the change of tone with Apocalypse), but I have a feeling that Burnout has a much better chance of coming back and garnering the most attention even with non-racing game fans.
PGR would be nice as well, PGR1 was one of my first few Xbox games ever. But it might be too niche for MS to even consider at this point.

The amount of car builds that you can do is limitless for examples you can make a flat 6 awd drift miata or off road one or a v10 awd dodge challanger for the streets or you can take a hypercar make it for off road and supercharge it! (because why not)
The nitrous system is balanced and its made for it to work in heat's map
Drifting in free roam is the same handling as in drift events
The backfire system is a small thing added to the game but it should be a thing in every racing game with license cars

Sadly the new generation customers dont know that the new Microsoft and EA games are bad cause they dont know what is the difference to the older titles and franchises that have been better
EA’s recent racing games are either okay or bad, but Microsoft? FM7 and FH5 have their issues but they really aren’t bad at all.

Probably this is very minor opinion, but... I want Forza Horizon franchise to be back.
I mean, I want old Forza Horizon back. Like FH2, That before current Turn 10 stuff taken over a Turn 10.
Long story short
Turn 10 today is pretty much one of the worst game company, since community manager known as Nitro (Later changed their name for avoiding consequences) taken over it's community and being an power-hungry dictator with strong taste of political-correctness.
This individual massively banned several users for accidentally trigger a glitch, complaining about unfair ban, complaining about Nitro's behavior, being a handicapped person, making a specific liveries and etc.
Things worse is, this person actually stalked some victims on outside of Forza, such as Reddit, Twitter, Discord and etc...
(You can find several proofs on CZcams and Reddit, including proof that this community manager stalked and harassed someone. Also some people should've able to verify my story as well).
I myself got perma-banned for sending a ticket about some issue, for something I've been instructed to send a ticket, after customer support promised me to compensate about that issue.
Lost 1,500+ hours worth liveries I've made. I've proven my innocence 3 times to them. but things I got was, yes. Stalked by this community manager and a severe amounts of harassment.
Genuinely loved Forza Horizon before this happened. But after knowing how corrupted Turn 10 are, completely destroyed my interests and quit their game ever since, but still want to go back. But thing is, this behavior by Turn 10 are still going on and I'm still banned, despite of I'm an innocent as crystal clear.
I know this is sounds like a joke, but this is actual story without a lie, and I'm serious. I genuinely want old Forza Horizon back, before this community manager taken over a Turn 10.
Game is supposed to be fun. I really miss Forza Horizon 2. Back then, you didn't have to care about unfair ban, you didn't have to care about exclusive cars or anything which are stressful.
I agree with plenty of this, but these issues are mostly due to Playground Games. Nitro I believe left quite a while back, so it mainly falls on PG now. Turn 10 is making the Forza Motorsport reboot.
